So the game has affectively been banned from sale in Australia despite the new R18+ rating.  Saints Row 3 receieved M15+ rating when it was released and it had no alterations done to it compared to North America (I think the Japanese version had some slight censoring) so it makes you wonder if there is more mature content or the rating board was just beeing harsher on the game this time around.

Article has an update:

Deep Silver can confirm that Saints Row IV[/i] was denied an age classification in Australia. Volition, the developer, are reworking some of the code to create a version of the game for this territory by removing the content which could cause offence without reducing the outlandish gameplay that Saints Row[/i] fans know and love. Saints Row IV[/i] has been awarded PEGI 18 and ESRB M ratings where fans can enjoy their time in Steelport as originally intended

BAWWWWWWWWW I just f*cking pre-ordered on the weekend and now am going to get a watered down version unless I buy it from Europe <_<

So I just finished SR2 and enjoyed it immensely. Especially its extensive customisation and scope.
Is SR3 similar and should I perhaps buy SR4 later this year?

I started with SR3 then played SR2 afterwards.

SR3 is fun to play, as many have said the zany factor is bumped up big time.  However there is les clothing customization options and fewer side missions compared to SR2, it isn't a bad game, just SR2 had more options.

SR4 is bringing back some options though, the campaign will be longer then SR3 and weapons are going to have a lot of modding and customization features.

Volition is also working to release Modding tools for SR3 (called Kinsey's tool box) so fans can make there own content for the game and if this prooves successful they plan to do the same for SR4..... there is even a rumour that a mod team is already planning to create a mod for SR3 that will put some scenes and missions in that were originally scrapped or were changed for the official release.

Hopefully with Deep Silver taking over publishing duties we will see some good leaps for SR5.  Have a feeling Deep Silver eased up on restrictions that were on Volition since the developers are actually talking and sharing ideas with modders now and releasing official modding tools.

Again not implying SR4 will be bad, just saying that Volition appears to have more freedoms since being acquired by Deep Silver.

I'll be picking it up. I played SR2 and SR3 with my woman and she really enjoyed them. She is actually really excited for SR4 which is rare. She doesn't get excited for too many video games.

Lol.

To be fair, Voltion's sodomy gun is really asking for it. In the end it just means more controversy and more sales.

Time travel semi-confirmed for Saints Row 5. Lol.

(Don't be surprised if it ends up being true. Ha ha ha.)

Looks like Volition let some of the more active Saints Row Modders have a go at the most recent press build of the game, you can find there impressions here.

www.saintsrowmods.com/forum/threads/hands-on-with-the-saints-row-iv-press-preview.2759/

But by the looks of it they are really expanding character customization as the amount of clothing you can pick from with more than double the amount of options that was in SR3 (including DLC) and over 100 hairstlyes to choose from (again doubling SR3) with plenty of styles to suit most tastes.

It also looks like they are bringing elements of SR2 back that were missing in SR3 (such as how notority works, as well as some SR2 vehicles and tattoos)

and in an odd twist when you preorder SR4 on Steam you get TF2 weapons to use in SR4.... which is odd since it is normally the other way around.

Saints Row 3 might more more minimalistic than Saints Row 2, but everything it does have is better, A LOT better in SR3 than in SR2.

In short,

when it comes to quantity: SR2 > SR3

but when it comes to quality: SR3 > SR2

Saints Row 2 also had a better story than 3, but more importantly better balance between serious and wacky

Disagree.
The story, characters and choices were better in SR2.
Side missions were also a lot more fun and had more diversity like Fight Club and Septic Avenger.
The only good side missions in SR3 were "Profesor super reality game show" or whatever was that thing called
Saints Row 2 has more quantity and quality than SR3.

What pisses me off even more, is that SR4 will be a sci-fi game with aliens invading the Earth.
Couldn't they come up with something better? I understand SR franchise is not serious and it's suppost to be just fun, but alien invasion sounds like a bad attempt just so they can find excuse for the super powers.
Speaking of super powers, when i saw gameplay all i could think is "Prototype mixed with Alien anal probe and purple dildos."

SR3 was for me this dude who learned that new, and at the beginning, kind of funny joke but then repeats it over and over again until you want to beat him to death with it.

The humor does grow stale after awhile. I did love flying in the Hind however and ripping the gangs apart.

Saints Row 2 is an ugly buggy mess with crap graphics, unresponsive controls, cars with absolute horrible handling, and all the side-missions that were in both SR2 and SR3, SR3 did better (for example Insureance Fraud works a lot better and is a lot more fun in SR3 than it is in SR2).

My judgement might be biased since I played both games on PC, and I can tell you, the PC port of SR2 is an absolute horrible piece of sh¡t, while the PC port of SR3 is near perfect (still has lots of glitches and tiny bugs, but nothing game-breaking).

I also prefer the humor in SR3. I'm a big fan of the silly over the top toilet humor. SR2 tried to much to be a parody on GTA and (in my opinion) failed at it.

The PS3 version was quite bad for me as well the shooting controls and AI was awful. My idea of a kickass fem gang leader got screwed over by all the dialog being the same and her looking like a man no matter what i did.

Also, this is my SR2 character. People from The Netherlands or people familiar with the Dutch show 'New Kids' might recognize my SR2 character:

For those who are not familiar with ´New Kids´, check this (it's in English).
