You just described my perfect woman partner. Have you been hacking into my emails, or even worse, my soul?

I agree with the OP. I felt F!Hawke's walk was too over-the-top. I also didn't like how she was animated in the inventory screen (looking at her nails and such).

I think posture and movement convey a lot of information about a character. To me, F!Hawke's running animation said "I'm fun and flirty; don't take me seriously." It didn't fit with the personality I was playing.

Incidentally, FemShep's walk didn't bother me at all. If we can get a less exaggerated female gait, that would be great, but I wouldn't oppose to just using the man's animation.

People go on about this alot, I never noticed it as an exaggerated sway until people pointed it out. Even so, I don't consider overly exaggerated but I guess they could tone it down a little. I'm all for male and female having altered movement animations, so long as it's not drastic. If they just add a very slight sway to the female walk and that's the only difference, I would be content.

There's only one thing that truly bothered me about female animations, and that was in Origins. I never walked as a femal Warden because of that damn left arm that flung right out. Why the hell did it do that?

Keep the walk, lose the run. I think the op is just looking for something to gripe about. The walk was a vast improvement over the previous games.

Yes, exactly!
IMO FemHawke was animated with a certain audience in mind...
The disconnect between her personality and her animations is what bothered me. We can make Hawke (and presumably the Inquisitor) as tough and aggressive as we want her to be yet she's still going to move around like that.<_<

This 'certain audience' must be anyone whose noticed that women on the whole DO gracefully sway when they walk and men sort of lumber about. Basically anyone whose had any sort of human interaction in the last decade or so. Is this the audience you speak of?

I'm pretty sure the #1 reason FemHawke moves the way she does is for fanservice.  If you happen to like that sort of thing, then fine. I'm not hating or bashing you.

I have to say that I like the way she stood on one hip though.

What about her idle animations? This one's sofa king nuts. Also there's one when she tries drilling holes into the ground with her toes.

I actually swap between the male and the female animations depending on what kind of Hawke I'm playing.

Not all women are graceful and not all men  "lumber about."
These are stereotypes, and what society tells us must be true. In video games, women must sway their hips exaggeratedly, they must be beautiful.
It's okay for a man to be a lumbering brute. It's okay if he is ugly. His appearance doesn't matter, his accomplishments do. I wish it could be the same for female characters.

I admit I'm surprised that you would not have noticed it if others hadn't pointed it out for you. It was really my first thought when I started my playthrough with femHawke: dafuq, why is she running in such a weird way?
Somebody here said that some women do run like that, but I honestly have never seen it before. It's simply not economic to sway your butt that much. She must be exhausted after a trek up to Sundermount.

its simple if you want your woman to run an walk like a man, go play a man an leave my "fanservice" swaying hips alone

Considering that I find walking -- and even just standing -- like she does really, really physically uncomfortable, I found watching it to be incredibly distracting in a very bad way. (Just another reason to play m!Hawke's, I guess...) I'm all right with hipswaying, I do it myself even though I don't want to, but there's less exaggerated ways to do that.

Okay, I can see where some of you are coming from... So I'll try to post without offending anyone. First I will say that yes, femHawk's strut was a little pronounced than what was necessary. However, women's hips actually sways when they walk... Just not that much. Part of it comes from biology, as women develop wider and rounder hips then males, bone, muscle, and fat, so the position of their legs is different then men as well. When they walk, it appears there is a slight sway in them. The other half comes from social learning; Society teaches women to walk a certain way to be appealing. The other half is more psychological, deriving from the personality: what is the impression that the individual wishes others to see? It explains the difference between a swaying strut and a stride.
... Anyway back to topic. I don't mind if a playable female character has a slight sway because it shows a difference between male and female movements, but it does NOT need to be overbearing. When your characters hips are bumping into both sides of the walls when walking down a hall, you know they overdid it. On the upside, at least the animation is better than femShep's. Its like the devs have never seen a person run or walk lol!

I personally prefer female characters to be "sexier" if possible so there is a wide gamut in preferences when people play.

But this thread did give me an interesting idea - if you guys played BG or NWN remember how you could pick the personality type like seductive, adventurer, evil or whatever at character creation. In those games it really only affected your battle shouts. But I think it would be cool if you could choose something like that and it affected your in game animations. Just a thought but it would settle a lot of the preference requests I am seeing here. Not sure about the level of effort for the devs to implement that.

I don't want my woman to run like a man, I want her to run like an ordinary woman, a human being. That means not that drunken swagger with disjointd hips.

This would be ideal, but expensive and time consuming for the animators. So unfortunatley, it is unlikely to happen.

Guys, he's right. Since krul2k doesn't complain, I guess we probably should stop giving constructive criticism to a game we're passionate about.
