Mine kicked in with my first EC viewing last night. The last scene of Kaidan and Shepard as he was jumping in to the normandy.. oh my god! That really got to me, so bittersweet :(

"Into The Inevitable"... Does that sound a little snarky to anyone else?

I thought the track title was in bad taste. "We know you want a new ending, but you're not getting one. Enjoy this DLC, then face the inevitable dissapointing ending".

I wish they made "The End..." longer. I prefer it over "Farewell and Into the Inevitable", it gives a good mission accomplished feeling. I guess their choice of music shows that even with a fake ending, Bioware still wants us to leave feeling sad instead of happy.

Just because ME3 is the last game with Shepard doesn't mean the story is over. The last we see Shepard and the Normandy crew they are flying off to parts unknown. Anything could happen at that point.

You...you do of course realize MEHEM is just a fanmade mod..it's not Cannon right..

I sense a troll.

Sure it's fanmade. Since Bioware didn't see fit to include a proper ending, people were forced to make their own. What does that have to do with anything? Speaking of which, Bioware's ending flies in the face of so much established lore that it's no more possible to take seriously as canon (only 1 N, by the way; a cannon is a weapon) than Deception. It's a bad fanfic of two writers that SOMEHOW managed to make its way into the ending of the trilogy.

Dr_Extrem wrote...

the soundtrack meta data could be seen as a sidekick to the data miners and people who still had hope that the endings will undergo a revision.

See, that kind of thing is what's made me despise Bioware more than anything else they've done. (And I do NOT use the word "despise" lightly.) Companies and individuals have made mistakes before. It happens; no one is perfect. Own up to it, make at least some attempt to 'make things right', and move on; almost always with customers who now have even MORE faith in you because you CARED! Bioware did none of these things. Gamble just got done making a dig at people who didn't 'get it'. (His statement immediately before Citadel's release. Merizan made statements about the mental health of Bioware's customers. Bioware as a company has NEVER stated that the ending's reception was anything but the fault of the customers. (I am aware that a few individuals have (example: Weekes), but they were speaking for themselves, not the company, at the time.) More than that, they insist on sticking little troll attempts into their DLC. (Not to mention the HUGE troll that was the Refuse ending.) Every which way you turn, there is someone making a snide comment lifted from customer feedback. Either someone thinks it's funny, or someone's ego is just as hurt as the people who've been holding out for another option for a bloody year now, but either way, it is unnessessary. I would never do business with a company that mocks it customers for being stupid enough to stick with them. Bioware is now very firmly on that list, and will remain there barring a HUGE change in how the company is run.

Wish me luck. I'm on the 'speak to a specialist' stage of getting a refund for the game. (For anyone else thinking of trying this, EA's customer service number can easily be Googled. CHARGE YOUR PHONE FIRST! Hold waits have been ginormous due to Simcity.)

The weird thing is, I'm totally one of those girls. I cry at Disney movies. But something about ME3's attempts to make me sad just felt so manipulative and all I ended up with was annoyance.

I cried during Frankenweenie, while trying to hide it from the 10 year olds. I had no chance with Mass Effect.

Yeah, I know! Usually I fall for that crap, but in ME3 it just felt so darned blatant and mechanical.

Yeah, I'm in my third playthrough now and I've managed to get my ovaries to calm down a bit.  But there are still things that make those sad water drops fall out of my eyes.

But at this point, I think it's more that the trilogy is finally over, and now I have to find/finish other games that live up to ME.

Because it's the last bit of ME3 content, making it sad in a meta sense at least... Too bad setting it in the middle of the game ruins that.

Damn straightB)

Edit: Let's be clear. I'm no fan of the ME3 endings, but I dislike for the starbrat and many narrative flaws, not because they're sad and ended on a note of death and sacrifice.

i am glad mass effect does not have a sunshine and bunnies ending in the first place. Image IPB

no .. but you were only complaining, that an off topic comments topic makes you want to throw up. if you are not interested in that off topic topic, why did you respond to it in the first place.

btw. you did not contribute to the original thread topic at all.

it was only a snide comment on the mod.

"Feels sad man" was a direct reply to the OP's question (re the crying comment).

The second part was also a comment on the OP, as of course he brought up th MEHEM.

so let me get this straigt. you posted before, that nothing implies, that this thread has a mehem reference but then you say it does. that does not really make any sense. if you read the op and it contains stuff that makes you want to throw up - why post?

I'll break it down for you, since you seem to have trouble following. OP was as follows:

wwinters99 wrote...

If you look at the metadata for the final song on the Citadel soundtrack, "Farewell and Into the Inevitable", the comment section says "You may cry now..."

My question is: Why would I cry?

To this, my reply was "Feels sad, man". Fairly simple and straightforward.

wwinters99 wrote...

Shepard and crew just had a great party. They are going to get back on the Normandy and win the war. Sure, Anderson will die and he will be missed, but Shepard survives to put his name on the memorial wall. The galaxy will be united, the Reapers destroyed, the Quarians and Geth are working together.

The only reason to cry would be if you thought Shepard was about to meet a glowing dead kid before being disintegrated/left for dead. That's just crazy.

To this, a reference to the MEHEM, I commented on how the MEHEM made me feel. When I opened the thread (having read the TITLE), I did not expect a MEHEM thread, so it kinda annoyed me, hence I mentioned my feelings regarding the mod.

Understand now?

Because the characters don't have clairvoyance. If you are a player who has been through the game before, you know that Shepard is going to survive High EMS Destroy and that no more squadmates are going to die. But the characters themselves don't know that. They think they are headed into another suicide mission where many of them (or all of them) may die. There is also the very real possibily that the counteroffensive will end in failure and that the Reapers will triumph, with the invasion of Earth merely being the beginning of the end for galactic civilization. Hence Shepard's comment about it probably being their last party.

I think what makes that final farewell sad is the mental state of the characters participating in it.
