I would do gold more often if I played with people I vaguely knew more often. I can carry a silver match if needed, but seeing how rarely anyone uses their mics on PC, I find gold to be an exercise in frustration more often than not.

EDIT: Just bought three Premium Spectre Packs. Got two more customization options for the base Krogan Warrior. I am not a lucky man.

If I weren't still unlocking stuff I'd probably stay in silver all of the time. I like the pace and balance of it. Gold can be a lot of fun but most of the time I just want to shoot some aliens in the face with my space shotgun to relax and Gold can sometimes be a little much for that.

Platinum I've never found particularly fun but I do it now and then for some extra creds (I'm desperately trying to get my ops pack count back up so I'm spamming recruit packs like a maniac).Alas I usually end up in box of shame games and I'm not good enough to run off on my own and leave them to their box so I get stuck there with them.

Its a Vicious cycle.

A Gold capable player plays gold... realises that he as to carry the team full of silver level pug players.
Decides to play silver to relax and release steam.

A just graduated from bronze player decides to up the challenge and attempts silver.
Finds silver too easy due to the above player... and said "Hey if i can do this easy i can do GOLD"
And up he goes... and ends up being carried by the gold player above...

And its goes on and no...........

Since it will always be so, I offer you a solution

1) Destroy all Bronze Players, just use the tracking feature of the Kinect and launch laser beam through the screen.

2) Control all Silver Players, it'd be easy if one guy controlled the whole team.

3) Synthesize all possible players and games by making all games Random Challenge, Random Map, Random Team

I hear you, I'm also playing from Asia, and lag really kills my game a lot of the time.  Unfortunately, I'm on Xbox, so no rubberbanding fixes for me...  I often have to stick to classes less affected by lag.  Collectors on lag is just murderous, and is it just me, or do collector games seem to be about 60-80% more likely to be laggy??

What classes do you find to be the most lag-friendly? In my experience these are also the ones with greater survivability, since the main problem with lag for me is taking damage - suddenly finding myself bleeding out, and thinking 'WTF I DODGED THAT', or 'WTF WHERE DID THAT COME FROM'. I can generally make gunshots and power hits through lag, it's the random damage and death that gets me.

I play a greater variety of kits now, but when I'm dropping into a lobby (or potentially joining a match in progress) for the first time, I still typically run something a little more durable. If the lag's okay, then I swap to something else. Is the AIU OP? Is the Turian Ghost OP? Maybe - but it also lets me stay alive in a random Gold game where everything I do has a noticable half-second or one second delay. My real favourite classes are probably Fury or Volus, but you need reasonable latency for that.

As for Collectors...the Playstation 3 players say they have serious game freeze problems against Collectors. PC and Xbox don't have the freeze issue, but it's quite likely that Collectors really are lagging more for you.

Krolord is lag friendly, up to the point where he gets sync-killed by a boss that wasn't even there a few seconds ago. Generally, any class that lets you kill from a safe distance and doesn't rely too much on projectiles is better - so human adept setting off singularities by shockwaving from cover, destroyer shooting every bullet ever in a hail of lead and grenades, and of course Drellfiltrator (!) detonating recon mines and popping heads with the Raider (only use scanhit when dealing with lag) are all good choices.

Only exception is with adepts, you 've got to deal with just being hit instantly, without warning, when playing collectors.  And I used to like bees, too, they make honey which is almost nature's ultimate food, and they pollinate fruit trees for us to enjoy.  After ME3 MP, though?  When I see bees, I just think of flamethrowers...

Off topic - I wonder what collector bee honey would taste like???

Didn't read, but there is a group called Game Changers. We bring up silver players and share advise in builds and such to help those step up their game. Join the group, we can help you get to platinum without breaking your arm.

That's an interesting point about the Human Adept and Drell - I don't think I've ever played either on Gold. I'll probably try at some point. The whole killing-around-walls thing is a good idea. My own anti-lag strategy has typically been to buff my own survivability, but that would work.

I enjoy the Krogan Warlord on Gold, but I'm still figuring out the best guns to take on him. Since sync-kills are such a problem, he does need weapons.

I think Collectors suck. But I don't want to suck Collectors.

Er, yeah... I was trying to move to gold... but finding a lobby is pretty hard, for some reason... I kept ending up in a lobby that was just done... So, I gave up.

