What happens if you choose to keep it because you could find it usefull? If you have already unlocked this specialization, what are your best choices?

nothing at all happens just a feeling that your word means s**t .And for no gain at all . i did on my first playthrough
and its still haunting me , for makers sake set him free

It's worse than simply not gaining. Destroying it awards experience, keeping it does not. So keeping it actually costs you experience.

I didn't notice that the first time around. When I get back there on my 2nd game I will look to see how much XP I get.

yeah I chucked him away first time and thought afterwards actually that was a bad idea. I started running around the alter to see if I could find him again to say "Im sorry!" lol
In fact I felt so bad I loaded a game from an hour ago. I will never throw him away again even though I have the specialisation.

i set him free each time and ask nothing for an act of mercy, no matter how "evil" my character thinks they are, they can not let him stay trapped it seems.
