I don't think it's what she says, but how she says it. A friendly compliment would have been fine, but when it sounds like a come on... yeah.

Let me guess, you have never got a compliment in your life. Ding-ding-ding! Winner!

The way she said it is like how anyone would say a compliment. How it sounds flirty, I have no idea. In fact, with a Shepard (Male) the way she said it was so friend-zonish (Except the things she said after.)

Then again, she is a socially inept Archaeologist/nerd. But that was a friendly compliment, have you never heard a woman saying to another woman "You look beautiful in that dress!"?

But from my Mr.Hyde side says that you are correct in someway. I have this theory that Liara does seem to have a crush on whatever Shepard you're playing.

Yes she does, and Tali has a secret crush on whatever Shepard isn't romancing Tali, male sheps anyway.

Yes, Kelly confirmed that in ME2 and I didn't even talk to Tali in any previous games by choice.

Thats not a theory,it's a fact you mild melded with her in the first and you are friggin Commander Shoerd for crying out loud. She is the canon romance obviously as well, the other relationships are there as fan service and for alternate play troughs. Her feelings are going to show through every time.

I suppose we'll never agree on the interpretation here. Because that's what it comes down to - interpretation.
Neither of my Shepards considers Liara a good friend, no matter what Bioware tried to force. So for me it wasn't friendly flirt. It was yet another attempt to get into Shepard's pants.

It's quite similar when some don't like Kaidan saying "are you flirting with me?" to mShep, during first hospital visit (considering it unwelcome come-on).

So don't say things like "you have never got a compliment in your life". Some complimets can be very unwelcome.

Yeah, it was a bit weird hearing her say that the first time, but I figured out pretty quickly that she's basically the one who will come to help you first if you have romanced Traynor (and Cortez too, probably) or no one at all. BioWare was a bit lazy, however, and didn't give her non-romance dialogue. Or if they did, it was bugged.

So it was a bit weird to hear her say that the first time, but only because that line was so out of the blue. Aside from that, it didn't bother me. I guess I could complain that I was already in a romance with Traynor and Liara should know that, but damn it, I've got better things to worry about than one line of dialogue.

Eh, put me in the camp of 'it's not that she said it, it's how she said it'. I can see the humorous intention, but the inflection is the same as if she's your LI and the same inflection as any other LI.

At the end of the day though, it's such a minor thing in a DLC full of so much delightful cheese that it can be easily overlooked.

I didn't like it as it adds to the overall Liara vibe in ME3 as a whole that i didn'tappreciate. But yeah it is a very small thing that didn't change my overall positive view of 'Citadel'

I took the comment to mean "lolwut you don't have your armor?", a joke on how Shepard was caught with his proverbial pants down.

Wait, Liara says that even when unromanced?

Goddamn it.

No she doesn't, she's into Garrus.

Huh. When I first heard the line (romanced Liara and wearing that horrible dress for extra hilarty in combat) I thought it might have been the devs thinking of everything.
Turns out they just have the same line for everyone... Why am I surprised by that?

It could be that it is flagging incorrectly.

Even if it isn't, it isn't that big of a deal. Like a lot of people have noticed, Liara might have a bit of thing for the Commander so it shouldn't feel too out of character - even if you or your Shepard didn't like it.

For me, my canon Shepard romanced Miranda, but had a relationship with Liara in ME1. So it wasn't too out of place, I just imagined that she slipped up because sometime exes have moments. Although, now I think some peoples' interpretations about being wet from the fish tank or not having armor might be more along the lines of what was intended.

So in the Citedel DLC if Liara is the one that comes to help you in the first mission she makes a come t about likeing my outfit in a flirty kind of way.  But all I could think was "you like my Aliance blues?  The ones I have had on since Earth was hit?"

It's because she's never seen you wear clothes before. In reality, you're always going into battle naked.

It's not surprising that Liara would hit on Shepard even when you didn't romance her. She's #1 on the list of known Shepard stalkers.

I was wearing my leather jacket for shore leave. It felt right. It was also the first time I had worn that outfit in front of Liara. I thought it was a nice addition....

but now...

My head cannoned explanation was that it was a sarcastic comment based on me covered in fish water.

I was totally confused as to why Tali was checking me out while I was wearing the same hoodie that I've had on since pretty much the beginning of the game.

I think some of you people have been playing too many video games. A woman complimenting your looks, isn't necessarily trying to get something going between you and her. She's not trying to 'lock in' a romance. Strange concept, I know.

My Shepard was in his underwear, so it made sense for her to say that. You see, when I play Mass Effect, Shepard goes all out.

Pretty sure that was the actual developer intent.  And they just couldn't create the right appearance for Shepard

If some beautiful lady randomly gave me a complement, I would be flattered.

I guess all the Liara haters have never received complements before, and as a result are confused by Liara's dialogue.

Come at me.

Depends on how the compliment was said and in this case it was a flirt. As it is with Garrus, Ashley, Kaidan, Tali, and Liara if you are romancing her. It also sucks because Liara says the line no matter what, which means Liaramancers didn't get anything special from her.

@MegaSovereign

I don't hate Liara, but I don't like that line from her in that tone of voice.

Liaramancers have gotten enough content, no need to spoil them.

Woman never compliment unless they want something, Liara wants the D.

I'm glad you understand.  You can even see Liara's eyes twitiching because she can't hold back that "embrace enternity" mind tingling, ya dig?
