I've got 500 plus hours, but since I've pretty much played from launch that equals out to a few hours a day, skipping quite a few days. It's like a small daily fix, usually right before bed, doesn't actually impact my schedule that much. Also have a busy work life & need to spend time with the wife, but in moderation it's been fine.

Also remember time has different value to people in different stages of life - youth=time rich, money poor, older=money rich, time poor. Some can afford to spend more time on this. And how can you measure or quantify the pursuit of happiness, in any case?

I have over 1300 hours into the game...but I also work 40 hours or more a week. Some individuals I know don't do anything but play ME3 all day every day.

I work 40-50 hours a week, have an 80+ title game collection (counting arcade titles), and have managed to put 360+ hours into ME3, only ~100 hours of which are single player.  I don't mind not having a full manifest because my personal belief is that the real thrill is in the chase.

I've 100%'d Red Dead Redemption, have gotten all guns gold in multiplayer, and have literally done all that there is to do in RDR.  It's an incredibly deep game.  I don't play it anymore.  Know why?  The thrill is in the chase.

How long have you had the game, OP? I ask because 130 hours to me sounds like you haven't had it all that long (or are just very efficient in rounds in which case well done you).

I can't speak for others (and most have covered the "meh who cares as long as my real life junk is covered") but in my case the nature of my job lends itself very well to dropping a huge chunk of time into this game. I work graveyard shift at a convenience store. No one I know is awake on my days off.

But honestly I've been gaming since I was wee back in the 80s (had an Atari 2600 and a Commodore 64 that plugged into my TV, followed by my beloved Colecovision). I've always sort of gamed this way; obsessive streaks of time on one game until it died or I moved on (or in the case of Civ 2 and Starcraft 1, until I played them so much my disks fell apart 10 years after the fact). I get real life taken care of.

This year, my stupid body betraying me has also added to my game time. One month after the game's release last year, I hurt my back at work and was given bed rest. That's when I finished SP and jumped into MP. God how I sucked. Bronze was so hard.

Then over the summer I got appendicitis (who get's that at 36? I'm personally offended at my body for not rotting my appendix in my early 20s like normal people) and was down from work for three months (unusually long recovery time courtesy of bruising from meds I had been taking to help my back). Got hauled out of my store in an ambulance at 5am. That would be my bronze/silver to silver/gold migration.

And now I've just hurt my back again (much worse) at the same stupid job (seriously, 711 is ridiculous and for your own health do not eat off of their roller grill I know how they clean that junk and it's kind of against health code everywhere). Suddenly I'm playing more gold and an occasional platinum.

So yeah I've had a fair amount of time to sink into this game. On days that I work I only play for an hour or two and pretty much strictly silver for the roflstomp relaxing nature of it. On my days off I'll play for hours at a stretch just like my 12 hour Civ 1 for DOS streaks when I was in high school. Right now all I have are days off.

I guess I should thank my body betraying me for allowing me to improv my MP shooter skills. Maybe I'll jack my BF's copy of Battlefield and see if I can get the hang of PvP while I"m at it.

I don't remember how long I've had the game but I've owned it for quite some time.  In regards to your question about efficiency I only play platinum.  I'm not quite old enough to have had the expierience of playing video games back in the 80's but it must have been incredible to watch them and technology in general evolve into what it is now.  Who knows what the future has in store for us?  I appreciate your post and I hope you have no more mishaps at your workplace.

I like to play my games effciently.  I also don't know how you can call someone that has put 130 hours into a game a newb.  Put 130 hours into perspective.  That is nearly five and a half days spent in game.

It's as simple as the time people have available to them. Some people have more, some less.

People in college or high school may have more time to play, especially during breaks/summer. A stay at home mom when her kid(s) take naps, someone who was laid off and has no work prospects, some who is really ill or disabled are all people who may have logged a lot of hours.

I personally logged about 2-3 hours a night. Once kids went to bed and wife went to sleep, I'd play for a few. It was my down time.

I remember that Banner - it was very painstaking and WILL NEVER NOT BE MY DISPLAY BANNER, because of the absolute grind it is. Image IPB

I just did it for a second time.. 120 Promotes since Retaliation release!Image IPB

Anyway @OP,
I have 855+ hours right now, becuase I am a fan of the ME series, and I love the MP in ME3. Image IPB

Why would it be alarming for someone to love a BioWare game?

Just because, I like to spend my free time doing what I enjoy.  Which currently just so happens to be, playing ME3.  I should feel sorry for myself?  It's not the only thing I enjoy, I do other things.  But I have enough free time to put 855 Hrs(Which is only 35.6 days, after the game has been out for over a year.) into this game.  And since I enjoy it, I will.

