I'm getting back into the game and just purchased these. Without spoilers, when is the best time to start and complete them?

I found that playing it right after rannoch so you have your full team is alot better than starting straight from the cerberus coup

depends who you want on the main mission and who you want in the party photo. It will take 9 old main squad mates, mainly the ones who actualy had conversation cutscenes unlike zaeed and kasumi as they were dlc missions aslong as you have had contact with them in 3.

So in theory you could have thane or jack if you do it early enough as the more people you unlock that the major players take priority. You dont have todo the party right away and you dont have to worry about the invite and meet missions as they recycle as you complete a batch.

I would highly suggest waiting until you have found everyone before the picture as otherwise you will be missing people but there are differences at the party, for example if you do it rather early and have jack unlocked, jack and cortez will flirt like mad but if you do it at the end they wont.

I think it's better complete them after you have re-encountered all the ME2 crew. After all, when you do this, it will not be just after the Cerberus coup attempt or before the end of the game.

This. Leviathan fits nicely between Rannoch and Thessia. Citadel is best if you have met everyone, so I'd play it after Santuary. While the main plot is pretty urgent after Thessia/Santuary, the Normandy needing repairs and Hackett ordering shore leave for Shepard after quite horrible missions are good reasons to play Citadel at this point. You can also just reason that the fleet needs some time to prepare for the Cerberus HQ mission.

Thanks for the responses. So, it sounds like the citadel DLC changes depending on when you start it?

The actual plot doesn't change. But there is a lot of character interaction afterwards that only happens with characters whose missions and meetings in the main game you've already completed. You could do Citadel earlier and do some of this character content later, but you'll miss out on some things this way.

I'm curious about this too as I'm planning to do a new playthrough with Citadel installed.  If you do Citadel early enough, can Thane and Mordin be part of it?  Seems like you would miss some character interaction regardless of when you do it because there's never a time when all of the characters are available at the same time.

Citadel dlc can only be done after the Citadel coup and one way or another by then Thane will be out of the picture(although he does have an extra "cameo" if you romanced him and no one else since).  Mordin will also not appear physically as this takes place after Tuchanka, and at best he will be in hiding.

Citadel - Before Cronos Station

Leviathan - After Priority Rannoch

And I'll throw Omega in - After Citadel Coup, I like to think of this DLC as a counter strike for the coup attempt

Leviathan can be played at any time and fit really.

However I'd wait 'til after Tali joins and you've done Miranda's mission. Without giving spoilers the more (ex)-squad mates you meet/complete the better.

Citadel DLC --> "Finish" the game (assuming you did the Destroy option) Load back the save and pretend it's the head canon ending. Might need a bit of an imagination, but it worked for me. This is assuming that you didn't like the ending at all.

Actually I second this. :?
This is what I'm doing on my next play through.
This is the "True" ending DLC (or the closest we'll get).

Omega after Citadel Coup, Leviathan after Thessia and Asari Monastery, Citadel DLC before Cerberus Base. Seemed to work flow better with the story this way.

I do leviathan after rannoch and the citadel DLC right after. Yeah I miss out on some Miranda content but I don't like her. She's annoying and complains about her sister too much. I just feel like everything Is too dire after thessia mission

Depends which parts of Citadel you're playing. The story itself can fit anywhere after the Coup - best after Rannoch probably. But the party should take place right after Sanctuary so you have the full crew for the party and farewells. Otherwise, you can spread out your dates after the mission.

Same with Leviathan - you can spread it out. But it should start anytime after you do the Monastery mission so you have a proper introduction to the Banshees. Meeting with Ann on the Citadel should take place after Thessia however.

I think its best to split the content from these DLCs throughout the game. Meet with Dr Bryson before you do Tuchanka and finish the last mission near the end of the game. I usually do it right after Sanctuary. The mission part of the citadel dlc can be done pretty much at any time. Either after the coup or after rannoch seem like the best times to me though. I think its best to do the party right before Cronos station.

I spread Leviathan out as well. You visit the lab 3 times and you have 3 combat missions, one after each lab visit. These six missions do not have to be played in a row, you can spread it out over your entire playthrough.

I think I started after Palaven and played the last mission after Thessia. There is a discussion on Thessia that doesn't fit the knowledge of Shepard at that point in time if you already completed Leviathan, so I would play the last mission of Leviathan after Thessia.

What's funny actually is that Shepard says just this during Traynor's game tornament if you play it at this time and pick the paragon dialouge option. He backs up Traynor saying she is helping the Alliance prepare for the final asault on Cerberus. Nice touch I thought. :)

Levi during - Citadel during but since it's sort of a meta-DLC that somewhat expects you to have completed the game already I would also suggest after.

I was wondering about that... I've started the party already and I had Kaidan, Samara, Liara and Kolyat (for Thane's funeral) come over separately at the apartment, while I've met Jacob, Zaeed, Kasumi and Joker over on the Strip.  Now I couldn't understand why I wasn't getting any other meetings with the rest of the crew so I sent out the invites and started the party. Is it too late to meet the rest of the crew separately?

Also, I think Tali wasn't at the party (but she was at Thane's funeral and available during combat) even though by the time I started the DLC she was back on the Normandy (didn't do the Geth Dreadnought mission before the DLC though).
Oh, well... there's always my next playthrough.

I did all of Citadel after Sanctuary, and that was too much content. The missions don't really depend on having your full crew (with the exception of Tali). My next play through I plan to do Citadel early to take advantage of the Arena, and to do the player meet and greets a little at a time following missions. I will save the party until right before Chronos, since the speech at the end really feels like an "ok let's do this" speech.

I did all the content after Sanctuary, but I noticed that the invites come in a few at a time.  So theoretically, you could do some of the meet and greets, then as new characters become available, like Miranda, her invite will arrive.

I don't know it works this way though, so I will find out during my next play through.
