I kid you not!
You can unlock specializations (again!) on your play thru and level up and be that class but your companions have their specializations still locked: e.g. my Mage can be an Arcane Warrior but the other mages cannot. Their specialization tree is locked while mine is not!
Thus, it seem like playing DA:O with RtO installed has majorly screwed your game and until this mess is sorted I will suspend playing this game.
I can understand why RtO as a dlc has been temporarily withdrawn. This decision may ****** some of you off but, seriously, peeps, look at the alternative as I have outlined above.
By withdrawing RtO, the inconvenience to gamers is minimized (altho' to the many who have d/l RtO this will not impress).
For those impatient peeps who want RtO but cannot d/l until it is fixed, consider yourselves fortunate that your DA:O game playing experience is unaffected. I paid (like so many others) 400 MS point to have my game screwed!
You guys can wait patiently to get another 90 mins of DA:O fun when RtO is eventually fixed but for the rest of us that have RtO will have to wait just to get our games back to the status quo!
As far as I can make out this only affects XBOX 360 users but no doubt the PC/PS3 versions will be withheld similarly as a precaution because when the next time RtO is finally released, it WILL have to be beyond reproach or MS/EA and most particularly Bioware's credibility as competent game producers among the community will be seriously compromised.
It's this sort of bad deal for the customers that can take the shine off any "awards" DA:O may have been accredited with. In short, RtO is a PR disaster.
I can only hope that The Awakening, due out this March (we'll see) is released without the adverse publicity RtO has suffered.

I noticed that playing DA:O with RtO installed (as is) causes any and all specializations to lock up even after they have been unlocked!
It was the title update that did that, not RTO, from what I've read. Apparently clearing your cache will remove the update, but I've seen some say you have to delete all your saves and start over to get them unlocked again, and others have said just clearing it fixed it for them.

a user was just banned from Dragon Age Nexus because they boasted of having an illegal copy of Return to Ostagar (PC).
exactly the reason why the PC version should have been released on time.
Like somehow they just.... don't want peoples money. Like this was done on purpose, what, to promote complaining on the forums? I'm sure that's a lot more valuable than taking my money in return for their product.
I realize you're frustraited. I understand, I empathize! I have 0 interest in consoles. I have an absolutely rockin' computer that I update around every 6 months. It's a sexy, sexy beast of a machine and it aches in a delightfully unwholesome manner for new games and new content. When Assassins Creed II for the PC got pushed back my inner child threw a massive tantrum.
I want to play RtO and give BioWare my money, just like everyone else. Making sweeping and baseless assumptions though that for some illogical and inexplicable reason they just decided to hold off releasing it for, what, giggles? Makes no sense. They want it up more than you do.
i have made no "sweeping or baseless assumptions".
the PC is ready and working and already "out there".
a person was just banned from Nexus because they boasted of having it.
when i use the word "fake", by that i mean "not genuine", which unless it is the "actual" release date will remain so.
and Bioware already has my money for this DLC, more fool me.

This is probably what's the worst with all of this for BioWare. The bad PR.

If you have concerns about the behaviour of a particular poster, you can use the "report this post" or contact a moderator (listed at the bottom of forum pages). That is more constructive than posting it about it on the open forum.
Since this thread isn't going to be locked, I'll restate previous guidelines for this forum: discussion of piracy, Spam, attacks and insults against other community members are all not permitted on these forums.
Just to clarify, I assume me mentioning that the RtO illegal download has seemed to work without issue is not really discussing piracy? I am not endorsing it at all, and I will be paying for the dlc. And I guess as long as the insults aren't continuous, the odd insult here and there is permitted?

Nice to know the Moderator reads these threads. Is there going to be any announcement or update on the status of RTO for the PC today?
I thought the mods were just regular people, not Bioware employees? Or am I wrong? If so, they wouldn't have a clue about announcements

BUT..when they noticed they did pull it, so the blight (hoho) didn't affect that many people, and if the 30min time scale is true then they did react very very quickly (so well done), plus I'd rather wait, ( as annoying as it is) for a dlc so when it comes out it isn't rushed, and matches the quality of the original game..after all thats why you buy it!
Bioware has made some of my fave games, so I will keep the faith...
Ps, is the fix ready yet?

Or complain how it wasn't worth $5. Or maybe if the 30/pc crowd get it first we can all talk about the ps3 as the 'inferior' option?
Regardless, there will be SOMETHING to talk about I am sure

well I guess win2000 was never really designed as a consumer product. It really was a slightly prettier NF4. People only used it because ME was so bad. But yes, it didn't really like humans. It was like the ultimate hermit who reluctantly gets taken out by it's friends and then sits in the corner sulking all night.
Yeah, I am speculating. A product of Bioware not telling us anything. Although it is quite logical in most respects. Lots of people are playing RtO on pc. A number of my friends are. Not one has had a single issue with it. It has been acknowledged that the title update caused the 360 problem, not RtO. On the balance of those 2 pieces of information it would seem logical that pc users could have access to the dlc. Yet they are not. What are the potential reasons? It can't be Sony because they weren't going to get it at the same. MS is a definite possibility because all the releases so far have been tied to the same day. or it could be something else we don't know about. Fact remains that Bioware won't tell us because it has the potential to turn into an even bigger issue;so we speculate.
As I said in another post. I couldn't care less if the RtO wasn't released until the expansion as I love the game as it is. I am getting more than enough enjoyment out of it, and 30 minutes or so isn't going to have any real world impact on my impressions of the game. I guess as a pc user I am lucky though that if there are any smaller issues they can generally be worked around by user mods.
And lol, yes you are pretty much right.
holy crap. Did I just see someone conceed a point... on a forum?
Don't get me wrong. I've been wrong before and it's not just that you're agreeing with something I said that makes me say it but just seeing someone maturely conceed a point on a forum isn't something that happens very often.
You are a gentleman and a scholar, sir! I salute you!
Personally I'm taking the tactic of telling anyone from BioWare who posts that they are smart and pretty and whatever else they want to hear if it will keep them motivated to crank out DLC and expansion. I will happily pimp out my pride for DA:O content.