Similar to my response to Jedi eariler, being a fan has very little to do with this from my perspective.  People loving a Bioware game isn't what I find alarming.  I'm not asking anyone to anything.  I'm just want people's opinions about what they think of playing a game for 500+ hours and if that is good for this community.

haha 300 something hours in five months is nothing. I started playing in early November right after I became single and now I am at 820 hrs... and I have a full time job. The funny thing is that it was my ex who got me into playing ME games

At ~650 hrs my playtime roughly equates to 1.5 hrs per day over the life of ME3.

That's really nothing, 3-4 games a day, if you think that's crazy, earthshattering, extraordinary etc. you arent a gamer, more of a casual which is fine.

You've never propoerly addressed questions posed to you, such as why you find this fascinating or unusual.

I have an 8-5 job, spend time w/ wife and daughter, go out occassionaly w/ friends, exercise, cook, clean, take showers.

Shockingly all while being able to play ME3 and *gasp* even other videogames.

You suggest your not a troll so there it is.

not sure if you're still monitoring this thread OP, but it seems you have a rather narrow view of the "healthy" way to entertain oneself. it's been stated several times, but as long as one isn't bringing any harm to others, time spent on a game is irrelevant. now if by playing the game extensively, certain other aspects of one's life go unattended and suffer, then the only one harmed is oneself and that's certainly none of our business. to me it's rather insensitive to simply pick a time amount (like say, 130 hours) and deem anything above that to be "obsessive". without knowing the situation of EVERY PLAYER, throwing out blanket judgments about play time and even referencing Manson followers (you did this a few pages back OP) is to me a very irresponsible thing to do. and that's putting it mildly.

well, you wanted some opinions from the community, there's mine
proudly sitting at around 1,000 hours, and my real life's just fine thank you :)

I'm not trying to pass judgement on anyone.  I just noticed a trend that I found alarming and wanted people's opinions on it.  I didn't pick any amount of time and say if you've played more than this that you have a problem.  I just used 500 hours and up as an example.  Not knowing everyone's situation is one of the reasons why I created this thread.  Using Manson's followers had nothing to do with my topic.  Is was just a response to a statement that someone made.  Sure it was extreme but that was the point.

Well, speaking for myself, this has been about the only game I have played since March last year. Sooo... that adds up to a lot of weeknight and weekend afternoon hours, without being anything crazy like 24/7 gaming.

uh instead of comparing a RPG game like ME3 to pure first person shooter like CoD or BF. You should probably compare to games like Diablo or WoW but then again most console players in here have never played those really time consuming games so it is understandable why they keep whining about the URs etc

I'm not comparing an RPG to a shooter.  I was comparing Mass Effect 3's multiplayer aspect, which is a cover based shooter to another shooter.  I did mention skyrim eariler but that is irrelevant.

it seems like you are spending more time telling people why their posts dont fit your criteria more than considering their opinions.
you asked for opinions, here they are, Op.

I routinely work 80-120 hr work weeks with 24-36 hour shifts, without counting the continual reading/studying I do to stay current. That might sound excessive to some but I love my job and wouldn't trade it for the world.

More to the OP's point: I have 665+ hours in the mp part of ME3, don't regret a second of it and still love the game and play regularly. Excessive - maybe, but it's my free time to spend and I find it helps me better tolerate my longer work weeks. Is this bad for business - maybe; the opportunity cost is that I haven't played other games much at all (including SWTOR, so there is some impact on BioWare, though I imagine this is offset by my continued support of sp & mp ME3 DLC).

Well I think instead of complaining about the store and its UR rate we should complain about the small number of maps and the fact that they are quite small and the fact that only 4 players are allowed in the same game. Maybe they will change that in the next game IF there will be one. It would be so awesome if they had a map the size of the fictional country of Panau in Just Cause 2 :o

Uh, for all youknees-jerk buttholes who got negative with this person go back and reread his post. He is just curious. And for the record, 130 hours used to be a lot of time in a video game. But now as video games get more in depth and because of MMO's/multiplayer games, people are spending years worth of time in them.

I was hurt and had nothing else to do it sit in my recliner and play video games. And since this game takes one of the best features of the ME universe, namely the action, and centers game pay around it I was naturally hooked. Hope this helps.

Its nice to see that at least one person doesn't hate me for this :).  One of my favourite things about this game is that they they brought all of these races and created 50+ playable characters based around their specialties from the single player.

Time played:
740H 16M 19S
Games played:
2221

Could it just be that this game has given me the most fun in a multiplayer format then previous games? And I even took a break from ME3 to play AC3 and BL2 when they came out, but after finishing them, I'm back to ME3MP. It's just that good (at least for me), plain and simple.
