Male. Saren, Loghain, TIM, Irenicus, Sarevok, TNO, Darth Malak, hell, even Diablo(2).

I don't remember a female antagonist half as cool.

Off the top of my head: Kerrigan, Shodan, GLaDOS

Female, cause DAO was male (Loghain), DA2 was none, so to make even we need an evil girl (I aint countin that chantry girl since she was dead half way through the game)

then please name anything thats mature that doesnt have some form of villain as a driving plot, and techincally Meredith wasnt evil, she was more driven from a past(and recent incidents) as well as her job to control mages, where as most villains cause destruction because they like it or wants to get rid of someone of importance(protagonist), and nothing can change their minds

Emma by Jane Austen
The plague
Any movie where a force of nature is destroying people's lives.
Black Swan
Into the Wild
apollo 13
Life of Pi

Any book or movie can be mature when a situation is the conflict, or even yourself. Every story needs conflict but it does not necessarily need to come from another person

Dragon Age has had plenty of diverse villains, let them mix it up.

Let that not be said villains are a bad thing, of course we will have them as games like this don't really work well without them. But I do like the villains being a bit gray and not black as night evil.

Bioware makes good villains and I trust them, male female doesn't really matter I will leave it to what suits best.

As long as they are a good villain, I don't care. Personally, I hope there isn't a main villain for DAI, but rather numerous sides which you can pick, and that it doesn't end up like DA2 were everyone is a hypocrite lunatic no matter which side you choose.

Might as well stick to male villains, they're safer. No one complains when men are depicted in a negative way.

I thought Meredith was great. There was no play on her gender at all, which was fine by me. I think up to now they have had a nice variety with the DA villains. If we get more of the same depiction, whoever they have will be great.

For villains in general, I would like another Aribeth from NWN. She started out as a good NPC that we had a great deal of interaction with and then became a villain (sort of) later on because of stuff that happened. It was quite a surprise to me.

I like my villains driven by what's between their ears, not what's between their legs their chromosomes, so I don't care as long as they're well-written, multi-dimensional and worthy of interest.

My first reaction was 'FEMALE', since I tend to really like female antagonists. (Hell, I even rooted for Meredith.)

But then I remembered that I loved Loghain as well, so...I don't care, as long as the 'villain' is well-written and has a motivation that's easier to sympathize with than 'ruling the world muahahaha'.

Anyone suggest an hermaphrodite yet?

A post-op transsexual perhaps?

Or a lung fish?

Why does there need to be a villain? There must always be an antagonist, but an antagonist doesn't need to be evil or a villain, they are just pushing the story along for the protagonist.

I would like Dragon Age 3 to be more mature than a 10 year olds cartoon about good guys and bad guys.

then please name anything thats mature that doesnt have some form of villain as a driving plot...

The Things They Carried
The Sound and the Fury
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
Of Human Bondage

Actually, I'd suggest that a large number of mature stories do not have villains, and even those with villains often don't have them driving the plot.

What if it's a giant golem in the shape of a cuttlefish... or MANY giant golems in the shape of cuttlefish hellbent on destroying all the nations of Thedas!

That is so original. I deserve a job.

The archdemons are male though.

I thought at least one of the archdemons/Old Gods was female? I can't remember if that was the one we fought, though...

As for the villain... I don't care what their gender is, so long as they're written well, and I've liked all of DA's villains so far... I wouldn't even call the 100% villains, as they all have their motivations and are understandable in one way or another, if you agree with them or not. None of them have been purely evil for the sake of evil.

The main 'villain' in DA:I might not even be human, for all we know...

I would rather the chief enemy be an it where its sex doesn't matter.
