 Time for me to give back to the community a bit...

For the next few days, I'm going to be hosting an 'introduction to platinum' lobby.  If you've been shying away from Platinum games and hiding in the shadows of gold, or even silver games, now's your chance to shine.  If you're interested in joining up, send me a message on XBL- GT: ToYz R RusH.

My only request is that you have a mic, a high level character (preferrably level 20), and are willing to use consumables.  (Don't show up with 0 rockets, medigel, etc.... not cool.)

No, we will not be using the 'box of shame', though we will likely play on either Rio or Giant because of their layout / objective placements.

This isn't for people that are comfortable already running platinum.  You and I both know that some maps / enemy choices are easier than others.  I want to give new platinum players a chance, not troll them.

I've no problem running a double unknown but doing it with a group of non-platinum players means I'd likely end up soloing the game.  I want people to learn and enjoy themselves, not watch me from their death cam.  Maybe you enjoy watching your teammates fail while you destroy everything.  I don't.  Like I said, this is about bringing people in to platinum, not making them never want to attempt it again.

I typically run as a Geth Infiltrator, Drell Infiltrator, or Asari Huntress.  The first two are always with an adrenaline module III and I literally run with the package (run, drop, pickup, repeat).  I'm extremely proficient at it.  The Asari is, well... Asari.  You can run the package with her as fast as PC users can.  If anything, I hate 4 points more than pizza.

Think about it though. You're running "introductory Plat courses" and then saying "I can do all of the hard stuff for you."

You need to be doing it in such a way that the players you're running with are learning how to deal with objectives too. I mean, you could teach people how to beat Plat through Glacier speedruns, but that's not going to teach them strategies for dealing with regular Plat games.

What I'm saying is, "I'm going to help players, that want to give platinum a try, succeed."  It's an introductory to platinum, not "At the end of one game, you'll be able to beat Platinum games EVERY time, on EVERY map, against ANY faction, and do it by yourself!"

The first step is to get them in a game, where they can feel somewhat confident about completing the game while helping.  If they are comfortable running the pizza, they can have it.  I'll hold off enemies for them.  Else, I'll run the pizza and let them hold off enemies for me.  Either way, it's about them.  My point with what I said is that pizza runs on Rio are not an issue, no matter how you look at it.


You people really need to stop being such "posteriors" about what I'm trying to do.  I'm giving people an opportunity that they otherwise wouldn't have and instead of messages like, "I can help" or "good idea", I'm stuck with people trolling me / beating me down with a stick?  Seriously??  Enough with it.  If you're being successful on platinum games already, this thread isn't for you.  If you're interested in playing platinum games, but haven't been successful or haven't tried, I'm here to help you succeed.  It's as simple as that.  Now please, no more comments from the peanut gallery.

Also that Rio is a blight and should be removed from rotation.

As a player who does mostly silver, some gold, kind of interested in doing better in platinum, this is greatly appreciated - I'll send you a message when I get home in an hour or two.

I think it's a good initiative. The first thing a new player (at that difficulty level) needs is a success at that level. Don't worry too much how it comes about as long as it's not complete exploitation like hiding in a box. Strongest characters, best equip, easiest map/faction, why not? It's about building confidence. From there people can get more adventurous, no need to start with UUP with level 6 vorcha engineer is there?

I think it's easier to transition with a GI specked for speed/max visibility and light builds. That way you can move around, learn the spawns and make any weapon still do a good DPS.

You know, Jade is a good map for Plat. I am serious, no trolling here.

Dagger is a good entry map as you have open distance between you and the enemy, spawn points are also easy to see, objectives are good, I generally start people with Jade/Reactor as I find them easy as well. London as we know is the map to avoid unless the team is solid, every map can have a tough objective however if you stick together or have a plan it goes very well, communication is key.

When people ask me for a good platinum build, I typically lean them more toward the turian ghost, edi-bot or destroyer... I personally love the GI but he's pretty squishy with the build I use.  Nonetheless, I see your point on its benefits.  I'll start mentioning him to folks as another option and see how it works out.  

For their first platinum build, I've been trying to let them play with their favorite character / weapon(s).  Of course, if they choose Fury / Geth Spitfire, I might steer them in a different direction.  Any obvious blunders I notice, like putting a smart choke on the reegar carbine, etc also get fixed...

I'm not showing any hate toward any map. Well, maybe some maps like London and some hazard maps... but when I'm holding a lobby for new platinum folks, it's going to be on a map where I'm comfortable with all of the objectives. Jade has an escort that goes right through the bottom middle area and a '4 points' location in the bottom middle that trolls me hardcore. Dagger is a fine map but if someone goes down, it's not always easy to get to them.

As I said before, I'm holding Platinum games for those who aren't used to playing platinum. I'm picking maps that I am comfortable doing this on. I know we will make it to extraction.If you want to host your own lobby on different maps and encourage non-platinum folks to give it a try, feel free.

You are aware that there is a group on BSN who does this already right? Called Game Changers. If you'd like, I can show you what we do. I have taken a few plat babies through Jade. I am no super awesome player either. Teamwork was what saved our butts. Just throwing out map suggestions to help you not feel like grinding if you just stick with Rio or Giant.

Hey, I am just throwing some suggestions out.  What OP is doing is a good thing.  I just don't want him to feel burnt out on this game.  I was doing this for Lodestar and it almost burnt me out.  Mostly my fault for trying to do this myself with 3 new plat players.  Actually I believe a few of them were silver only players.  I don't like being "bossy" and telling folks what to use(like when nobody is using AP), but when folks are burning through their rockets by wave 3, it's an issue.  If OP wants help with these runs, let me know.  I would be happy to help.

It's all good, as you know a group of us including Rouse, yourself and many others formed an initial strategy for every map, with the assistance of others from BSN, then took well over a hundred players through those maps on platinum and continue to do so, next we ventured into the run and gun in teams which is actually easier than holding the line. I was only offering suggestions based on experience, others can take it or leave it.

Nope, was not aware of this...  You have my interest.  I'm sure you know of the objectives I'm referring to.  I'd be interested to hear how you help new people through it.  I did a Goddess at the request of someone I was helping... we extracted but it was far from fun.  That's when I decided that I'd stick to maps I'm extremely comfortable with.  Rio / Giant are the easiest 'legit' platinum runs for me.  Glacier is my speed run map, but I'm not expecting everyone to have the capability to pull that off.  Besides, Team AreleX is MUCH better equip'd to teach speed runs than I am.  I bow to their excellence.

Sure, no disrespect taken. Mus7ang and I have pretty thick skin, so even if you tried, it would be hard to offend us. Also, INVADERONE has a few vids showing plat strategies on every map. Just trying to make things enjoyable. Also if you would like, I am familiar with Giant and Goddess speedruns if you would like to give them a shot.
