Most facepalm worthy material. I am deeply unsurprised.

Pugs gotta pug as they say.

I don't see the problem. Honestly, when I use consumables depends on the other three players and/or what kit I'm using. If I'm running the Geth Trooper or Juggernaut, then I have no need for consumables on Gold. If I'm playing one of the ex-Cerberus characters, then I will use some. If none of the other three players are using consumables I won't either. If the other three have put them on, then I'll throw some on myself, even if I don't think the character I'm using really needs it.

But as the Gold playing community has upgraded not only their skills, but also their weapons, the equipment has become less necessary than it used to be.

Not so sure about that, the vast majority of gold pugs will fail if not carried in my experience, playing with friends is a differnet game.

Oh, I agree the vast majority need carrying.

I meant the people doing the carrying, so to speak. It's less common that they won't equip anything, because they usually also have an abundance of gear items, and no reason not to use them.

The flip side is that the people being carried are doing it because it has gradually become more acceptable.

I used to see red Xs in Gold PuGs all the time. Lately, I almost never see kick votes, even when there's absurdly silly loadouts in the lobby. I'm not a kicker, myself, so I'm happy with the newfound tolerance, but I suppose the culture shift over equipment use would be the downside of the change.

You dont need equipment, just an ammo power and gear, anything else is a luxury.

So perhaps we have become too tolerant? How awful. I just exit a lobby if it looks like fail. The thing is more gold players are actually doing it and think its OK to fail all the time. I don't get that.

New characters and powers sap the difficulty away.

Truth bomb right here folks.

You can easily come in #1 or #2 on scoreboard using just the AIU with Piranha X + Shock Trooper Gear V, no consumables required.

Honestly using any lvl 2+ consumables on her makes me feel dirty on anything less than Plat.

I just wanna play. So yes, I may check my teammates' loadouts to see what kits/weapons/gear they have but it in no way determines whether or not I'll play with them. Let's just get into battle and let the chips fall where they may.

Should those chips land at my feet out of the pockets of my fallen comrades on consecutive waves, so be it.

Its like 50/50 in Gold where no one will equip any thing. Almost guaranteed that there will always be one that will never equip gear.

I pretty much just PUG as well. If I see this happen, I will definitely downgrade to lvl 1 gear and not revive them unless its a safe situation. More chances than not, they have no gels or rockets. No problems carrying people, but I won't wipe out, use rockets, or waste gels just to revive someone when they are going to bleed out.

There is zero excuse not to use at least mid to low level equipment on gold.

I have a good one. What if you started over on another platform and don't have any to use, but are good enough to play with just gear and a decent Rare/UR weapon that is at a low level?

I think that's a pretty good reason.

Another is that it looks like a group that won't even make it past one money wave.

I thought this was going to be a "Gold is really easy now" thread.

I don't find equipment on gold necessary and I won't kick for it, but I always strap on some level 1 and, rarely, level 2. stuff. I'm usually doing most of the work and have absolutely no care for how long the game takes (so long as it's not something ridiculous like 40+ minutes...), so it's all good.

There is this so called illusion that is badasness for clearing public games without the use of equipment/consumables. In actuality though, there is nothing badass about 25+ minutes games.

I could care less if you can hold your own on Gold+ without equipment. You are gimping the clearing time however, and I give a f*ck about that.

I find it kinda weird too tbh. Myself all loaded up with level3's on Gold. I just shrug and play. We often make it through.

I tend to look at the weapon levels being used, which is a reasonable indicator of how long a player has been playing. The odd time I have some real noobs and decided to leave the lobby.

Sometimes you just gotta trust your gut, one way or the other. Crappy players might have good weapons and using consumables, but still suck the biggie.

Gold has always been treated like Silver, and Platinum too. I don't even care at this point. I make my own lobbies and never wait for anyone. I gear up and go on alone.

People not using equipment, consumeables or anything in Gold is pretty common. Always has been. It doesn't matter if they can back it up, or not. It's why I went to silver for the longest time.

Sometimes they might use equipment that doesn't fit very well. At least they're trying. <.<

I at least try and put some level 1-2 stuff as a formality. 3 if I feel like it.

I will slap on every bit of equipment i have in gold matches, whats the point off keeping it? With plat being the least played there is no way they are all saving it for platinum runs. Always lived by "i wanna be the poorest guy in the graveyard" motto in this game. Its not like you can bloody sell it back to the store

Actually even with bad Juggernauts players in the team the odds of extracting are far better then before except against Collectors.

You have to remember that the vast majority of the player base are either full time PUGs or very close to it. Myself included... allot of them don't ever bother visiting the forums or turning there mic on. And because of that allot of them get man handled on Gold & Plat runs, so they don't bother "wasteing" consumables. You also have to remember that allot of PUGs are stuck playing bronze & silver for credits with ramshackle manifests so they're using virtually everything they have trying for unlocks still.

Personally, my consumables typically decide what character I'm going to be using. When I start running myself out of stuff I host silver matches with characters that are built with survival in mind so I can restock a bit before jumping back into the Quick Match Gold grind.

I'm not defending the players that purposely hop in Gold / Plat matches unequipped, just explaining what I imagine as the primary reason behind it. I'll unready and tell the group to equip gear or get out of the lobby if it's obvious that people are trying to scrape by with the bare minamum. But at the same time I've bled out rather than using another gel because the group was getting maimed on wave 4...

I played a Platinum PUG last night...I had 3 people using the AIU.  Two with a Claymore X and one with Reegar X.  The two with the Claymore were absolutely awful, I mean awful.  Just because you use a class that can go down and get up on it's own doesn't mean you're capable of playing.  These guys wouldn't of made it through gold lol.

AIU isn't that great anyway....I always see someone or myself outscoring them.

I always pack at least a couple of level 1/2 stuff or a level 3 ammo power just to be fair to my team mates who are also using equipment. Yes, any regular (non-farming) plat player can probably do gold with just gear but that's the thing. If you're a regular plat player, you're likely to have a good surplus of equipment. No point in hoarding stuff that you'll probably never ran out of anyway.
