In my first playthrough I was listening to the vast majority about it being a useless skill exept fun to play. I was dissapointed but really found it kind-of-limiting myself. I then saw a youtube video with one of the PR guys showing a demo. His party was killing Flemeth and he had Wynne turn into a spider to poison the dragon to "weaken" it. The dragon droped shortly after.

My jaw dropped. OH! THAT'S how I'm suppose to use it! I then became determined to make it work. I find myself keeping Morrigan in animal form mostly when ai controlled.

When you control the shifter yourself, do you use all of your mage spells and the change or do you reverse this order?
Are there any other suggestions?

Thnx

ps:  You know your truly a superior gamer if you can take a seamingly useless skill and master it with the greatest finness ;-)

I was personally tempted to try it myself, but the class seemed slightly limited overall. Then there was mention of a bug which made strength the deciding factor in damage rather than magic.

There's no indication whatsoever of a patch for that, and even if there was, being the owner of the PS3 version, I really have no expectations for that to ever be fixed before I die of old age. I also find it slightly annoying that there's nothing to suggest that the other stats(health, attack/defense, armor) would improve with higher magic or levels.

But in theory, if I were ever compelled to play one:

I'd put my points in magic and a few in constitution when I pick the blood mage as a second spec. I'd go for crowd control spells and would toss a few around before going into spider or bear form and picking off enemies. If you plan to use the Swarm, I assume you'd do it in reverse and stay in that form until your mana runs low, switch back, turn on Blood Magic, and let loose a few spells.

Still, even if Shapeshifting worked properly, it wouldn't really be practical. It's more like a CC/DD character that plays for fun rather than the quickest or easiest way to win.

Can you setup tactics for her to change into spider and then shoot poison without controlling her at all?

If so then I could see it work good against boss fights.  How long does the poison effect last?
