Unlike Reave in Mass Effect 2, Reave in Mass Effect 3 cannot recharge health. Reave does add damage protection; basically it decreases the amount of damage enemies inflict on you. Reave can also set up and detonate biotic explosions.shumworld wrote...
I'm starting a play through using Dark Channel. Though just wondering can Reave recharge HP?

Use any of the Shield Powers or maybe Carnage/IGs for Fire Explosions.

Bring liara or javik for biotic explosions and James so you can blow stuff up. Carnage plus charge= fun times.
The vanguard is one of the most versatile classes in ME3 cause your a CQC beast, but also a soldier and also a poweful biotic. I rolled this loadout for My ME3 insanity vanguard playthrough that I just completed last weekend:
N7 piranha X- dammage mod and light materials (citadel DLC mod)
M-90 indra X enhanced scope, light weight materials
Blood pack SMG X light weight materials, thermal clip mods
With this load-out I have 172 percent recharge. I'm lethal at any range. And when paired with Inferno Armor- massive power damage and recharge boost I can spam the sh!t outta my biotics.
But the real kicker is Barrier, specked out to max damage reduction. Now not only are you a CQC beast, lethal long range killer (indra, 3rd highest DPS sniper rifle in the game), slayer of armor (Blood pack SMG melts armor- even without ammo boost- and VG got incendiary ammo). But your literally a tank with barrier.
Nasty.

I went with Energy Drain as a way to deal with shields when it's not safe to charge in. Dark Channel seems like it would work very well with Charge and Nova.
Dark Channel is a good choice for any class.
Shame it breaks the lore so much. I'm considering using on my soldier, just because i can't aim proxy mine for **** and a power that drains the life from an enemy sounds like a great fit for a renegade shepard.

For Proximity Mine, you do not have to hit the enemy, just aim it at the enemy's feet. It is a fairly low-damage power, so choose Radius at rank 4. Just aim it towards the floor by the enemy's feet and it will explode as soon it hits the floor.RA RA XD wrote...

To be honest, I only really use the charge/nova combo when fighting a big enemy (banshee, brute, atlas, ravager); any other enemies, I tend to charge into close range, then use my Disciple to take the enemies down, using an occasional charge to recharge my shield when they finally get through it. I do agree with charge/nova being completely cheap, but it definitely makes dealing with those big enemies less painful.J4mes wrote...
In SP I found that using Charge->Nova was way too cheap and made Insanity trivial. I liked ME2 style of Charge->Claymore-> and rely on defense and smart positioning to play. Makes the gameplay more rewarding.

I personally like reave on my novaguard. Extra damage protection is nice for those brief periods of time I don't have my barrier up after using nova (especially on higher difficulties), and it does this without the increased cooldown times on all of your other powers that barrier and fortification cause.
You make a fair point. The only Shepard where I have beaten mirror match on insanity is Reaveguard Shepard.
Infiltrator kept getting downed by mirror vanguard.

Speaking of Vanguard builds, I'm surprised no one mentioned the idea of a Carbine Vanguard.
