You're still not gonna survive for very long if you've got every enemy(or even the majority of them) focus firing you on Gold/Plat, even in a full defensive build.

Some setups will let you get away with living a bit longer(Reapers don't do as much damage as other factions) but it's not really going to be that long without outside help or Ops Packs.

If your Turian was a Havoc or Ghost, I would call that an off-tank with the proper use of Stim Packs.

Platinum requires a bit of planning, sure. But seriously, on gold, you dont die. Never. An atlas, a turrent, 3 phantoms, 2 centurions and a bunch of troopers. No problem. Just heavy melee for the win.

You say "not gonna survive" but then I do with every enemy on gold, easily, then platinum, usually.

EVENTUALLY they'll take me down, if my squadmates aren't shooting them.  But there's no reason for them not to be. (Can handle things like 2 praetorians with 2 banshees with phantoms and pyros and mooks on platinum, usually)

I'm not saying it's a guaranteed thing, but usually it's not a huge risk.
