For the past month or so I have been doing an "Iron Man run" of the entire Mass Effect series. For those who don't know, an iron man run is when you if you die anytime during the game, you have to restart from the beggining. It's morecommon with games like Fallout and stuff but works with any game. It makes combat really fun knowing that if you die, all your progress is lost. I beat ME1 and ME2 and I am a few hours in ME3. I played ME1 on normal and ME2 on vetrean but because of the removal of Vetrean in ME3 I can't decide what difficulty to play on. I'm crossed between hardcore and normal. What difficulty do you guys think provides the most balance for an "iron man run?" Insanity, while fun is way too hard for a no death completion and anything below normal takes away the tension of most fights. Another way to puy the question would be, what would be the canon dificulty seeting for the series? I understand normal is the baselines experinces, but I'm interested in what other people think. Thanks.
Also if you wanna replay the ME series, I would recomond giving this a try. Having the final boss fight with Saren was extremly intense. I got the idea from a youtuber named Spiffy Squee, he's currently in progress of iron man run.

How hard was ME2 for you on Veteran?

The Prime change is probably the only thing I would worry about in ME3... well except for the boss fight in Citadel.

What class are you playing?

I would also figure that overall ME1 would be the hardest not to get killed on. Because of the number of one-shot kills that can occur. At least that happens on the higher difficulties.

Nice job on not getting killed in ME1.. I died only once on foot (took a rocket to the back of the head on the citadel), the rest of the time I died in the Mako..

I would say Hardcore is your best bet for a decent and easy Iron Man run for ME3. Cerberus doesn't lob as many grenades on that difficulty than on Insanity.

My first time through I used Normal, and in almost all cases it was pretty easy. But there are still some points where if you aren't careful you will die and head back to ME1 (unless you will only restart ME3, which makes more sense to me). In the main game the Reaper on Rannoch was the worst for me, I got killed several times there. Also the boss fight just prior to that, you have 3 Primes to kill, and the map doesn't give much opportunity for kiting.

If you are also doing DLC, then the mining colony in Leviathan is pretty tough because you have a timed task with a Banshee and Ravagers after you. Omega you have the final fight in Afterlife. In Citadel you have the final mirror mode fight on the Normandy.

I think you could probably do most of the game in Hardcore, but those couple fights I would consider dropping to Normal, if you are willing.
