It's the drama of the games. The relationships. And the MANY little touches.

when i watched it, i was impressed.
Romance, decision making, an interesting set of characters, aliens, an interesting story, and a TPS with Roleplaying.
What wasnt there to like? So i bought the trilogy pack, and damn was it worth it

Another thing that first got me into the series was the Collector's editions. Never before did I want to use eBay and get old CE's I missed out on

The entire reason I bought an XBOX360 was because I heard about this "awesome game" called Mass Effect. Well, five years later, I've rolled through the 3 games multiple times, read all of the novels, most of the comics, a couple of artbooks, and spent more money on stuff at the Bioware store than I care to remember. . . Yeah, so I am quite hooked. So, what hooked you the most onto Mass Effect?
As for me?
1) The whole "Holy-Cow-This-Game-is-Like-a-TV Show" factor
2) The sense of wonder and exploration that permeated the first game
3) Garrus and Liara
4) Whole design aesthetic which is sort of 1970s-1980s retro-futuristic
5) On the whole the universe was optimistic in its tone
I got the 360 because I knew it was going to have games that I wanted to play like Halo 3, Gears of War, that Perfect Dark sequel/prequel? that didn't turn out so good in the end, and so on. When I heard about Mass Effect I did some research on it and that helped seal the deal.
What got me hooked into the game? I'm going to go with numbers 1, 2, 4, and 5 from your list. It kinda sounded like a Star Trek game without actually being a Star Trek game what with the strange new worlds and new life and civilizations deal, you being the commander of a state of the art starship and all. I was so hyped.

I played 1 a bit after it come out in those circumstances.
Also, I'm a massive sucker for character creators, and that first Shepard turned out really well, with a big scar and a sleek look that just seemed to match the world around her. So I really liked her and how she worked out.
Unlike a lot of people, I love the buckets out of 3, too. Something about the prefab levels in ME1 started driving me stark raving bonkers on about the fourth playthrough, so right now it's honestly my least favorite of the trilogy. Which isn't saying much, cause I like Mass Effect a lot more than most things.

Maybe this would have been better

But i'm not here to argue. But i've been here a year longer than you, i think i know the rules rather well and
i just want to hear more mass effect discovery stories if you don't mind, discussion is over.

After that I was drawn into the game because it reminded me of Starflight, an older sci-fi game I had played many times. Also enjoyed playing Shepard, so I stuck with it for the next two games, for better or worse.

the fact that I could sympathize with the enemy he's one my love to hate list which is very hard to get on btw
I loved the very star trek feel with the whole talky techie type of monologue
it was very personal. Fshep voice acting really added to everything even though fshep herself second in terms of script writing she really put the effort in and made her real. Mshep was harder for me to play in ME due to his brick voice I had to force myself to play as him up till Shadow Broker then when he was let off the brick chain it worked out really well.
The Farscape vibes and other great elements of classic sci fi were brought into ME that just disappear as the series progresses.
I do love shep being human in ME3 however feeling and showing emotion
The overall ability to fight with my LI
Garrus and Tali both drew me in back in ME1 and kept me that way I love both these characters.
The lore of ME
The mystery of the beacons and being special in using them
The mako I loved exploring in it I would drive around forever not using the map at all just the little radar waiting for the moment an item popped up on it to go find.
The slight variations through the whole series of Mshep and Fsheps playthroughs we need more of this not in terms of fshep's hos before bros for LIs I mean in terms of how the femlead lives and acts in the world I would love for her to have more obstacles as she is the girl in the man's world the femhero playthorugh should reflect this oh and get more bros for LI for femlead.

Okay, technically, I did that in Dragon Age first, but I suck at that game, so I never saw the full potential of my jerkery until I put the game at the easiest setting!
