I purchased and installed Dragon Age Origins yesterday. I played for about an hour or two and then stopped. I resumed today only to discover that every time I load a saved game a black screen appears and the game freezes and it freezes my computer. Either that or my computer just reboots on its own. If it becomes locked I can't do anything so I have to reboot each time. I can get to the main screen every time and I can go through all the options but as soon as I try to load any game the loading screen comes up and either it freezes or reboots there or my game actually loads and after about 3-7 seconds of me moving around it reboots or locks up. I have different saved games and I tried each one, thinking it was a problem with the game saved. Some saved games play for a while but then either lock up or it reboots. My computer is fairly new (I built it myself).
Here are my specs:
OS: Windows 7
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 3870
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450
Hard Drive: 551 of 596 GB free
I have tried everything I can think of. I have no problems with any other games that require hardware acceleration.
Here is what I have done in order (I tried playing after I did each item):
Tried different saved games - some go on longer than others but eventually they all freeze or reboot.
Tweaked the settings on Video options - turned everything off and or down to low and everything in between
Installed Dragon Age 1.2 Patch
Re-installed current ATI HD 3870 Video Card Driver Patch for Win 7
Uninstalled Dragon Age Origins and rebooted
Re-installed Dragon Age Origins
Ran 2 different video card testers - a video card stability tester and a burn in test - both where good
Ran other Games at the highest settings to see if they had problems to - Sins of a Solar Empire, (Tried Crysis and CC&C 4 before) - no problems
I even started all over from the beginning and after a while it did it again
Not sure what to do next.
Dragon Age Origins Keeps freezing my computer upon or soon after loading saved games

Same issues here bud, as with many other people. We can not get an answer but it is giving many of us the same problems. Ostegar is the first place I noticed it and now can not get even 30 seconds before my computer either restarts or black screens..
Another thread with a semi fix was listed but now the op says just don't play it until they fix the game. Here is the thread if you want to peruse it.

Can we please get some feedback or acknowledgement that Bioware at least knows there is an issue and are working on a fix?

I have this issue as well, and would also suggest not playing this game till its fixed. After one such freeze I needed to do a hard reboot and after that every game I use now crashes with a blue screen error listing atikmdag.sys never had problems (hardware or software) before Dragon age freeze ups.....
dkll is right we need an official comment on this issue.........

Talked to someone from EA today. There recommendation was to do a manual uninstall and another re-install. After 5 uninstalls, reboots and reinstalls I am going to wait it out. I emailed them back to say that its still not working. I still havent got a response back. Maybe tomorrow. Its a shame because what I did play of this game it was really good. Kind of like a tease. I did some research and apparently this is a pretty common problem. Not just on PC's but consoles as well.
Whats giving me fits is Ostagar. The repository loads seem to be fine. Without giving away spoilers I load the repository and I talk to the people after the repository when I come out and its fine. Ostagar loads up and either the loading scene or cut scene freezes. Sometimes that goes through and it loads and lets me walk for a few minutes (sometimes enough to let me talk to all the people there) then freezes or reboots my pc. I even have some saves in the wilderness that freeze my pc. Remember this is my second walk through from the beginning to this point from uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling the game 5 times.
Anyone have any ideas?

Oh yeah, and you can see from my specs above I do not have a slow PC. I forgot to mention I have 4 GBs or RAM. I dont think its a case of my PC being overworked. Like I said before, Sins of a Solar Empire works fine on the highest settings with 4 groups doing all out war. Crysis runs fine. Command and Conquer 4 works fine.... all on high settings. No game in history has given me this much trouble. Regardless though I hope Bioware can get this fixed (or I stumble across something). I really want to play this game!

Bio/EA support for this game has been shameful....I'm still waiting for EA to reply to my email from 2 days ago. And still no word from Bioware.
I to have never had so much trouble with a game, what went wrong Bioware? I read today that the expansion is delayed because of bugs. Oops more technical issues.

I've been having a very similar problem. I made it through a decent amount of the game (to the Circle of Magi) before everything went to hell. Blue screen, system reboot, freezing. Everything you guys have experienced. That really sucks that there is no solution yet, you would think with two patches on such a big game this wouldn't be an issue, but oh well. Maybe EA/Bioware will give their fans a due service

Yes, I now am faced with the game rebooting my pc every time I load my save. I have logged 71 hours of game time and everything was fine up until now. Actually, things started going bad after I downloaded Return to Ostagar. That DLC played fine, but shortly after that, I got some crappy armor that I can't remove from my characters and now the reboot everytime I load a save game! ARGGH!!! I'm actually kind of glad other people are experiencing this and it isn't something funky with my computer. Anyone with a solution, let us know! (You too EA!!)

Same issue, it's getting gradually worse for me however.
