My question... how the hell did the kid get on that ledge? It's like 10 feet above ground and 10 feet below the rampart. Freaking spider-man is what he is.

The human noble story is indeed my favorite, as a human Grey Warden just feels better than a dwarf or elf, and I enjoy playing the human. Problem is I've played the human noble orgin so many times I can't do it anymore because I dread the same orgin sequence over and over. But I am meticulous with my characters, and if something isn't JUST right, it bugs me and I delete and start from scratch.
It sounds like I have exactly the same obsession. I will restart a character because I decide its the wrong name, hairstyle, skin tone. I do this in all RPGs, I can't help myself but it kind of kills the origins after 3-4 playthroughs.
Credit to DA:O though, I still find some new responses and little discovery's after all this time (the noble's sword in Ostergar camp for instance).

Yeah, I think you do meet him eventually. I was a bit dissapointed by this, as there was nothing touching about the reunion. It was quite a short exchange of words and rather cold, if I remember right.
My first playthrough with a human noble the family lands were given to the grey wardens to rebuild the order. Second playthrough as a human noble, Fergus is there post-coronation and I got the warm fuzzies from my conversation with him - it's brief, of course, the masses are waiting to fete you, but at least he was there. I wonder what happened to him the first time???

I second this! That's what goes through my head everytime I see that opening. That, and where the hell are your parents??

He probably means the knight's sword you can get from the elven messenger. The one with the tooltip that says some poor confused knight is on the battlefield fighting with his fork...
IIRC, the mage's chest has only potions in it, maybe a piece of jewelry?

Interesting. I've never come across that, and you know how many human nobles I've played. What was the situation?

As for how it relates to the story, there are usually two different types that fit well. The traditional hero, who you would expect (human noble) or the one you would least expect (dalish elf). Dwarfs are too similar to humans, and are so isolated, that they don't feel connected to the whole blight etc imo.
