Losing ANY amount of gameplay because you couldn't make a save where you needed to is bad game design.

And I hate saying that about this game because otherwise its freaking stellar.

I welcome you then to 2000s! Where even Resident Evil games have checkpoints!...
I think last FPS/TPS allowed me to save anywhere I want was RAGE there is also Black OPS2 but not sure about this one.

I really did not like the save system either. I am an obsessive compulsive saver, so not having the option to save constantly made me feel like I had lost a functioning limb.

Mass Effect had it right, in my opinion. You can save whenever and wherever you want, as long as its not in the middle of combat.

I'd prefer that(with some autosaves and back up saves) to just playing the game and hoping you'll come across an auto save.

I didn't mind the autosave that much. I didn't lose any gameplay time, aside from a few enemies being alive again when Elizabeth brought me back from the dead.

In my mind, that's my bad for dying in the first place. Posted Image

I'm used to this type of saving and respawning anyway, from Borderlands 1/2. Heck, even Skyrim saves on area transitions. If you plan around those, 'tis no biggie.

Although not being able to create separate save files IS silly, admittedly.

Now I need to actually go back and finish the game. I wish I would have used my points and cash more wisely in this first run.

Really good game. 8/10 for me. The ending was really good :) not to beat a dead horse, but something games have been lacking lately. The game looks beautiful and the characters/story is excellent. Gameplay was kind of meh though. I'm prob gonna try 1999 mode next. Maybe I'll get more out of the gameplay then or (I'm just too spoiled from Dark Souls). That ending though man, I won't say any spoilers but that was trippy, sad and joy all at once.

It kind of has a different save anywhere built in though.  Unlike something like Dark Souls where you have master the section from campfire to campire, Bioshock Infinite has dead enemies that stay dead even if you die.  So the decreased save points don't increase the game's difficulty.  Really saves outside of autosave are somewhat unneeded in the game as even dying isn't really dying in that it's all explained by Elizabeth rezzing you back to where you were.  In other words, there's never any disconnect if you play through the game naturally and just rely on autosave for stopping points.

This is why I find it annoying though-

Yesterday when I left off right outside The Hall of Heroes, it was before Elizabeth and Booker had to go down and use Shock Jockey to get on the airship.

Entering and exiting the Hall of Heroes makes the game autosave. So I exited it, re-entered, and exited while I got my stuff together yesterday, and stopped outside.

Today as I got started, I had to refight all the bad guys I already took out yesterday that were outside the Hall. I was like what the hell, I already did this, why am I doing it again?

That is annoying. It might not bother me if I was playing on Easy, but I'm on 1999 mode, I shouldn't have to redo a fight I've already won.

^ They seem to respawn in each area after a certain amount of time, anyway. The timing might have just been right for them to show up again for you...?

They're pretty fast, and they'll get right up on you, so you might want something a little quicker to reload.

Though I'm gonna be totally honest, I found a spot I could stand on that was just out of the map, enough that the Handyman wouldn't fight me while I had free reign to shoot him in the fa- err, heart.

So yeaaah. NO REGRETS

I suspect there are probably more spots like that. You should start a list, as I assume you are likely to find more.  Posted Image

Well, the one that I found was in one of the corners of the map on top of some logs. You have to use the skyhook thing to get up, then jump on a ledge, then jump on to the logs, go far enough back that you're "out" of the map but still close enough to do damage, and make sure the Handyman followed you so you can shoot him.

Thats not very specific at all, but I'm sure someone else found it before me and knows what the hell I'm talking about. :P

Karma rears its ugly head though as I'm now at the second Handyman fight and goddamn it I just can't figure out how to put this dude down.

Though now that I said that I'll probably figure it out well easy this time through.

And surprise SURPRISE, I FIGURED IT OUT WELL EASY THIS TIME.

I respawned, and he was up top on a floating ship thing. I switched my RPG for a Sniper Rifle, looked up, prayed to the old gods and the new that he would take damage and not respond to it, and lo and behold, it was pretty much exactly like the first time.

Shot him in the heart till he died.

Pheeew.

I agree with this 100%. I freaking love this game, but they really should've let you save whenever you wanted to. Or at least make the checkpoints more often, freaking ridiculous.

Getting further and further through the game, the difficulty is ramping up.

Refraining from spending silver eagles(generally) so far seems to have been a good idea, if only so I haven't had to get kicked to the main menu.

This game gets so weird.. So fast. So they went into an alternate reality, while in an alternate reality... great..

Would that make Dark Souls badly designed?

I'd agree to that as you can only carry 2 of the many weapons, and it's better to get a feel for them all before going on a shopping spree. :P

Gameplay was kind of meh though.

It's enhanced from the original, but not a complete overhaul or a giant step in innovation.

They do abuse inter-dimensional travel rather eagerly when there are easier and more logical choices at hand.

As far as saves go, yes. Yes it would.

This is of course my opinion.

Speaking about the bloody save system, I'm trying to figure out what to do right now(I think I have to find a way into the Lutece's home? Could be wrong, but I did stumble onto what seems to be Lady Comstock's body in its resting place) and I want to figure it out so I can bloody save and STOP PLAYING TONIGHT.

But gah. If I stop now, I'm gonna be set WAY the hell back(since I've been in the part I'm in for a long time now).

Gaaaaah
