I have modified my Hawke to be an elf and used the model for the Dalish archer and in the prologue it works fine, but after I reach my first year Kirkwall my body is invisible.  It only becomes visible again when I take the armor off, but now my character is a lot weaker because I can never put on armor/gloves/boots that increase the armor and add effects.

I did not have this problem though when I modified my warrior to be a Qunari, no matter what outfit I changed it to the model remained the same and I never went invisible.

What can I do to fix this?

Waaaaait, so your Hawke started off as an elf? Through Lothering and all that? Did you use console commands to give him the Dalish archers model? I usually just give them the "Elf" model. Use Vaddi to find some "elf-compatible" armor. Like Athenril's outfit, or any mage robe. I think guard armor is for elves too...I don't know the stats for any of them though.

RogueLass has some stuff on the Nexus for Merrill/Fenris. I think they're all standalone as i've never used them, but they aren't If you have a mod that allows you to remove companions weapons and armor, you COULD place those armors on your own elf...
I know for sure the armors she makes have stats on them. Here.

Hm....I also think that you can put a specific piece of clothing on them, and then apply different stats to them using the Editor. Only heard about it when applied to humans though. Or you could just supplement your armor suckage by using overpowered weapons/accessories :D
