Well, I don't want this update affecting my game (35 hours in) so as soon as I downloaded it and found the problem I didn't play with it.  As long as I do this am I safe?  Or is my save file (as far as specializations go) done for?

From what I've read on other threads, it was the update that Bioware rolled out today that caused the problem, not the DLC. At this point I can't even sign in to the DA:O servers to play, so maybe they're doing a quick fix for the specialization problem. We can hope at least.

That's what I'm saying.  I downloaded the UPDATE but haven't played yet.

I'm not sure then. I'm hoping the server error everyone seems to be getting is the result of a fix in the making, but who knows.

Would some one please confirm that the patch is bugged. I have not played the game since this announcement because I a being very cautious considering all that has happened with this game.

So is the best thing to do not put the game in my xbox until Bioware release more information about the bug the DLc cause and when they will fix it?

I confirm you that the problem is with the update and not with the DLC.

But you can play if you don't connect to internet... I was playing when the update was lauched and I choose not to upload in that momento and my conexion on live go out. When I did the save, I reconnect and made the update.

If you are not connected to internet the update can not be download... (Except you had already download it)

I downloaded RTO DLC but not the update. I haven't relaunched the game since last week as I'm busy and won't get around to it for the next few days.

Should I delete the RTO DLC and wait to re-download the corrected version when it comes out?

I cleared my cache without playing so I believe I'm good for now. This seems to only happen when people play, then turn off the console.

Good to know that I'm not the only one to lose my specializations. Ah well, since I only don't get 2 of them during the course of a normal playthrough (Reaver and Blood Mage), it's not that big a deal. The only irritating thing is that I don't get certain specializations when I want them.

Which brings a question; does this bug affect successive playthroughs? I ask because I want to know of I need if I change the way I play again, to get certain specializations at certain times.

can the specializations be relearned again like through regular game play?

if so that would be cool enough just like starting over as brand new kinda didn't like that when I started a new character that they where all there and available I think it should unlock on every character play through instead of just being there. My thoughts hope they fix or can relearn

Oh, they can be relearned no problem. I've already relearned Spirit Healer, Templar, Duelist, Shapeshifter, Ranger and Bard in a single playthrough, and I will relearn Assassin, Champion, Berserker and Arcane Warrior in this current playthrough.

What I'm wondering is if I have to relearn them every playthrough, of if they stay like they did before this bug was introduced with the latest update. For example, what I'm wondering is if I unlock Arcane Warrior under my warrior, will it be there for my mage?

I've read that even if you relearn them, once you turn off the console, they are locked again.

Just to clarify, Manbearpig is actually real and lives in the outback of Australia.

I can confirm this. So DON'T relearn unless you're at level 7 or 14 and are prepared to use them right then. Otherwise they're gone for good right now. Hopefully this is fixed soon. The minor bugs on this game didn't bother me, but this is almost game-breaking. I'm a wee bit frustrated now.

You know, what frustrates me the most is that I normally try not to update right away.

But I believe the way the update was presented, was that I either performed the update, or get logged out of XBOX live. So I interpreted this a mandatory update. I guess, from what everyone is posting, it is not mandatory; and I must have misread the update notice. So I have only myself to blame there. But I do hope Bioware patches this soon as it is a PITA.

Well apparently as long as you don't play WITH the update you'll be fine. Turned off my console, Cleared my cache, and all my specs are still there.

I have a dumb question: how to do you clear your cache on the xbox? I know how to access the drive and delete files. Is it any different?

Go to "My Xbox", then to "System Settings", then to "Memory", hit "Y" on your hard drive to get to device options and clear the cache. It's pretty easy.

I downloaded the update  and got to the main menu with the downloads (got my 3 missing achievements), but never actually played the game.  Once the achievements popped I saw no reason to actually load a game until the new DLC is actually released.  So hopefully it didn't screw up my specializations.

You didn't. You actually had to play with the update installed in order to glitch your saves.

I hope this does not mean we have to completely start over if (and when) the problem gets fixed. I will be royally pissed off if that's the case. :[

Well, lets stay optimistic. Otherwise at least EA's advises will come true:

Erase your savegame and start over - all bugs are gone then ;)

I have 9 characters created. 2 have finished (well, I deleted a 3rd).

The download of the patch did this (I did not buy RtO).

On a positive note.

I cleared the cache as folks here have said.

Then I went into the game, earned one specialization back.

Saved, shut out of the game, turned off the system.

Then I went back on, into the game, played until I leveled, and all the specs are back.

there's something else.

During this time, I started a new character to see if going a fresh one would work. (This was before I relearned the one specialization). Found out that all dog's Warrior abilities were gone too, along with the specializations. (this on a human noble).

So...said screw that and went into my mage game and leveled up like I said.

left the game again.

Now Dog has his Warrior skills again too.

And my specializations are back. So it is possible to revert to the old status. It appears to give you all of your previously unlocked specs back, not just the one you just re-unlocked. I had all but Reaver done.

It appears life is good for now. They'll fix it and I'll carry on until then. Well, I will wait a day or two before getting the next "fix."

Thanks.  I'll give it a go.
