Seeing the Female Protagonist getting the big majority of the vote, it makes me think of the official statistics that Bioware released regarding ME3. Remember how popular Femshep was, and then in the official statistics I think like only 11% of the ppl who played that game created a female protagonist.

Because people from these forums are voting on it, and a lot of them are ''internet activists'' with an imaginary-sexism stick up their rear ends.

Male mage first, as usual. Then female.

Female Qunari Mage if a mage for Qunari is possible! Can't get much more badass than that! :D

Right now, I'm choosing between a male Quanri warrior and a male/female Qunari mage. I've always played male first time around, but I'll try and get into the spirit of doing things a bit more differently.

I always play males unless I need an achievement.
I can't get in to playing a female.
I want to play a male saarebas so bad I'm too excited already.
I wonder what he sounds like?

Always play male first, especially with all the great romance options these days! But eventually I will play a couple female characters :)

I'll play a male to scope out relationships and quest solutions, then play a female who does all the sociopathic things. That was quite fun in DAO, ending the game with only Anora and the exit Guard willing to talk to me. :D All the rest were dead or run off, denied their wishes.

It was 18% and that's actually a huge number of people who played ME3.

Why do people care about this so much?

More often than not, I play as my own gender, which is male.  I changed it up for DA 2 because there's only so many times I can stand to play as a human without adding some kind of variety.  And polls don't work anymore, remember?  Who bumped this?  Show yourself!

I am going to do a playthrough with all races, two male and two female. Going to play as an Elf first which will be a dude, from then on I'll flip a coin or something.

I'm really planing on keeping my first playthrough to a female elf. But I really kind of want my first playthrough to be a male human warrior or rogue.....you know the 'vanilla version that all people of thedas will easily get behind since they won't have any issues with his sex/race/background'

And then play other races and sexes to see what changes, what I get locked out of for my choice of character. Since I really like playing as a female elf rogue.

My husband is set on a female qunari as his first playthrough.

Female. I just can't play male characters, don't ask me why. I just get uninterested really fast and can't keep playing. I can be any race, but always female.

Are those stats just from the first time a person plays it? Or does it track all your choices in every game?

I'm female, but I still play a male on my first run and then a female.

I would bet money that the significant lead in female voting is because of female Qunari. I've been predicting since that was revealed to be an option that it will be the MOST PICKED choice for the fanbase (of people who's first DA isn't DAI anyway) out of every combination of race and sex. Female Qunari have been mysterious and an enigma since the very first game, but we've never seen one in game and the only places we have are 2 concept arts and a comic. I would get probably 70% at least of the returning fans want to play as a female Qunari first, which is exactly why everyone is picking it.

A year from now when Bioware releases collected data on player choices and races and sexes chosen, don't be surprised if female Qunari truly were the most selected combination for first playthroughs.

It's 30% in Dragon Age, according to mr Gaider in this talk (16.30 ish)

Like the ME stat, I'm not entirely clear as to exactly what the stat is though.  Percentage who created a female character, or proportion of characters which were female or what.  Or in the case of DA it could be the proportion of
players who are female, though I'm not sure if they could get that from telemetry

Humans: Always male. I cannot play a human female when I can make a hot human male to ogle at in cutscenes.

Elves: Mixed. I love playing female elves as mages and male elves as rogues. I never play them as warriors.

Dwarves: Female. I love playing a battleaxe wielding female dwarf warrior if I do play dwarves at all.

Qunari: Unsure. I will probably end up playing a female qunari mage some time.

---

Going to start with a human male protagonist though :)
