Sure no problem, glad you like it. If you ever need a change to it (or a new one) just drop me PM.

Does that only apply to 'AClockworkMelon'? :innocent:

But then again, I'm actually rather fond of my actual signature. Hmm...

I don't totally disagree with any of this, except that for the sentiment that it is purely selfish, any more than ANY art is selfish. Sure I like making them, but I also appreciate seeing the ones others makes. It also makes it easy to pick out regular forum posters.

I guess I just have gotten use to them seeing them on every site I got to.

However since they do not seem to be common right now I will settle for text.

[EDIT - removed snarky comment. But I am a little irritated that my enthusiasm got rained on, as I am pretty hyped and excited about this game and was having a lot of fun playing around with graphics and this new site. Plus I feel like it was being implied people who posts signatures are just being narcisstic about their artwork. People can actually enjoy sharing art and appreciate others arts without doing it for their own viewing pleasure. I can just make it my wallpaper if that is all I want to do.

But I didn't really mean to get so worked up over it. My last point, before I let it vanish into the virtual ether for now, is just one statement on this:

quote---which is counter-productive and counter-intuitive for a forum of information.---

Some of this forum is information, perhaps all. But I think a case could at least be debated that some of the forum is purely for social purposes and the sharing of things besides just text - such as fan art, graphics, etc. Of course you can just make threads purely for that type of thing - I am very aware of that. Just pointing out this isn't some high-brow educational research site, at least that is not my impression. It seems to have some laid back fun and social aspects to it as well, or at least some parts of it.

Sorry, it doesnt do well with quoting, quoted things.

I will try to answer these in order of your comments..

I apologize if I offended you or put down your excitement.  That was not my intent at all.  I think there are people that really like looking at different signatures and stuff, which can maybe be seen on profiles or some middle ground between repetition of signatures in a thread and being able to only see it in your profile.  I dont know if it will let you know who is a regular forum goer, necessarily, because there are many people that probably won't have much of a signature but may be on the forums a lot.

My opinion is just that, an opinion.  I do not want you to stop putting up a signature that you love and agree with just because I find them somewhat distracting (just need to train my eyes better, Image IPB).

I do agree that the forum isn't a research library by any means.  I agree that you can have fan art and other non "informational" threads.  But maybe we leave the art there then or what have you.  I think that for the most part this forum and most forums are 'laid back'.  Anyone can join them after all.  I spend plenty of time dinking around and looking through threads that may just be goofy.  My issue lies with it when I am going to an "informational" thread that I am searching for answers or information about a class or game situation, etc.  I find it hard(er) to read through the thread and get a series of information when I see colors go flying by as a scroll and I happen to find it slightly distracting.  I would prefer in those cases that I can just read the information and get my questions answered and then leave to go back to playing the game or move onto other things.

I am sorry if I crushed your spirit.  Again, I did not mean to, I was just giving my thoughts on the idea to give another viewpoint of the topic (which got slightly derailed from your op).  I also find your signature nice, I just have seen it about 25 times in this thread alreadyImage IPB .

I am also really excited about the game and the new social network.  I hope you enjoy it too and continue to use it the way you want to.  After all, the site allows you to have signatures in the first place.

Sorry it was so lengthy.

Regards

AClockworkMelon - I see you got some help from NewYears1978 so glad he could help you out. I got busy working on other things - like office work :)

NewYeas1978 - Nice work! I wanted to throw something together quick for ACM just to see what could be done. I like how you did the text - that was a nice touch. I am not really that good with art (which is why I tend to recycle it lol).

sabier627 - Really appreciate the nice post. I really had not meant to make a big deal, but you know how forums can get. I may be 45 but sometimes I get like a little kid when I get excited about a game so when I started the thread some of the comments ... well kinda put a damper on things so I probably over-reacted. Thanks for understanding.

I guess we see what happens. I am going to enjoy sig making and viewing while it is out there though, but I not only see your point I also sometimes have the same issue. But most of the time I prefer the color and art to bland text, even if it is not as utilitarian.

OOps one more comment - I don't have a ton of free time (just been home with a cold this week which is why I am posting so much) but I don't mind helping out if someone has a theme for a sig.  I do my work in Photoshop CS 4 all in layers.  So I am already getting a huge mass of artwork together to be able to create things.  I want to do some web work as well but that will have to probably wait for Xmas vacation.   I am often working 6-7 days a week certan times of the year (although taking a 5 day weekend when the game comes out lol).

For example here are two base templates I started before I had to do some work from home:

Image IPB

Image IPB

The first was kinda cool with the dragon and fire.  The bottom - well I just love the scenery although not really sure what I would do with it yet.

It is a fun way to kill time when sick or on a rainy/snowy day though.

You should do a series. All the different origins or perhaps all the different companions. Or heck all the budding sig designers should. We could have a contest or something. :3

Posting to see my sig in context.

EDIT: I guess I'll want to drop the brightness on it a little... Maybe tomorrow. Need to sleep now.

Wow, half of this thread is amazingly nonsensical reading it later (since the signatures have changed).

I like that one, actually. Just too bad it isn't 50px high, so it'll get 39px cut off. :(

I take it that means you approve?

Was afraid I was drawing the joke out too far. Think it's useable or should it remain a joke-signature or improved upon?

You have my blessing. Though I can't help but wonder if it couldn't use more lens flare.

Every single Sig Pic i've seen in this thread is superb! Image IPB

The lower one of these 2 here, I suggest a flying High Dragon in the air in middle of the picture! (Shamelessly biased idea, for i'm big on Dragons!) Image IPB Perhaps a little one that fits in the image, as if it was bein seen from far away?

While i'm here, this is a very embarrasing question, but i've never got to use a signature before in my entire life, & have no clue how to use them. How do I put something in a signature space & use it? Image IPB

Go to Profile -> Forum Settings and then in the editor window enter your text (if you just want text). The signature has a height limit of 50 pixels.

If you use an image you need to encase it on BBC code (the editor window has a BBC Code button you can click on to get into BBC edit mode - which is what you want to). You need to have a link that points to the image that is stored somewhere (like on a website) and then encase that image link in the image tag: {img}http://image.link/sig.jpg{/img} for example - only replace { with the bracket symbols [ instead of curly braces.

You can put in a link as well - using the URL tag. Most you can do in the regular edit window - but the image tage is done in the BBC code mode.

I've taken some time to mull over what i've read in this thread about the various ideas on signatures, & i've come to the conclusion that large signatures would be ok in profiles, but too bulky for practical post signature use, & small signatures for post use are ok.

Mitch-: I like your big sig a lot! Image IPB If it could get it's resolution spiffed up a bit to be clearer to see, it will become epic! Image IPB

Edit: Fixed a spelling error that somehow dodged my proofreading. Image IPB

I don't mind em' typically on guild forums where most will typically use the same size or style. It's when they're all too different that my OCD kicks in. I used to make them as a hobby but I've become much more accustomed to using text sigs. Figure I'll make one when I nail down a character concept.

Many thanks for the info! Image IPB

Testing my new sig to see if I did it right.

Edit: Woohoo! Success! Image IPB Interested in opinions on how I did on my 1st sig idea!

Doh! I made that saying up myself, & forgot to stick my name on it! Gonna fix that.

Edit 2: Streamlined my sig, & added my name on it so everyone knows who made it in case anyone likes my sig enough to adopt it. Image IPB Which I would find cool! Image IPB
