The walking animation was okay. I get why people want to tone it down, but I was okay w/ it. However, Lady Hawke's running animation was horrid, not because it was over sexualized, but because it was horrid. She looked as if she were floating in mid air half the time. Isabella had the same issue. For me, Skyrim reached a happy medium. The female Dragonborn walked like a girl, but not overly so and the running animation was very purposeful if a bit clunky.

The really exaggerated animation were rather ridiculous to me. Some like it and i can respect that but for me the hip swinging were really exaggerated. In DA:I i hope they tone it down a notch. Doesn't need to be a copy+paste of the male but at least a tiny bit less exaggerated would be welcome

TES, atleast the last few installments, have always been pretty good about that stuff. The closest Skyrim came to anything like that was the Forsworn women, but seeing as they're basically tribals, it was justified, considering there are tribes on earth were women don't wear anything on their top-half. Sure there were some other outfits with deep V necklines, but it wasn't anything standoutish.

I actually liked everything about DA2's female walking animation except how Hawke would hold her arms stiff at her waist like she was in a Broadway revue.  Women do not run like drag queens.  We do move our hips, but we also move our arms more or less the same way men do.

It was worlds away better from the "I am a man who inexplicably has breasts" animations from Origins, though.  Bleh.

Looking at Square Enix games and the female protagonists might help a lot with developing an animation for a female characters walk. Lightning's walk could be incorporated into the female walk in Dragon Age games :).

I disliked how armour looked on walking female Hawke. Metal bending and whatnot.

No, thank you.  Square is one of the most egregrious offenders when it comes to making female characters have 'girly' walks and run animations that are utterly ridiculous.  I don't remember FFXIII's animations well enough to tell you if I feel that way about Lightning's, but I can tell you that if I ever see my female protag in a Bioware game run like Yuna and Rikku, I will put my keyboard through my monitor.

And then if I sued Bioware for damages, the judge would totally come down on my side, because jesus christ those run animations.

The animations in DA2 scared me - I was afraid Hawke's waist would snap in half. When I walk I have a slight sway, but I am a little more deliberate in my gate. Of course as some people have fairly pointed out: not everyone walks the same. Maybe a safe in-between?

I liked the cocked hip to one side animation when standing still, otherwise the walk cycle shouldn't be so...cartoony. That's what I got from it. As someone else said, Skyrim's feminine walk cycle was good.

A middle ground seems to be the consensus. Skyrim was okay, except in that game, the top half looked a bit strange. Specifically the arm placement. When walking, a female character's arms are held very close to her torso and don't move very much. Male characters have the opposite problem- their arms are placed farther away from their torso than they should. It's strange looking especially if your male character is not very muscular.

I actually liked the one-hip standing animation. I often stand that way in real life. Don't know if the OP is female or not, but it's actually quite comfortable to stand that way. :)

What really bothered me about ladyHawke's run was the floppy-wrist thing she did. I don't know anyone, male or female, who runs like that.

That's the problem I'm having with my Trooper in SWTOR, too: she's more mincing than sprinting.  No professional soldier would run like that.  She spends half her energy keeping her arms up way too high.  <_<

I loved my FemHawke's walk in a mage's robe.

She gave off complete confidence and power.

There is a girl that lives in my buddies apartment complex with some serious 'donk going on and she walks like the DA2 ladies. It makes me wish more did so.

I vaguely remember a bunch of people asking or demanding that they make female characters sway their hips in DA2 when they walk a little.

ME1 had a freaking perfect walking and running animation. It was unisex, it wasn't too masculine nor feminine, and when Shepard had to run he/she really RAN. That's just my opinion.

I'd agree with that. I felt like ME FemShep moved like a lady, but not in such a way that it felt like she was screaming "Look at meee! I'm a womannn! Sexy times, whoo!!!"

As a result, some people complained that ManShep had effeminate hands.

Not a bad thing, I would argue.  Certainly better than the giant hand alternative.

They should make her walk/run like she was performing Michael Jackson's "Thriller".

Funny thing, there was a HOARD of posters beefing that females walked and moved just like men in previous bioware games. Please BioWare don't give her the sway walk! Please BioWare don't make her walk like a man!

There must be some sort of happy medium. I have faith in Bioware to find it.;)

you have more faith than i do, so far everytime the comunity has been split down the middle they just remove it.

I honestly never noticed the walking animations of female characters in DA:O.

I did notice Lady Hawke's walking many times, it had me boggling as I don't think I've seen anyone walk that way (actual walking to get somewhere).

It's nice that they're giving female pc's their own walking animation, but maybe tone it down just a smidgen eh?
