Hi.
I don't know if anyone comes here anymore but I figured I would ask. I recently
got the toolset. And I've been messing around with the cutscene
editor trying to make my own machinima. And I was hoping that anyone had some
advice/tips on how to make good machinima/cutscenes?
Any tips for making good machinima/cutscenes?

Also how do you preview your cutscene in game?

New to the cutscene editor you will find a collection of some useful tips in the Cutscene editor group via the index:

Regarding your question how to preview - to create a switch is probably the quickest method. More info here:

I've already looked at the Cutscene editor group (and joined).
Does anyone have suggestions on where to start from the very beginning for cutscenes? Is the wiki toolset cutscene tutorial the best starting point? I've already been scripting, but want a change of pace for a while. I don't expect to do ART - I can (probably) learn the technical side, but art is for artists

Welcome to the group
There's a handy index section in the group where you'll find a link to a Tutorials and Links discussion. You could probably begin with one of the tutorials to get a basic idea on what goes on within the CS editor.

thanks -
I had actually seen the one on the wiki; just didn't want to carefully study and follow every step.... and then find out that there was a much better tutorial for beginners :-)

Makes sense of course
Though since you mentioned the issue of art, CS design is definitely an art, and the technical side provides the means to express it. Though I consider scripting and mathematics as an art as well

I hope to get good enough that I can create some decent cutscenes. They aren't likely to be 'art', but I'll settle for 'technically correct'. I can occasionally make it to 'art' when programming/scripting. Perhaps not with the DAO toolset (maybe someday), but I 'get' programming.
