The franchise has just become too goofy for me. I loved SR2, the stories and scenes. SR3 was just a mess of immaturity and goofiness which turned me off on the series.

This. Distinguishing yourself from that "other" series is fine but I don't think it had to be to this degree. SR2 did it right in my opinion.

Seriously though... I don't see the appeal in reference to more than one playthrough of wackyness. I was never into the Saints Row series to begin with, but this won't persuade me to purchase it.

I view it as a release, not as a means of engaging my higher functions and trying to constantly predict what might happen when to who and why. That, I have plenty of material for. But it is beneficial to have a game in which you can just let your mind rest for a while, and enjoy some nice, funny, rather immature and senseless acts.

I need that release, I cannot simply just hide behind a constant facade of effortlessly pursuing high level intellectual theorizing to get a good numerical score on a academic registration form which could determine whether I am allowed an interview for a higher level employment opportunity or not. I need something to break up the monotony of academia and low income employment and have some fun without effort.

That's an interesting aspect. Though, I don't have the time I used to, to venture into games, so when I do dive into games on my own time, I'd like them to be more than just "funny" and "senseless acts", but that's just me.

Exatily how I feel, wish theyd take a few steps back and make it more like saints 1 or 2.

Not the first one. Not that it was a bad game, it just never distinguished itself enough from GTA.

I was gutted to see what they are doing with SR4. It's not a sequel as I see it. They could have kept the zany/serious balance they had in SR3 and continued with the character stories, add a new city, new weapons, etc. Instead they all smoked crack and came up with the alien bit. In bizarro Steelport no less. This is why I'm looking at Watch Dogs.

True, and I did enjoy the darker feel of two.

I wonder if they had kept this as an expansion for SR3, would they go back to their roots with Saints Row 4

Like Volus said, this just looks like Crackdown Row. That's just a horrible mesh of ideas considering what this series should've been.

I'm more curious to see how Saints Row 5 will turn out with Deep Silver as the Publisher and IP holder.  SR4 can still be considered a THQ game since the vast majority of the game was developed while still under there brand.

Either they'll realize THQ's mistake and do a remake of the series, something closer to SR 2, or just make something more zany than SR 3-4 and completely butcher the franchise. I suspect the second option is most likely to happen.

The trailer looked Prototype/Infamous parody. Do not want.

I could get behind this a lot.

So you'd want them to continue what this dumb crap is than go back to how fun SR2 was? Image IPB

So they release a The Third DLC as a full game price?

And then people complains about CoD.

Yep SR3 was fun to play even more fun than SR2 and leagues more fun then any GTA game, if it went back it would be highly unlikely that I'd buy it.

At this point I feel that Saints Row 4 doesn't even know what it wants to be anymore. First it felt more like a homage to the gangster-setting of San Andreas, with SR1 & 2, whereas a genuine story existed in number two. Now it's pumped itself with even more meta-humans and aliens. Does it want to be more like Protoype & inFamous now? Where you play a villainous caricature with all-mighty super powers.. Come to think of it - It's probably more like Prototype, given that they've thrown the plot out of the window in exchange for the crazyness. Plus the protagonist has always been a sociopath since the first game, to a degree of course.

I'm sorry but the ****** bat gets boring eventually.. and the dubstep gun will too.

But killing Maero? Nope never.

I really wouldn't mind if it stayed silly but I need some sort of story with interesting characters to stay invested in the series and it certainly does not like SR4 is going to offer that at all.

Besides where do you go after this?

For once I completely agree with you.

SR2 was the perfect balance between silly and serious, that's what I liked about Saints Row

All this dumb crap that there trying to do has nothing to do with the Saints or Gangs in-general

Meh. Doesn't look promising to me.
