What more substantial evidence do you need? The title update borked the 360 version not the dlc. Chris said as much, also said the PC version would be release yesterday, (still waiting) and we've heard nothing since. We don't need a book, just to know weather it's worth sitting around waiting to see if the PC version will be out today or not.

I suspect BW has bigger concerns on their hands than putting out a DLC. Like fixing the fact that every 360 player who got the update yesterday (not just the ones who tried to get the DLC) had their game severely screwed up. Maybe you should just be happy you can still play DAO and not worry about a minor thing like DLC being delayed...

Because freeroaming games like Fallout survive on sidequests. If you ignore them and charge through the main plot you end up with a hollow 2-4 hour gaming experience.
DA:O on the other hand is driven forward by it's main plot.

Not true. A lousy side quest is a lousy sidequest.

Or what about the fact that no one at Bioware has mentioned anything about a patch for a critical error in the xbox 360 version of the game which corrupts your save files.

I know there is alot on the plate right now and I'm willing to wait.

I'm just wondering how it's possible that microsoft (Microsucks) manages to get all titles that come out either for xbox alone or have a port to xbox too? In my opinion a PC is still the best gaming platform because a PC is more versatile then an xbox and you can still run new games on sum older machines. When it comes to xbox, since they made the 360 variant no more games are made for the old xbox, every1 that has an xbox was forced to buy the new xbox 360 to keep up with the games. With a PC, you can enjoy games longer before needing to either upgrade or buy a complete new system then with game consoles.

Microsoft is strongly promoting the X-Box 360 in terms of new games. More than Windows PC, even if it appears a bit ironical. As long as my favourite games almost always see a release on the PC, I'll get the PC version. I have to admit though, that some titles start to itch me to get my hands on a X-Box 360 as well. (Bayonetta, Dante's Inferno to name a few.)

If bioware was smart, they'd only made DAO for the PC, problem solved when it comes to bugs on 1 platform and maybe no bugs on another in which case many players would have been able to enjoy RTO already buy now instead of having to wait because the xbox is unable to play it normaly and the rest just has to wait for it.

They won't do that (anymore). First of all, the console game market is growing faster than the PC game market. I'd also not surprised if especially ME2 will yield more revenue on the console version(s), than on the PC. Another reason is, that EA will have a say in this. And I'm 100% sure, that EA won't want to lose the opportunity to double total revenue compared to a solo PC release by not serving the console market.

I sincerely hope that gamedevelopers will ignore xbox for a change and stick to the PC only so a larger public can enjoy games. In our country almost every household has a PC by now but only half has an xbox or ps3 or whatever. They'd reach a greater public with PC only here.

With today's multimillion dollar budgets, especially raised marketing costs since more TV-commercials for computer games are made, it makes sense to port to any platform providing enough performance to play the game.

Sorry if I missed it, its a little difficult for me to sift through all the posts going back and forth (eg: "Bioware sucks!" vs. "I love Bioware!")...  I DL'd Return to Ostagar via XBox Live within the short window it was available, but have yet to load up Dragon Age.  Just had a couple of newbie questions -

1) Is the problem specialization bug caused by:

  • A) The Patch/Update released 1/13?
  • B) Return to Ostagar DLC?
  • C) Installing Both?
So like I said, I downloaded the DLC, but didn't turn Dragon Age yet, so the game hasn't updated with the patch.  So can I just skip the update (unplug the LAN cable) and play offline?  Or should I also delete Return to Ostagar and then play offline?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I posted a while ago in this thread and have seen two basic replies that may get to the heart of the problem.

1) "I just want what I paid for!" Fair enough! I do too. But, I didn't pay for a date and neither did you. If you believe you paid for a date, that is your problem, not Bioware's. You paid for a product. The fact that said product has been delayed is frustrating indeed, but it does not negate your payment of the product or the promise of said product. Again, if you believe you paid for a date, that's your problem.

