What is the big deal about Final Fantasy? I never liked that series, and I have tried to play a few, including 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10 and I never could get into it. I always preferred Phantasy Star 1-4, and Suikoden 1-4.

Different strokes for different folks. IMHO everything after 6 has been a disapointment.

Lots of romance, great character progression, great characters overall, plot twyst galore and a deep plot. That's exactly what was missing in XII by the way.

The reason why I like DA:O so much is that, despite being a western RPG, it still picks up a lot in story depth and character interaction from japanese ones.

It is the pioneer console RPG in terms of Visuals, and story.  I can honestly say that final fantasy 6 set the standard in how RPG's should be made on the console given the length, characters, gameplay and story.  Suikoden is also a great game but does not have no where near the fanbase as Final fantasy, especially since most grew up playing those games.   And aroud the time FF7 came out, it was the most visually stunning game out there on all consoles.

Some people think Baldur's Gate 2 is crap... thats just how it works. People like diffrent things, and only I'm right.

Suikoden 3 started the downfall and suikoden 4 put the nail in that series coffin



As for the FF series i'm shocked everyones saying (quite accurately) FF6 was the best, i'm used to stupid kids going on bout how FFX was the best and they never played a FF game before that, little hooligans *shakes cane at them*



Though while FF6 is the best, i will give FF7 credit as the last great FF main series game(fans ruined FF7's legacy though), FF8 pretty much destroyed the series (and squaresoft thanks to inspiring the spirits within disaster) though i did enjoy FF11 had the best plot & charecters of the ps2 generation (not too shabby for an mmo)

Final fantasy is great but not for everyone who likes rpgs, especialy console haters(i just prefer pc in most cases). I think its great,for me VIII(not VII like most) was the best FF experience, but when final fantasy xii came out i had no intereset, so the last time i played final fantasy is almost 8 years ago...

Right and I am not talking about the Crystal Chronicles or Crystal Defenders all the spin-offs,(except Dissidia) I was mainly referring to the core series.

Xenogears was good and well-received by critics so its not that underated

Okay, fair enough. to all comments. I think Suikoden and Phantasy Star have Final Fantasy edged out for story, but that's a matter of preference. I really think that's what turned me off of Final Fantasy was the story, and I cite the incomprehensible ending to Final Fantasy 1 (when you have to explain what happens at the end of a game's story 3 times during the end sequence, there's a problem) and the entirety of Final Fantasy 8. Suikoden was in-depth and grand without being over-the-top, Phantasy Star was a twist on the traditional "ancient evil that rises again" formula that actually worked, and Dragon Age is also deep without overdoing anything. Final Fantasy strikes me as far too over-the-top for my tastes, but that's me.

I only half-agree with this.  3 was okay, but not great.  I really enjoyed 4.  I thought it was different enough to be fresh and entertaining, but still felt familliar.  Nothing will beat Suikoden 2, though.  Cooking mini-game FTW!!

The later installments of the FF series i agree with you on (except FF11, that was more classic style)  though i never found the suikoden games to have  terribly interesting plot, i do enjoy it's many colorful charecters (3rd game easily has my fav collection of cast members) phantasy star i never did into despite owning most of them @__@;  think by that time i found Final Fantasy 4 (or FF2 in the US) and it was love ever since~! (til FF8...)
