I had to take heed of my own advice and am continuing to tool up for these new assets
There has been some progress...
I have surveyed some of the resources available and there is quite a lot to do.

To not have to re-invent all the animations I felt is very important. (But we have only 17 bones!) Through proper naming conventions we should be able to invigorate Nwn with many new face lifts quite quickly

Draygoth28> I had reached out to you but you have not responded yet...
Your skill set would be of great use in this endeavour.

Many of these files may come with sounds "bites" too. Most are totally applicable to our game
Once the workflow is figured out there should be "great strides" of progress

No worries...Just wanted you to know that I had thought specifically of you and a few others..
It is a community... Posted Image
With that in mind, in order to expedite development, I wanted to "open this up" to the Nwn community at large.
There is an enormous amount of excellent low-poly mesh out there. Keep in mind that our game is 12 years old. There is also a large amount of editing to be done.
I have uploaded, to the vault, the required i/o plugins to help alleviate the strain of waiting.  <for the killmonger Posted Image>
I anticipate some tremendous improvements in the look of our game.

<edit>
.... 2 hours later....
Drop yer linen and start grinning

I am happy to report "Progress"
It is possible to easily capture the kf motion files in max
My first test critter is now alive with graceful motions.
Now the hard part....

I sent a pack of various animals in nif format from different games with their kf animation files for KM to experiment with, along with some sound files that match. Anyone else who would like them to tryout, let me know and I'll forward them your way.

Draygoth, sent you copies of the files sent to Killmonger. I'm also gathering together a set of different war elephants from Civ 4 from different Civs. Hopefully you'll find one you like and can adjust to work in NWN.

Zwerkules, Killmonger says you're looking for some cows.

Below is a pic of the 3 I have available at the moment, plus some more creatures that could be converted. I would prefer sending these out in themed packs as mentioned before, to keep things organized, but if all you want to do is the cow, I'll send them your way with thanks for the support.

Top row is a Brahma Bull from EE3 and 2 Cows from EE2. These have kf animations. KM has been able to animate a EE3 caribou in Max which looks promising.

Second row is a gorilla, raccon and sabretooth from WP2. These have kf animations and sound packs. WP2 has not been tested yet for animation.

Also, this a link to a bunch of cows from Google's 3D warehouse for sketchup. I can grab these and send as obj files with mtl and textures, though these are sometimes done in a strange way using material types instead of textures.

They look good Dragoth...they look like they're animated and moving. Are the camels mountable yet?

It looks like you got the WP2 animals working - are they on their kfs or standard NWN animations?

Last, what would you like sent your way? One of the themed packs mentioned before? Any luck with the war elephants?

I could only use the Obj. files. They are animated in game and use the standard NWN animations. I'm not that good with animations. I will make mounts out of the same models so they match up. So far only the wolf has both versions done. If you have any other animals I would like to take a crack at them. Unfortunately I only have the scripts to import 3ds, mdx, and Obj.

I'll set up one of the themed packs to include the nifs and kfs as well as obj and mtl files your way so you'll have both to work with.

Haven't heard from KM today. When he gets a better grasp on things, maybe he can be persuaded to do a tutorial with some pics on how he got the kfs to work with the nifs in max

Just a picture of how the jaguar experiment went. I took a jaguar model with 10k poly and took it down to 1200 and fixed the texture smearing.

ShadowM, those are nice. The textures look good though the body seems a little strange - they probably look better in action.

I have most of the big cats available if you'd like more to play with, already low poly.

Good work on the Jaguar ShadowM. I am working on the Lion male now but the model looks blocky, even after I add smoothing. Randomdays any chance you can send me some of the Big cats as well. I have the two versions of the gorilla's done and am looking at the elephant variations from Civ 4 thanks to Tarot showing me the nif plugins that Killmonger posted and I over looked.

@ShadowM I take it that the jaguar on the left is the before texture correction and the one on the right is after? Also compared to the figure in the foreground, they're a bit big aren't they? Texture on the one on the right looks good BTW.

@Randomdays I currently have an old game called "Loki" installed that is a diablo wannabe. It apparently uses the nif format. Doing a search in windows reveals 1100+ nif files. The thing is I don't know what files are needed as further exploration reveals a number of different file types including dds and tga. Not only that but there is also a separate directory labeled textures! Would you care to post a short piece on required files.

Draygoth, I'll assemble the cats and send them your way

Tarot, Each game does things different. To find out what textures a model requires, download and run nifskope - I think Killmonger posted a link to it if you can't find it. When you look at the mesh you can see what it needs for texturing. Example below

Putting the Big Cat Pack together and sending now.

A Note on Nifskope - Besides viewing and editing nifs, it can export to obj if needed.

WP2 - 8 Big cats. Only one set of kfs for the tiger - I assume the rest use the same animations. Limited sound files. Nif only on all these since you have a handle on those now.
Black Panther, Cheetah, Jaguar, Leopard, Lion (male and female),Puma, Smilodon and Tiger

ZT2 - 7 Big Cats. No kfs. Sound set for each animal. The Lion has male and female. All have a cub version. Nif only. Couldn't find the texture for the Black Leopard anywhere in the game directory for some reason.

Cheetah, Jaguar, Black Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion, Florida Panther, Bengal Tiger.

EE2 - A tiger and a Vulture I had missed before. Nifs, kfs and sound.

The ZT2 rar is 18 megs - If you don't see it, the attachment might be too big - I'll reup and split it if I have to.

Thanks for the response. As an aside the "florida panther" was/is (not sure if it's extinct) just a local version of the cougar/puma/mountain lion/20+ other names.

As a person living in Florida I can tell you they're not extinct yet. We also found out there's a little difference between them and the rest. We tried bringing in some cougars from the west to improve the population and gene pool and they didn't do too well, the implants and the mixed young as well.
