DA2 is my second favorite BioWare game. I know some people didn't like it, but I thought it was pretty special. It felt fresh and on PC, I thought it looked pretty fantastic from an artistic perspective.

I only played it 6 months or so ago, but I'm already getting nostalgia feels from it. Which is wierd for me, normally it takes a couple years.

Anyway, I would like to take this opportunity to encourage BSN people to list their favorite things about DA2 that they would like to see iterated/expanded/included in DA3.

For me:
  • Unconventional BioWare Game Plot - I loved the structure, it felt fresh compared to other BW games, the large time scale of the story, I believe, also made up for the smaller location.
  • Really good female clothing, especially for warriors, it didn't have boob plate armor as far as I noticed, which is good. I don't like boob plate armor, it hurts my chest thinking about it.
  • Interesting philosophical as well as social conflict between Templars and Mages and the applicability to themes of extremism, tolerance and culture in our own world.
  • Awesome female voice actor - I loved femhawkes voice, it had some attitude, which I loved
  • Very distinct characters, while I would have liked to customize their appearence, the actual design of the characters was overall quite impressive.
  • Acceptance of sexuality, gender and other topics considered "normal" in the DA universe. I really liked how  different it was to see a mediavel game without gender bias or sexuality bias.
  • Cinematic and speedy combat - the combat was far meatier, and while I would have liked some more varied animations, I thought the impact the games combat made pausing far more necessary and tactics programming almost essential to ensure fights didn't last forever. It was very satisfying to clear a room in seconds I will say that.
  • Importing saves - no brainer that this was great, I loved hearing about my warden and seeing old friends again, it was awesome.
  • Bodan and Sandal - these guys are almost a secondary framing device, I really hope we see them again, the warm my heart :)

What are your favorite bits of DA2?

The only thing I thought to be an improvement and hope to see again is the friendship/rivalry system for companions.

Among other things, the Friendship/Rivalry system. So much better than GIVE ME GIFTS OR I LEAVE (I know it wasn't actually like that). IT did however have a lot more nuance and could be developed further

Most of the things you said StElmo. Also:
  • The nice robe (when I say robe I mean mage armor most of the robes were still pretty fugly) and armor design (as well as the art direction in general).
  • The much better proportioned characters.
  • Main quests that are connected to each other.
  • Friendship and Rivalry system.
  • Brutalist architecture! (though I suppose this i Kirkwall style so I hope we can go back there)
  • Qunari
  • The elf design (though I would like more time spent on the npc's)
  • Women in all sorts of leadership roles
  • Force Magic
  • Hide helmet option
  • Voiced Protagonist
  • Stories that doesn't involve saving the world.
  • A highres texture pack
  • The option to let companions take care of things for you
  • ...and companions doing things whether you like it or not.
There's probably much more that I can't remember right now.

- I loved the talent trees and that every class (even rogues) felt special. DA2 is also the first game where I actually enjoyed playing a mage.

- Most of the plot. For me it was very refreshing not to be forced into an order/army and saving the world from the big bad evil.

- This is probably not a populair one on the BSN but a protagonist more like Hawke. A protagonist that isn't always the big hero. Hawke is the only protagonist that I have played that utterly failed their goals and I lover her for it. The plot broke her. She tried her best to maintain status quo but everything fell apart right infront of her. A close friend was a big part of that and she had to make a very tough call. It would have been very interesting to be able to pick her back up in an expansion but alas..

- Voiced protagonist. If everyone else in the world is speaking that I want the protagonist to speak too. No more NPC's 'stealing' speeches and emotional scenes from the protagonist.

- Varric. I want more Varric in the next game.

- Mages being able to wear pants. In fact I prefer most of the armor design in DA2 over DAO.

- Companion quests.

- Sarcasm.

DA3's story was already said to be more similar to DAO than DA2. The concept of DA2's story was good, but I didn't like much the execution, though the short development time surely penalized the story (among other features).
I liked the qunari design in general, though I'd like to see them with proper armours if they return.
I'd like to see the F/R back integrated to the approval/disapproval system, since I think both DAO's and DA2's system didn't work well because they were incomplete. But I think Bioware said they'll return to a (modified) A/D system.
What I'd like to (partially) take from DA2 is the fact that the hero doesn't have to always win or succeed (though DA2 was too extreme in this). Even if the PC will win in the end, I want him to fail sometimes. A mix between DAO (the Warden almost everytime succeed) and DA2 (Hawke fails a lot of times) would be good, in my opinion.

- LOVED the new talent trees. Heaps better.

- SOME of the visual redesigns Quanari, Elves (not Flemeth).

- Unconventional story arc.

- Improved party interactions - even in PC's absence.

- A PC whose cutscene dialogue reflects the dialogue choices you make (if we MUST have a voiced PC, which I'd rather not, then this is a good way to do it).

- Friendship/Rivalry system. Still needs work (ie, allow for companions to simply not like you) but it was an improvement on what came before.

That's about all in DA2 that pushed my buttons - the good ones, that is.

EDIT: Oh,. and the fact that you can actually dodge attacks in combat.

I really liked Female Hawke as she was every bit the equal of Female shepard. So pity she won't be the protag in the next game as i really liked the VA and default character.
The cutscene dialogue reflecting my choices, i liked and never felt the disconnection from the character, but i always played the witty personality so i never had a problem with what the game was doing.

