This song is in Saints Row 4. Including the famous lines that usually go with that song (Transformers fans know what I'm talking about).

I'm calling it: GOTY confirmed. :D

I know a lot.

I know for instance that the ending of ME3 is parodied in Saints Row 4. Somewhere in the game, the boss will get in a scenario that's very similar to both The Matrix and ME3's ending.

They also parody the ME2 Collector escape jump Shepard does.

I really hope they also have endings where you can select a colored overlay; for example, before the ending plays, you can choose it to have a red/green/purple overlay. It's be a blatantly obvious, albeit spot-on parody.

Don't go spoiling things, Hanar; I want to find this stuff out for myself.

But yeah, this is looking like it'll be 2nd or 3rd best game of the year for me (because no way in hell it's beating TLoU).

Seconded on the bold part. SR4 so far is looking much better than it did a month ago. I was worried it'd be an SR3 ripoff through and through.

Unlike 2012, 2013 is turning out to be a great year for gaming it seems.

I always like the Mix radio station, though it's still no where near as good as the songs that SR2 had on that station.

Well I would normally not preorder Saints Row IV but I had a giftcard.

Personally i'm not expecting much. I have been with the series since SR1 and I personally find most of the series a large step backwards from Saints Row 2 for the most part.

But since most of my problems with SR3 were caused by THQ... and Volition seems to really communicate and listen to fans i'm giving them another chance.

I don't get this sentiment.

I've been with Saints Row from the very beginning as well (bought SR1 on the release date) and I don't think Saints Row 3 is a step backwards at all.

Did they cut some stuff that I wish they didn't cut? Hell yes!

But overall I think SR3 was a huge step forward, especially from a technical and graphical point of view. Saints Row 2 is clunky, glitchy, buggy and the gameplay rather sucks. Saints Row 3 is faster, smoother, less buggy, less clunky and the game mechanics are better and more responsive.

As for the humor: Many folks prefered the humor in Saints Row 2, and I can get that, but I don't share that sentiment either. SR3's silly over the top pulp humor is way more appealing to me.

The voice-acting in SR3 is also better than in SR2.

The characters look better in SR3.

The animations look way better in SR3.

The music is better in SR3.

The only thing I really miss from SR2 is the intense drama. I loved the more serious, more dramatic scenes in SR2. Most of the Ronin scenes for example, mannnn those are intense, I love them! I wish SR3 had more of those.

Ok, so I kind of spoiled myself here, but dang, there is an event near the beggining of the game that had me completely dumbfolded. I won't spoil it here but I think the devs went a little too far with this plot twist.

Thing is Saints Row failed in terms of 2 to 3 only reall improved in all the cosmetic factors in terms of story or closing up lose ends from two, it failed hard, its like a whole nother product. Not a bad game but I played Sr2 far longer than 3, and I feel no pressing need for 4.

The issue is that, though SR1 and SR2 were indeed fun games, they were direct competition to Grand Theft Auto on both counts. In some cases, they were near-ripoffs of GTA. They weren't bad, of course, but at the time, the hardline Saints Row fans loved the SR1-SR2 style of gameplay. When SR3, which was entirely different from anything before it, came out, old fans typically met it with disgust, as it wasn't the SR1-SR2 gameplay they were used to. However, on the whole, SR3 actually was received -better- than SR1 and SR2 by new fans. The old fans drew criticism to it, because they missed the GTA-style gameplay.

While it is true SR3 and now SR4 are more ridiculous and bombastic, rather than moody and serious, they're still fun in their own right. If fans miss SR1-SR2, you've got Grand Theft Auto V on the way to make up for it. I loved SR3 more than SR2, and by the looks of it, I'll love SR4 even more.

Update on my earlier post: I was one click away from buying it when I decided to have one last look at the Coming Soon list, at which point I realised Rome II was just around the corner.

Steam Sale it is.

I can't wait. The game is released tomorrow. I bought the game on pre-order through Steam. I would have bought it on Origins in order to keep all the game collections in one place, but they don't have it there. There haven't been any game I'm interested in for the whole summer, so this is a good change of pace.

I slightly prefer SR2 over SR3. That SR4 seems to be even more insane and ridiculous probably means i won't like it as much but as you actually pointed out. I got GTA V coming out that is more aligned to my taste and that's just fine with me. Not every game will be to my liking and who knows, SR4 might be something that i'll like, only time will tell and if the game isn't then i sure won't throw a fit over it. It just mean that some people got the game they really wanted and that's this time i didn't. Can't get them all :)

Been playing Steadily for the past two days (doing a lot of exploring and side missions so not quite finished the game) but overall this game is real fun to play.

The story and atmosphere is both way out there like SR3 but at the same time the story has a lot more structure and darker, more serious tones.  So a hybrid style of wackiness and serious.

Gameplay is improved considerably.  Guns feel more balanced and there are a lot more of them this time with betetr custimization (Sniper Rifle has a lot more kick now) and super powers actually compliment your base weapons so you will be mixing it up between regular weapons and super powers to create some interesitng tactics and strategy.

Navigating the city with Super Powers though is just soo much fun. Running up walls, long jumping city blocks, gliding through the sky.  You can seriously just spend a game session doing that.

Enemies are an odd one this time.  There is only one faction this time around however this one faction has a lot more variety in the type of enemies you will be facing compared to SR3 and many of them actually require a little thinking and strategy to defeat from taking out generators, using powers to cripple shields, locating and destroying a CID to mask your location.  There are other enemies but I don't want to spoil them.

Game is also harder than SR3 as you do not have regenerating health (health pick ups appear but you can't run behind a building and wait for your health to auto refill) plus you don't get notority wipe in this game as easily (thus making the need to locate CID's more important).  NPC's will also be more likely to attack you if a fight starts (which is more akin to SR2).

Mission structure also feels much better as mini games get incorporated into side missions giving a better feeling of accomplishment for doing them were as in SR3 they were just there, SR4 side missions gives you  a set task of certain events, each giving you a small reward, and completing all in the set gets you a bonus reward.

Honestly this game is a lot of fun and, in my opinion, better than SR3 (which I did enjoy playing).  Enjoyable gameplay, tons of references to other games, movies, etc.  SR4 is fun and that is what matters.

I agree with pretty much everything you wrote, wolfsite. SR4 tops SR3 for me. I'm not done with it yet, but it's coming dangerously close to becoming my favorite SR game. While the main plot and various scenarios are as ridiculous as ever, this game is managing to do something SR3 failed to do: it's making me care. I actually feel an emotional connection to some of the characters now. I also truly hate Zinyak yet simultaneously find him fun to watch as far as villains go.

There are also so many little references to SR3 and SR2, in addition to other games. Some are subtle, like a knock off of the original Metroid's title theme when you're playing through Matt's text adventure. Others are blatant and glorious, like Asha's entire first mission. XD Anyone who has been playing through the series and wasn't turned away by SR3's silliness will love how SR4 bookends practically everything.

Challenge is also much improved. I went into it on hardcore expecting faceroll easy SR3 gameplay, and have been pleasantly surprised. I've actually needed to think about how to approach certain fights now.

It just all comes together beautifully. My only serious complaints are the loss of the latina voice I've been using since SR2, and generally meh song selection this time around. I find myself sticking to the same three radio stations instead of hopping around like I used to.
