Well since apparently I can't make threads here without being insulted and being somehow related to Blizzard and EA, how are you guys planning on fixing the specializations?

if you check a few posts up there are two posters who claim to have found a workaround for your problem.

I will continue to wait patiently for a "repair" patch for my specializations.

You don't need to wait.

Just delete your cache, load your game exit to dashboard and load again.

They should all be restored.

Also, I just shut off my 360 and they were still back when I loaded my game again.

Am I to guess that you did not reapply the patch then?  While this may be a fix the game will not let you play offline with some DLC, that being the items gained from Dragon Age Journeys in my case.

I chose not to delete my cache.   Perhaps if they haven't released a new patch within a week I will go that route.  There are enough games that I enjoy that I can "survive" not playing DAO for a little while.  Though I have to say that I miss it already.

The claims are just claims. One cannot delete the download if the game itself is installed on the hard drive, because the "update" overwrites files that are part of the original game. Ergo, nothing to delete. It does not show as a separate file in my system menu.

this is a game breaking glitch. Wish someone had warned me first. Never would have considered having to check the forum before installing an update.

You cannot see updates as files you have to clear your game cache to remove them, it has nothing to do with having your game installed on the hard drive.

I totally agree with you on the I.Q. Thing now btw.

So clearing your cache works huh? Isn't the patch necessary for the DLC? Or is that just balogney too?

The game allowed me to acces all DLC except for the items related to Dragon Age Journeys.  When trying to load a character with one of those items equipped it immediately returned me to the main menu, otherwise everything else was fine.

Nope, apparently the DLC works fine even without the patch, the only consequence of clearing your cache is that it could waste a decent portion of your time reinstalling all of the updates for all of your games.

I think in the long run you have to realize. . . its a game (a great game, but a game never the less) Now would I have been happier if it had been released on time and with no bugs? Sure! And while I am not a betting man I would wager that would have made Bioware happier as well. Now the only question is will they ultimately get the release out and fix the issues? There again in the not so distant future (a week maybe even a month is still relatively a short period of time) I am betting yes. My only real critique to how they handled the situation, was having no formal notification that it had been delayed on the website itself so I would not have to come to the forums and sort through literally hundreds of whining posts.

Had a thought:

BioWare needs to compensate some of us, I feel. I think anyone who purchased BioWare points thus far in the month of January did so under false pretenses put out there by none other than Chris's own posts.

I don't want compensation, I just want acknowledgment that they messed up in communicating with their customers, which resulted them in getting money off of customers they might not have otherwise received. And so, they should take every purchase of BioWare points made thus far in January and donate that equivalent amount of money to Red Cross. Chris can make a post saying something like:
"Sorry. Whether it was my fault alone or not, I told you customers that such a product would be available when, as it turned out, it wouldn't be, and so we received numerous purchases of BioWare points obviously meant towards a product that does not yet exist. Perhaps some Points were meant for other DLCs, but regardless, due to my/our carelessness, I have decided to compensate our customers with a substantial donation to support Red Cross's efforts in Haiti. Basically, any BioWare points purchases made thus far in the month of January will be met, cent-for-cent, in donations. Thank you for your patience."

Then I might actually have a decent outlook on the guy, instead of seeing him as a corp exec who likes to promote his wares haphazardly with little regard to the wares' existence, readiness, or quality.

I know it won't happen, it was just a daydream. A how-the-world-should-work sort of thing.

EDIT: And purchases of the 360 version of RtO should be thrown into the donation as well, since those customers downloaded a patch that broke their game. Seems fair to me.

So I removed the update and started a new game. Now Bodahn does have the books, so it looks like if your willing to replay the, or just start over and go out to get the specialties they will be there. I don’t know about saving and turning off the xbox, and still having them, but it should be a good sign that the books are appearing.

Also I have the RTO DLC and I am having no problems with it.

IMO I think most people care a littttttle bit more about additional content than a little achievement that only serves to further your self esteem.

If that was true we wouldn't still be waiting for RTO because they wanted to add achievements last minute.

The patch won't show up in file system, but that doesn't mean it isn't a separate file.  To remove it, you have to clear the cache.

guys, seriously give bioware a break, do you have any idea how difficult it would be to release a product on three separate platforms simultaneously, and then correct bugs that might occur on one platform etc. The core game is still fricken marvelous, the other DLC was great too, a bit of patience why they obviously sort out an issue that also irritates and annoys them as developers.

do you think they dont want to give you the product at the stated release date? OF COURSE THE DO. now get off your high horse and stop complaining

To Havaror and anyone else worried about clearing the cache.

since the update has been removed from Live, you can clear the cache and still play the game on Live. all your DLC should be able to work.

Your heart is in the right place, but the whole carelessness on priestly's part is extremely unfair. He's a single cog in the machine that is Bioware. They were forced into an unfortunate situation with the unexpected xbox release, then had to scramble to pick up the pieces when everything fell apart. I think a donation made by Bioware would be an excellent idea, but putting all of the blame squarely on Chris' shoulders simply because he posted the bad news is cruel.

Do they deserve a break? Chris Priestley posted immediately that the PC version will be coming out shortly on January 13, 2010 after the xbox version went live unexpectedly but decided to yanked it yet again for the third time after finding out new issues ergo the PC version (windows) is ready and is just waiting there lying cozy until xbox (windows) is certified for simultaneous release.

They deserve a permanant break. Are you sure you can't find at least 5 qualified people to replace the one incompetant person you are replacing in this economy?

So I go to a fine dining restaurant that I made a reservation for because it is my anniversary and I am first  made to wait at the door because there was a minor misunderstand. I am not thrilled but 10 minutes of wait is not too much. 30 minutes later, the receptionist informs me that my table is still not ready, but is incapable of telling me when it will be or what is the delay. Finally an hour after my reservation, I am invited to sit. I accept the house wine and order my food, but whilst the food is being cooked the wine turns out to be rotten and spoil my appetite, great start. I feel for my companion so I await for the food, however the orders are mixed up and in order to eat together everything is held down in the kitchen. After another 30 minutes of bread, the waiter tells me in the passing that there are some issue and they will bring the food when it is ready.

Quick test, what do you do: Say "oh, it is so hard to coordinate a fine restaurant, I understand it must be difficult to perfectly time and cook the orders and ensure that the wine is not spoiled" (get off high horse?) or do you get upset and demand to know what the heck is "fine" about this dining and want to give the floor manager a good scolding?

(This should be taken humorously, but come on, it is not our fault if they bit more than they can chew, and we are so nice we will be understanding, if they would just open up a bit and handle communication better)

Someone is going to come in and tell you how you cannot compare fine dining to producing a DLC. Just like being late on a DLC dateline is not the same as being late on a work dateline. etc etc.

That's the price the spokesperson pays.
In my mock-Chris statement, I did try to word it so that Chris wasn't completely taking the blame. I don't blame him solely. Well... maybe I do. But that's because it was his name on the post that told me it was safe to assume that RtO would be available in a matter of hours. Sucks to be the spokesperson, but most spokespersons understand the levity of their job and take precautions, rather than throwing out information into the wind that could result in people feeling ripped-off.

I know, it is meant to be reductio ad absurdum.

The main point is the same: the situation is not being handled well. They released a patch that broke the game for quite a few users, and communication is not as good or as effective as it should be. People dismissing this as "poor Bioware this must be hard" are forgetting that they are a business and they need us to be demanding in order to improve, like any company on any industry. I can be understanding without spoiling them, and I don't think it is fair to tell people who bought something they cannot play to get off their high horse, that's all.