2) "I just want transparency." I can certainly understand that. However, I believe you want a level of transparency that is not helpful and may even be harmful to Bioware. Do you want to know the specific problem (eg, Sten can no longer equip two handed swords)? If so, you won't get it because that opens up flaming wars and "advice" from people who think they know better. Is "transparency" code for timeframe? Maybe they do not know. Maybe they do and would open up more complaints about time not being met if that timeframe comes and goes.

Bottom line, you may be sick of people saying "What do you want from them?" and that's fine. That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying: "What you want from them is unreasonable"

It's unreasonable to ask that developers don't announce products (that sell on a system in which people may pay in advance) to be available in a matter of hours when, in fact, they won't be? Since customers can pay for the product before said product is procured for them... don't you think it behooves the producer to be quite honest and forthcoming about the timed availability of said product? Do you honestly think it's so hard for a software developer to tell if something is ready or not that they can be excused for making erroneous claims three-times-over and then withdrawing each claim VERY shortly before the claim is ready - despite people paying the producer money based ON these claims? It's not hard. Only for BioWare does it seem to be such a tricky concept. This isn't a pastry they're making, or an oil-painting. It's concrete. Ones and zeros, the quality of the product is finite, definite, and easily tested and affirmed. But I'm digressing: the quality of the product isn't what matters so much as the erroneous claims the producer has made over the product which HAS, in fact, resulted in sales for the product despite it's lack of procurement or the fact that the quality of the product is being drawn into constant question.

But to speak English, I gave BioWare money on the day they told me the product would be ready, and it turns out the product wasn't ready.. despite them having just took my money announcing the product... would be ready...
It's FUBAR, and as far as business ethics goes, you'd have to be crazy to find BioWare in the right on this. They're in the wrong, and getting wronger every second they delay in even telling me when their already-late-and-oft-paid-for product will be ready.

In my opinion.

I usually defend Bioware quite a bit as I love their games but this post is so spot on its not even funny. They flat out dropped the ball on this one as much as I hate to say it. The DLC is done, people have already played it and completed it with no issues. The title update itself to fix a 360 achievement issue for that particular sku is what screwed things up, NOT THE DLC. This title update does not apply to the PC version of DAO,

Sitting on the PC side of things, not to mention being absolutely silent on the matter while making posts to other topics on the forum is pretty much somewhat of a slap in the face to the community imo. I don't think asking for at least some explination as to why those of us waiting for the PC version are still being made to wait is so unreasonable.

Fender: Seems to me that Bioware is attempting to work in "real time" (for lack of a better phrase). Essentially, they are attempting to get products out as soon as they are ready. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a RELATIVELY new concept. With few exceptions, we've generally had to wait until a product was "in the store" whether that was retail or online, before purchasing it and playing it. Now, I'm no oldtimer who is out of touch. I realize DLC has been around. But, again, it's RELATIVELY new. In fact, releasing content for PC and consoles at the same time IN "real time" seems to be quite an undertaking. I say all this as a way to imply that the real world business/production side of this problem is not as easy as you imply.

On your other point, nobody held a gun to your head to buy the content before it was available. You have done so in order to receive it the minute it's available for download, correct? Well, it has not been available at the dates they've promised and I understand that's frustrating. However, why not wait until you actually see it before buying it? Will that assuage your anxiety? If so, please do. If not, you will need to accept the fact that things you think are simple are not and may cause unexpected problems.

Jinstar: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Xbox 360 issues stem from a Microsoft issue of incompatibility. I've seen some people get through and play the content, but I've also seen those same people complain about issues afterwards. It boils down to this: do you want a polished product or a bare-bones product? Seems you may want the bare-bones, but I don't really know. I'm a PC guy anyway and am speaking strictly to the PC issue on this matter.

I'm not sure if this has been posted, but a few posters on the first couple pages were expressing a desire to uninstall the Title Update.  On the Xbox 360, you can perform harddrive maintenance, and that will delete ALL Title Updates.  I'm not sure there's a way to do it on the PS3 or PC, though.

"HEXUS.gaming reports that a cache clear code has been discovered for
the Xbox 360 hard drive via the dashboard's system blade. To perform
the function, access 'memory' in the system blade, and then highlight
the hard drive. Now press: Y, X, X, LB, RB, X, X. The following message
should appear: "Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360
storage devices?"