Hmm, maybe I should try again... Well, eventually... I'm just so lazy...

I've started using Silver to purely level up a particular class to about lvl 15 or 16, then going pure Gold from there.

Only exceptions being brand new chars I've not yet familiar with. Silver-first in that instance.

I could handle gold, but spending half of the waves fighting nothing but bosses isn't very much fun.

Same boat as a couple of you. I like and mostly stick to and do well in Silver, live in Asia and often get terrible latency with hosts. I run the odd Gold game (few more recently) and I hope I'm better than the average player who might take my place, but I'm nothing special there.

I don't generally find Silver PUGs to be that horribly unbalanced, compared to the other difficulty settings, though. You get a similar skew in Bronze and Gold: top players honing in on twice the score of the lower guys. And I've never really had anyone complain about feeling superfluous in a Silver match. That's just part of the learning curve at all settings.

Actually, I found mostly friendly helpful players in the limited times I've gone into gold...but WHERE WAS THE CAKE???

The cake is a lie.

Thanks, I'll check that out.  I think my builds are mostly gold capable (thanks to BSN advice), it's my lack of skill on certain kit types that hold me back.

I do too, most of the time, but in some games that devolve into "race to the spawn" I find myself actually holding back, just so some of the newer players have something to do.  I feel bad for the clearly beginning players with weak weapons desperately chasing around the map looking for something to kill.

When I get on at  a time I know will be laggy (7-8 pm is terrible here), I'll equip weapons that I don't really need to aim - so reegar/piranha might be good choices.  When the lag is light, I'll slap on a RAIDER, because, you RAIDER ALL THE THINGS EVERYWHERE.

*cough* sorry, had to get that out of my system.

I'm not the most awesome player at this game but by bsn standards I should probably be playing gold more than i do.  So when I see that I'm playing with someone who is obviously new to the game (below 120 n7, low challenge, etc., or playing like they don't get some stuff that I take for granted now) I do try to... I don't know, I wouldn't say "hang back" exactly, but hang out with them?  I'll try to find a way to combo off of their powers specifically and keep an eye out for crap that used to get me in trouble when I first started playing.  I definitely do try to jump into kills less as long as they seem kosher (maybe throw a debuff for them or something), even if there's no other enemies for me to target nearby.  It seems like it often helps people kind of work out what's working for them and their kits, you know?

I usually end up in really neat 2 man squad dynamics because of it.  Some of the best games I've had.  It's one of my favorite things about playing silver; we get all the newbies coming up from bronze who are still working out the basics.  I know a lot of newbies try to jump to gold right off too but I definitely see more of them in my silver games than my gold ones.  I like playing with well intentioned newbies.  I like pugging.  I like the randomness of getting dropped into a match in progress.  I know it's just a game and all but I feel good trying to pass on the stuff that better players than me taught me when my 'I suck at shooters' butt first jumped into MP.

You, sir, or ma'am, are a better human being than I.  My way of being nice is, "I won't wipe out that ENTIRE spawn. Here, have a husk."

I'll aspire to play as generously as you do henceforth.  Looking at your manifest, seems like you're in a pretty similar place as I am - want to play some gold games sometime?

Sounds like fun. I'm currently trying to teach myself some kits and weapons that I've always sucked with (I'm looking at you krogan headbutt and world's most stylish batarian). But I try to stick to my classics when I play gold so that I can gets the monies for the gunnies. I'm appalled I just typed that. :D

And to be fair, I have those days where I'm just annoyed at every little thing everyone I play with does. This is why I don't turn my mic on often. Me ranting and raving at carrying noobs or my squad getting me killed or whatver really has more to do with me than it does with them (which is probably true of every single rude weirdo who's ever yelled at any of us on the mic). I probably had a crap day at work or something.

OP:
The prevalence of players roflstomping Silver is likely due to the challenges. I know I did a fair amount of Silver for some of the characters and weapons that I was less than comfortable with as well as for the bazillion promotions I had to do for N7 mastery.

OP what is your gamertag?

I play gold regularly and like bringing along players who maybe aren't so comfortable, as long as they are fairly smart and willing to try to contribute to the team. I'm on the west coast of the US though so I dunno if we would be on at similar times (I'm on late afternoon through the evening most days), but you would be welcome to join up with me if you like.
