The OP is trolling everyone. He has MEHEM installed, and is insinuating that it is the official ending.

Because the characters don't have clairvoyance. If you are a player who has been through the game before, you know that Shepard is going to survive High EMS Destroy and that no more squadmates are going to die. But the characters themselves don't know that. They think they are headed into another suicide mission where many of them (or all of them) may die. There is also the very real possibily that the counteroffensive will end in failure and that the Reapers will triumph, with the invasion of Earth merely being the beginning of the end for galactic civilization. Hence Shepard's comment about it probably being their last party.

I think what makes that final farewell sad is the mental state of the characters participating in it.

Well put.

I didn't hear that in my game. I never went back to the Normandy. I heard that track on the soundtrack. Shepard's final scene was getting tea for Liara's hangover. The next step was to get everyone to clean up the place and say our goodbyes and Liara was to stay.

If people want so bad to discuss MEHEM, there is a thread in the Fan Creations forum. I suggest you use it.

End of the line.

yes that is how I'm going to play it inmy next playthrough.

I disagree, I find the EC vastly superior to MEHEM.

That track actually made me content and i came to terms with the ending because think about it, The next game wont have shepard as the main character. Probably in a whole different era of mass effect, future or pass so how the game ends is irrelevant. Shepard we had a good ride dude/dudette but we have another protagonist to cheer for. R.I.P Shepard

To be fair, I found the easter egg in the song file genuinely interesting. At the same time I do not agree with what it infers. Namely that the end is inevitable.

The work Fob has put into MEHEM is amazing.  I'm trying to make sense of the tools we have available to make my own ending and it's really daunting.  That said, I like the Star Child scenes.  I like the Normandy Crash scene.  It all makes sense in the EC; I don't know how anyone can be confused by what happened.  So I can't use MEHEM, otherwise those are gone.  It's a good ending.  So is the EC.  So was the original cut, only lacking details.