Da2 had it's weaknesses, no doubt, but I loved it nontheless.
Features I want them to keep for DA3:

- all romances available for either gender
- speedy combat
- the option to be sarcastic and witty...even in the most inappropriate situations
- the Qunari redesign
- also the Elf redesign (yes, I like the new look, but I only wish they would pay a bit more attention to the lesser NPCs)
- MotA (I LOVED MotA. The puzzles, the party, the scenery, Tallis, and especially the look we got at Orlesian politics. GIMME MORE OF THAT, BIOWARE.)
- and last but not least: NO BOOB POCKETS ON ARMOR. BLESS THE MAKER.

So yeah, unlike many other people here, I enjoyed DA2 and have absolutely no doubt DA3 will be grand as well.

Nothing, the only good thing about Dragon Age 2 was Varric.

Da2 was probably the worst game I have ever played.

You must not play very many games, my friend.  I understand disliking it (loved it myself though) but to call it the worst you've ever played is just ridiculous hyperbole unless you've legitimately not played very many games or have been VERY lucky in your purchases.

Anyhow...

I liked the elf redesign and I think Merrill and Fenris were proof that when they took the time to design the characters properly it worked well.

Armor design overall was much better.

Varric and Merrill.

Voiced PC.

Talent trees.

Force magic.

Now for a few things i DON'T want back...

Reused maps.

Forced specialisations and weapon choices for companions.

Enemy waves out of nowhere.

I want my epic story back.  I appreciate what they did with Hawke's story, but I want my elite order and grand, world-shaking adventure back.  I know it's done to death, but that's because it's FUN to save the world and be special.  Sure, break it up once in a while, but don't abandon the concept completely.

Dwarven women.  They are adorable and deadly.  Want them back.

Friendship/Rivalry system -  So much better than Approval.

Aveline - Just Aveline. My favorite Bioware female companion of all time.

Cinematic cutscenes - One of the few things they improved on from Origins.

I disagree with some of your points, OP.

The plot: I was not a fan of the structure. Hawke was way too passive and unresponsive for my tastes. The storylines themselves had a lot of potential though it was hemmed in by the structure. For this, I wish they would go back to something like DAO.

Clothing: I wanted more variety. There were so many robes that were the same, it was ridiculous. Give me variety. Give me robes and armor with no stats and the ability to craft what I'd like.

Importing saves: It needs to stop. I feel like the story is going to get mired down if people keep expecting all of their decisions to carry over and be referenced in each game. I loved the rumors I'd hear in the bar, but you don't need an import for that. They can simply have a menu in the beginning (like they did with DA2) that helps set up the background.

What I do agree with you on:

The voice acting was awesome. Except for Jessica Chobot who played Diana Allers in ME3, I felt that Bioware has always done an excellent job finding talented actors.

The combat was much better than DAO, and it was improved upon in Legacy. (Thank you!) While I'm not a fan of wave after wave for every battle (where do they come from!?), the fact that you had to actually fight instead of pushing a button and watching a character shuffle across the screen is a huge improvement.

Characters: While I liked my companions from DAO better, I feel the DA2 cast was pretty good. Bioware does write good compelling characters. At least they improved the issues I had with the compnaions in Legacy.

Philosophical issues: I like that issues are not just black and white. I think the writing team is excellent when it comes to this.

Gender roles and sexuality: Love the fact that nobody cares. It should keep being not a big deal.

Bohdan and Sandal: These are probably the 2 characters I don't mind seeing pop up again. Besides Flemeth (whose story with Morrigan needs to be tied up), I'm perfectly okay with not seeing old companions/NPCs again.

What I'd also like to see that wasn't mentioned:

Continued awesomeness from the sound department and the music. I was never yanked out of the game by an odd noise or inappropriate mood music.

Cinematics: Besides a few instances where my Hawke displayed an action that I felt was not in character, the flow of the scenes and the camera angles were done very well. There was no moment where the camera focused on a person's forehead when we should have been looking at their entire face, etc.

I have played alot of games I have over 100 in my collection and I find alot of the designs are worse then dragon age Origins, I found alot of the character designs sloppy and ugly, specially the elves the Armour designs were terrible and don't get me started on the helmets and swords.

I liked some aspects of the voiced protaganist and how it would change to be funny/intimidating/diplomatic or whatever over time.

Other than that - DA2 was pretty much a downgrade in every single way. I still hate the redesign of the elves and the darkspawn on top of everything - but I won't get into that since that was not the point of this thread.

The corypheus boss fight, if we could get dialogue and banter like that during high intensity battles, that would be amazing. More banter in general is excellent.

Why does so many people want all the characters to be bi. To me it makes it unrealistic like how often is it that everyone you know is bisexual. I like the way they did it in ME3 where some character's where gay some where straight and some where bi. To me it's more real. Like Issabela made sense to be bi but so did zeveran (The Elf guy forget his name) But not everyone should.

All Bi means everyone can play out their romance with the character of their choosing. It's nice.

Also it kind of gives the game a nice feeling of no gender/sexuality prejudice. If you are appealing, people are going to be up for it, no labels etc. etc.

I can totally see why people like that.