If you initiate maintenance, the hard drive's
cache will be cleared, including all software updates. Theoretically,
this function could be used to un-update Oblivion in order to regain access to the unlimited gold and item duplication glitches. Note: we have not tested this function"
This still works in the NXE.

You are forced to download the updates again when you connect to Live with a game, so it won't restrict you from any other games you'd like to play.

Well, this is disappointing news. In fact, I think this is the first of the delays that has actually made me feel miffed. (I know it's Bioware, which I find in my thesaurus if I look up "awesome," but this is the third time we've been let down like this.) Upon some minutes of reflection, however, my attitude has shifted to feeling sorry for Bioware. Sure: I'm disappointed, but ultimately RtO will probably be one hour of gaming for me (just going by the length of Warden's Keep). For the people who have worked on it, however, it's weeks and weeks of labour. It must be far more disappointing for them not to be able to release it than it is for us not to be able to play it.

360 wasn't supposed to come out early. It came out early because a MS employee accidentally entered the release date as "january 14, 2009." Oh yeah, and the patch that was also released yesterday had a major bug that relocked all previously unlocked specializations AND made it so shutting down the game relocks any specs you unlocked a second time.

So before you start grouching about "oh my, I have to wait for DLC," be glad you can even play. 360 players cannot.

This isn't poor customer service. They've updated us as best they could. The PC version is being worked on and all versions have a bug which they are fixing. No company ever gives specifics about problems until they're done fixing it. Keep in mind that microsoft controls both the PC and xbox 360 versions, and as such Bioware is subject to -their- decisions. If you want to throw a fit and refuse to buy Bioware games, that's your loss. But don't accuse a company of handling this poorly when there's no evidence of that.

I disagree with that last statement and have already written lawyerly paragraphs as to how BioWare has been unethical in selling and marketing this particular piece of DLC. If you can't see the disrespect to customers, good for you.

I wonder how much BioWare made yesterday when they announced this DLC was ready for PC. Just a few dollars, right? <_<

Well, I'm done complaining, and I only complained because I did really like BioWare. Now they're just like any other to me. Which saddens me. It does.

I'm sure you have, but BioWare has no responsibility to you other than to give you the product you've paid for, which you will get. I don't see disrespect, I see a developer scrambling because of one mistake that wasn't theirs and another mistake that was. I'd still rather have them say nothing at all than give another date when they may or may not make that date.

And for what it's worth, my opinion about BioWare is that they seem to be one of the few companies that are still pretty actively involved in the player community. Faux outrage does nothing to endear customers to developers, and only makes them more tight-lipped in the future.

I get the feeling you really like to hang out on Valve's forums, but anyways your bug comment could be used to support consoles much more than the PC.  If you only develop on the PC you will of course only have bugs on the one platform but since PC specs vary from person to person you are likely to encounter even more issues than if you developed only for the xbox 360 or playstation 3 since all of those systems possess the same hardware, or at least to my knowledge.
And as far as the country statement, assuming you live in the United States if you don't please forgive me, while most of the people may indeed own a computer I am willing to bet a lot of these cannot meet the specs for the most recent games.  Anyways I hope they continue to develop on everything but find a way to step up the customer support, and I'm off to go play my NES.

How could they reach a larger audience by only offering the game for PC?  Releasing a game on multiple platforms generally equates to more units sold, because the target market for the game has increased.

for multi platform titles they tend to have different development teams for each platform due to the fact that they all use different programming language so it makes no difference if they ignore the consoles or not.

A console lasts 3-5 years you only pay for the console and nothing else if your pc can still play top end games after 3-5 years with no upgrades of any kind then you have one awesome computer and while most people may have a pc i would be surprised if more than 40-50% of them met the minimum specs for games like dragon age

This man speaks truth.

This is the first time BioWare has undertaken something of this scope, to my knowledge.  Cut the best game developer of all time some slack, will ya?

When it comes out, it's still going to make you happy.  You're still going to love it.  This is BioWare.
