I'm not sure if anyone at Bioware, Edge of Reality, or EA is aware of
this bug, but after I downloaded the title update for the Xbox 360
version around 1:00 AM on 01-13-10, all of the tactics presets don't
work.

Here's what happened.  I returned to camp, noticed that Morrigan, Sten,
Dog, and Shale all leveled, and proceeded to level up each character.
Well, they all received a new tactics slot, and since I use the tactics
presets (Scrapper, Archer, etc.) I went to look at what tactic filled
the new tactic slot.  Everything was fine until I changed the tactics
preset to see what my new options were.  When I changed to a new tactics
preset (from Scrapper to Defender, etc.) all of the tactic slots became
empty, even the preset I just came from was empty when I returned
to it.  However, the Custom preset still has all the tactic slot from filled accept the new one.

I have not left camp or entered any battles, so I don't know if the
tactics presets still work even though all the tactic slots appear empty,
or if my companions will just stand there and do nothing.

Considering the title update was ONLY supposed to fix the DLC
achievement glitch, I'm wondering how this happened and what else may
have been broken by this title update?

I don't know if they are aware of it either, but I had that problem before RtoO.  I hate doing it, but I just have to rely on making custom over and over.Image IPB

I got the update AND RtO, I didn't have any problems. RtO was a little short, but I didn't expect much for $5. I'm hoping Awakening is closer to the length of a full game and actually comes out as scheduled.

wait until you power off and restart DAO and level up... I thought mine was ok too initially, then I leveled up and noticed all my specs locked.

My character is level 20, nothing to unlock, unless you're telling me that the specs I already put points into aren't going to work.

cant really comment as not sure how many specializations you have unlocked and if it is your 1st playthrough etc. Im on my 4th playthough and have unlocked all the specializations, but after completing RTO with my lvl 11 Warrior and reaching level 14, i noticed that I only had Berserker unlocked, all my other specializations eg Champion, Reaver etc are locked. Im assuming this is true to all my other unlocks such as arcane mage too. Just hope they manage to fix this bug, as I really dont wish to have to restart from scratch.

Yup I had this problem too, but this is minor compared to the specializations locking issue, so I closed an eye over it... doesnt really affect gameplay that much so its acceptable to me.

I thought the PC version was supposed to come out yesterday, Jan 13th 2010?

Nope, I think this was wishful thinking on their part. One of two scenarios occured with the DLC:

A) The bug is present on the PC version as well so they pulled their statement of a 13th release date or;

B) The withdrawal of the Xbox version has delayed the PC release as well so that they are released as close to each other as possible.

Either way, they need a new dedicated team of DLC staff, because this many problems for so little content is pretty horrendous. One could be forgiven for thinking that the project was staffed by unpaid, amateurs working in their spare time.

I was taking a short break from my Dragon Age adventure anyway to play some other games. I'm trying to replay all of Mass Effect 1 in time for the sequel!

i had the same problem once before RtO but it somehow fixed it self, i only noticed when Wynne stopped healing during combat...

I would try reloading the most recent save, if its not too far back and see if it does it again.

I agree that it doesn't matter whose fault it is. It was a mistake. They happen.

But I think the use of "unexpected" to describe the 360 release in the message in the original thread sort of implied that MS had jumped the gun, which started all of the conjecture from players.

Hope burns eternal. Patience burns at both ends of the candle. Not for me though, as I stopped using candles. So my patience is a bulb. One of the nice ones that lasts for a while. Plus, when that bulb overheats I just move on to the cooling waters of doing something else. Playing ME1 over again to get the ideal playthrough is a wonderful example.

I have the PS3 verision, but from what I can piece together the whole story is the: After being delayed after the holidays Return to Ostergar was supposed to come out January 5th for PC and XBOX and the PS3 would come out later in the month. Next thing we know XBOX gets an update, then the DLC magically appears on XBOX LIVE. Then the plot really thickens the patch actually ruins the game even if you did not dl Return to Ostergar? I hope the story has a happy ending.

It was the DLC or Burger King and now I am sadly lacking a game and a Tendercrisp.

Epic!

I personally have no feelings about this delay. We will get this next time. But I feel so darn sad for Prosercunus that I want to cry :'(

How long did this patch take them... 3 months, I read somewhere here?
And in all that time, all that 'em Dev guys were able to accomplish was to bug the game even more (to the frustration and disbelief of an entire gaming community I'm sure).
Oh well, I'll be back in... July (6 months, roughly 2 patches) and see how the game has 'evolved'.
Thanks Dev Team!
<< Do notice I don't have a picture. It's because of a bug in the game lol

given a choice, I would rather the DLC be delayed than downloading a DLC that screws up big time.

I guess this is a good idea. Might dedicate the evening to that to steam down a little...

I'm really hoping that Chris gives us some detailed news before the end of the day though. Patience is wearing a tad thin, this side of the pond.

This is really outrageous. I appreciate that people are patient, but I am not. I bought this game instead of Brutal Legends. Now I regret that decision. This game was playable until the patch, now it is thoroughly broken. I wan't to know how they are going to make it up to me or rest assured I will NOT be buying Mass Effect 2 or any EA/Bioware games in the future. How on earth do you release a game, and then patches, without testing them adequately. This is not a small easily missable bug. Somebody at Bioware should have caught this turd before it went on live. I already have to go through the stupid EA login crap, Now they break my game? Completely unacceptable....

I agree that it doesn't matter whose fault it is. It was a mistake. They happen.

But I think the use of "unexpected" to describe the 360 release in the message in the original thread sort of implied that MS had jumped the gun, which started all of the conjecture from players.

I was on when all this stated very early yesterday morning. on the old RTO thread x-box 360 players were saying that they were able to purchase the DLC and download it , and that the date it stated on x-box live was January 14th 2009. Obviously a major typo by MS that must have told their delivery system that the DLC should already be available therefore people were able to download it.

People started commenting on it that were able to play it David Gaider came on without having his first coffee and thought people were talking about the leaked version that was prohibited talking about. After some clarification David realized something happened. After some silence Chris came forward with the statement that MS unexpectedly released RTO today, and that they would try to get the DLC out to PC users yesterday, and Ps3 users at a later date.

The achievement and specialization bug was commented on many times by x-box users , and MS locked down the downloads of the DLC later that day, and despite Biowares best efforts the DLC was delayed again and x-box downloads were stopped because of the bug. Now Bioware is trying to fix the DLC, and fix the mess the Ms new years typo caused.

This is a condensed version of all that happened yesterday but those are the facts. So it was not the fault of Bioware in this they tried to make the best of a bad situation. Did MS launch on purpose, most likey not it was a near years typo we all make when a new year happens. After that the computer system that impliments the downloads is only as good as the person typing in the commands. So it was human error But I don't think it was done malisiously at this point.

One thing though I do feel there is a curse, black cloud or something over this DLC. lol:devil::D

If you have not played, clear your cache and disconnect your Internet before firing up DAO. If you do this, you might be OK. If you have played DAO after the glitched patch, clear your cache, disconnect your Internet, and start a new playthrough. You will have to re-unlock all the specializations, but you should keep them unlocked across play-throughs.
