Silver was actually the first to postulate this... and it makes sense. Neither Legion nor the VI say anything to suggest that the Geth were going to leave the Veil and aid organics prior to the upload confrontation. We're told by Legion that the Geth "believed him" when told about the Reapers, which tells us nothing of how the Geth intended to react. We're told the Geth prepared for war, but the nature of those preparations is never specified. We know there is a facility on Rannoch which is used to house this reaper. We are either to believe that the reaper got there before the Quarians invaded, making an offer to the Geth which they shelved until their existence was threatened by the Quarian invasion (the Geth rep tells us that were it not for the attack, the Reaper alliance would have been "unnecessary"); OR we're supposed to believe that, while the Quarians were fighting the still-largely-ineffective Geth, this Reaper somehow came into the Tikkun system behind them and made it down to the planet's surface undetected, making it to a Geth stronghold capable of withstanding prolonged orbital bombardment which was already conveniently able to house it. The former is far easier to believe, especially considering that thanks to their own actions over the last three centuries, the Geth had no allies to turn to.tevix wrote...

Oh ho..ha..haha..oh man...
Now you've reduced your argument for not trying to shut down the geth to "The geth can kick your a--, don't mess with them."
The quarians who tried to shut down the geth were wrong. Sadly, they never had the opportunity to correct their mistake. If the geth absorb only knowledge on how to kill and no sense of morals or right/wrong then we can assume even if the quarians attempted peace before the end of the MW the geth would have rejected it and killed them anyway.
Evidence?
Geth become racist homocidal bast---- that kill vessels of peace even if they aren't quarian.
Also, you have failed repeatedly to respond to deinon's assertion (and he provided evidence) that the geth were considering alliance with the reapers before the quarians showed up.
Why the f--- would they even be talking to them? We don't know for certain if they would have taken it up, but the fact that legion had to stop talking because of a difficulty in whether to take them up on the offer...that says they are considering it pretty seriously. That's questionable behavior in and of itself.
The Reapers approached them unassailed once before. Silver's theory was that the Reapers made their offer before the war, and the Geth cut off contact with the Quarians to consider it (Tali theorizes Legion stopped talking because he was resisting the Reaper takeover). The Reaper invasion spurred the Quarians to launch their attack because they had no other options (they can't aid the war effort with their entire civilian populace on board or survive an encounter with the Reapers in space, and nobody else can or will take them in). The Quarian invasion spurred the Geth to side with the Reapers because they had no other options (they couldn't tear down and move their dyson sphere in the time they had). And the rest is history.
Basically? The Reapers played both sides of the table, and (were it not for that meddling human) they'd have won. The Quarians were corralled in their home system by Reaper-controlled Geth, to be harvested or destroyed at the Reapers' convenience, neutralizing the largest organic AND synthetic fleets in the galaxy in a single stroke.

The geth stopped attacking because the LESS than 1% of survivors left. What if they hadn't..?
They geth would have killed them all. ALL.
No justification.
It's also insulting head canon that all organics hate AI for existing. That simply is not true. It's disproven time and again in game.

No one suggested you couldn't. You are free to do whatever you want in your playthrough as I am free to do so in mine. I choose peace but if that is not an option then the Quarians die.

True enough.
Huh, by that logic the Reapers deserve to be destroyed simply because they couldn't stop me from docking the Crucible....

That's very interesting. I had not considered that.
It begs one question for me, though:
Why would the geth even taken the time to consider it, or let the reaper on rannoch at all? Legion goes on this rant in ME2 about how they basically exiled the heretics for doing essentially the same thing. They wanted no part of help from the reapers, or HELPING the reapers. They didn't want their protection, their technology, or their advice.
Why would the geth plan for war against the reapers then chat it up like buddies with them shortly after.
Doesn't make sense. Somethings missing.

Really, the last 20 million...50 million...100 million were a threat?
REALLY? If some hostile force reduced the earths population to 100 million we would be pretty harmless.
There was no justification for that kind of slaughter.
And if the 17 million left hadn't left, they'd all be dead too.
