I see his points but I really don't think hes understanding the game.

I'm a little surprised over how... passionate players are over the events in the game. It's like ME3 2.0 as far as insults, threats, and flame wars go.
Its not even near the level of what ME3 was.

If anything, what Bio Infinite did was cause players from all over to discuss its ending, rather maturely. It caused conversation, it caused points and counter points. And nearly everyone is lauding the game and its ending.
ME3 on the other hand had a convoluted ending which caused pure outrage. Anger spilled everywhere, everyone got into the mix, and the game's reputation got tarnished because its ending became the joke of the gaming industry.
No way are the two similar.

Well he is right, Bioshock Infinite had more potential, but overall it is still a great game. I've spared myself of any hype and pre-release footage so I've only expected a fun, atmospheric shooter with a good story, and guess what I got?
I'm still underwhelmed about the textbook mindf*** ending, but somehow that didn't stop me to go for the 1999 mode and have a blast. Even managed to find those 3 missing voxophones.

I am playing the original now for the first time and in Arcadia. It is incredible. I think my eyes are going to get sucked out of my skull.

I am really tempted to give this game a try, because of every good things heard about it, and because the story does intrigues me. So I have to ask, is this game focused heavily on the story, or is it more focused on combat and the story is more of a background?
Because what stops me from buying it and give it a try is that I'm not into FPS. My favorite type of game would be a game like "The Walking Dead" where it's all about the narrative experience, with RPGs coming at a close 2nd rank. Personnally, action games/shooters are games I usually don't even try. I almost gave up on Mass Effect 2 because it was too much of a shooter to me, even more than Mass Effect 1, but stayed for the story. And while enjoying immensely Fallout 1 and 2, I couldn't finish Fallout 3 because the combat annoyed me way too much.
And please, do not take this as an attack to FPS. It is not. To each their own tastes. I'm just here because I'm debating whether I should invest my hard-won money on a game that I might end up dropping fast because it's way too much action oriented to me, despite an awesome story.

Bioshock Infinite is a mix of shooting and narrative. You can't really ignore the first since it's a central mechanic, but you can easily concentrate on the story and the world - looking for audio diares, listening to conversations or just simply observing, as many things are shown, but not specifically told.

Note: There are spoilers in this thread, and the more you experience in the game on your own the better since mystery is part of the first playthrough's appeal.
I know that, while I found the gameplay fun, it was, for me, completely secondary to the story. As I played through the game the hook was finding out more about Elizabeth and Columbia--not the next fight.
I also think that people that like the story won't be blocked by gameplay frustrations. Elizabeth will resurrect you in a safe spot whenever you die, and all downed enemies will stay down. So that makes the game easy (or zergable). It's like the game is telling you that it doesn't really care if you're good at shooters or not as it just wants you to play through its setting and story.

The combat could be better, but its good enough for what it is. You can't avoid combat, you'll have to go through with it, but put the difficulty on Easy and I'm sure you'll do just fine.

For anyone whose completed the game on 1999 (like LPPrince), what did you spec your points from infusions into? Right now I'm mainly focusing on increasing salts and shields. Also, is the crow trap upgrade worth it?
I'd recommend upgrading Devil's Kiss first. It's extremely helpful until you get one super powerful Vigor later in the game.
Agreed about Shield & Salts. Definitely upgrade them fully before you even touch Health upgrades.

Thanks for the answers, guys . That's very helpful
The fact that it doesn't shy away from violence isn't a bad thing for me, I like horror movies and would probably even play horror games if they weren't all FPS. And knowing that you can focus on the story without being blocked by gameplay frustrations, and that story is definitely the focus of the game: I'm definitely going to try it now. Good thing I managed to avoid any spoiler, even from this thread, because now I'm ready to be surprised and hopefully wowed by the story

For what it's worth I'm not a fan of FPS' either, as a matter of fact I would go as far as to say I hate them ( the only ones that I can stand are Bioshock 1, Bioshock Infinity, Portal and a few of the Halo's ), anyhow I loved Bioshock Infinite.
Bioshock Infinite is very heavy on the combat especially near the end where you fight waves and waves of enemies but this game also has a great story and tonnes of atmosphere. It's very easy to fall in love with Bioshock Infinite's world and it's characters, especially the two leads ( Booker and Elizabeth ), Elizabeth in particular is one of the best realised video game characters ever created. I like to take my time with games and it is not uncommon for a game of Bioshock Infinite's length to take me weeks/months to complete but I could not get enough of Bioshock Infinite's campaign, I finished it in a few days and I felt like there was big void in my life when it was over.

For the upgrades, what ratio of shield vs salt upgrades would you recommend? Also, what weapons should I stick with?

Beat 1999 mode yesterday with no deaths in my entire playthrough
I keep it even for all 3, starting with salts, then getting health and shields third. I ended the game with 8/8/9 although I am not sure how many infusions there are in total.
I personally only really only used crows against the handyman so I never bothered to upgrade it but I work with a couple guys who used it a lot who said it was very useful.

So later when I get them, should I upgrade Bronco and Charge? Never used them that much on normal but they sound useful in 1999.
Upgraded Charge is the most powerful thing in the game IMHO (provided you wear the proper gear). Definitely upgrade it as soon as you can.

In my "1999 - no dollar bill machine" playthrough I upgraded Posession as soon as possible. It's good for distractions and especially good to cast on annoying human enemies like the ones with RPGs, Volley Guns and such. Then I upgraded Charge to charge into enemies, get shield restoration and meleed most enemies. Well I used melee before a lot as well. My gear was Electric Punch (so easy to melee patriots and such because they get stunlocked), Executioner, Deadly Lungers (although I wanted Brittle-Skinned) and Vampire's Embrace.
I also used Bucking Bronco sometimes, mostly laying traps in choke points so I would not get flanked. I didn't upgrade any weapon until the late game and then I only got the damage boosts. I carried the Sniper Rifle with me most of the time because it is very effective and switched between Pistol, Revolver, Carbine and Machine Gun in the second slot, occasionally picking up something else for a few hits (RPG, Shotgun).
The only difficult part for me was the second Handyman fight inside the factory because for some reason I did not see the Charge upgrade at the machine. I always got killed by some mooks when fighting the Handyman. After getting the Charge upgrade the fight was easy.

Just play those games on easy. Shooter mechanics are made into nothing when you play those games on easy, it allows you to focus a lot more on the narrative/characters/lore etc...
Though I played Infinite on Normal, it's still very easy because of it's 'death mechanic.' Which is arguably similar to Planescape's, minus the starting from the very beginning.
