I'm not going to contest that more people like the ending because I don't believe that to be the case. However, clearly by how Bioware is behaving enough people like the ending that they are not worried or concerned about it anymore. Enough people like the ending that they can afford to lose the people who don't.

I imagine that they're putting together people who like the ending, people who don't care much about the ending, people who think the ending is terrible but that this doesn't matter very much, people who think the ending is flawed but not actually awful, etc. ..... and coming up with a number that's well north of 50%

Which is one more reason to completely discount Mertzen's commentary.  Unless you are willing to reveal your data and methods for public scrutiny, then you can twist (and lie) in this way all you want.  The bottom line is if the data is proprietary, then STFU.  If you want to comment about data, be prepared to show your work.

Jessica never claimed more people liked the ending. She claimed that the people asking for a new ending are the minority, which can range from dubious to tautological depending on how you are defining your populations.

You can mince it and try to excuse it all you like, but extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence or she should STFU.  Really.  If she wasn't prepared to show her work, then don't make the claim.

I am just making sure you know the extraordinary claim to which you are objecting, which it is apparent you don't.

Moreover, I wasn't agreeing or disagreeing with you about showing her work. In fact you can see from my above post that I find her statement meaningless since you can manipulate the population sample to produce a variety of numbers.

Actually I don't think you do either.  I saw the original twitter convo, and Mertzen was clearly implying (at the very least) that those that didn't like the endings were in the minority.  You are mincing words at this point.

Here's the tweet line:

Jessica: this is our last DLC for ME3 so I can safely say that post-ending DLC will not happen.
Chris Erwood: I thought we were told Bioware were listening to fan feedback on this one?
Jessica: We did, and the numbers did all the talking. You are not in the majority, despite what you may believe.

That discussion is clearly about post-ending DLC.

The only figure that I have ever seen Bioware release about it's games  ( according to Forbes www.forbes.com/sites/davidthier/2012/08/13/only-42-of-players-finished-mass-effect-3/ ) is that only 42% of the players that bought the game bothered to finish playing Mass Effect 3. So that tells me that yes in fact the while majority of the player base could dislike the games ending  they are really are  not as concerned with it since the overwhelming percentage of people never bothered to finish it. If you strickly go by the numbers.

You are cutting out the rest of that convo when it was taken over by clevernoob.  Jessica clearly wants us to believe that those of us that didn't like the endings were in the Minority and Doctor M in his recent lecture states this explicitly (and the doctor was talking pre-EC!)

That's pretty much the case with every video game though.

By the same logic and standards most people didn't finish (and therefor didn't care) about the endings of DAO, yet people clearly did (and it was praised highly).  Of course, every time, you test a game or every time, you do a snippet of a game, or many other reasons, it comes across online as though you "didn't finish it".    The stat is extremely misleading (to the point of being borderline dishonest).

Do you have a link? Because that particular twitter thread doesn't have Jessica responding to Clevernoob at all. I know that she did in another thread but I can't find it.

Yes she does.  She is responding to noob when she says that her info is "top secret" but trust us, she's right and we are wrong (yes I am paraphrasing).

She also tells that the method used by someone like Clevernoob are flawed.

You cannot use self selection polls to prove a majority.

It's better than claiming a majority and then not providing any evidence whatsoever.

All statistical methods of research have their flaws, so whats your point?

I just attribute the breath scene as a teaser for the next Mass Effect game. Somewhat similar to how they do it in Halo where you get an extra scene for completing on Legendary. The only confusing thing is how they constantly say how Shepard won't be in the next one...so it raises the question: "Why have it at all and not follow up on it?"

I put it to a 50/50 chance for either troll by BioWare or teaser for next game.

More like it's BW hedging their bets - killing of their popular protagonist leaves them nowhere to go in the event of ME4 failing.

They really wrote themselves into a corner huh? Considering there will be another game. Not many viable options left.
