"Stop camping!"

God forbid the team use a little strategy rather than just running around all the time, with teammates usually getting picked off as they get off on their own and get flanked.

But seriously.  It's my habit to find a good defendable position, with an escape route, then hold up there fighting the incoming hordes (Objectives aside, obviously) until i'm forced to move.

What is "bad" about that, exactly?  Are people just too impatient to hold still for more than 10 seconds, or what?  It's not like it takes any longer to kill enemies, now they all funnel straight to you rather than having to run around chasing them as they scatter.

Now I mean, I personally don't like constantly running around the map, but if other people do, so be it, i'll just factor them in and keep tabs on them.

But that tolerance doesn't seem to go in the other direction.  I've had pugs run up and start trying to shoot me for staying in one position, yelling "stop camping, scrub" or some noobish comment like that.

Your thoughts?

my thoughts? "stop camping scrub"

lol jk but being serious camping is boring and "easy mode" its looked down upon because its hiding in the sfaety of walls and teammates. it also makes the games take longer

It depends entirely on the map.

Giant, Reactor, Dagger, Rio? Sure.

Glacier, Jade, Condor? Hell naw.

If you want to camp in a public lobby go right ahead as far as I'm concerned, but I will go to where enemies spawn and kill them all, rather than wait for them to come to me.

If I sit in the basement of White with a Raider the game goes much slower than if I'm sweeping the map. It's also more fun in my opinion.

Snobbery mainly.

I only complain about people camping if they are camping in a stupid spot. Like the LZ on Hydra, for instance.

Camping is static gameplay.

And some kits, like the N7 Fury, require aggressive tactics to increase effectiveness and survivability.

well it is very manly to rush into a certain death thats what heroes do and thats also why I think heroes are idiots or suicidal maniacs which they usually are...

I have noticed that it is now almost impossible to find a good Rio platinum game simply because idiots who refuse to stay near the box and decide to wander to LZ side of the map so do you know what happens when they do that? the enemies spawn all over the place and kill off the team one by one. Back before the latest DLC it was easy to find games with a volus and at least one grenade spammer so the game usually go quite smoothly and rarely take longer than 30min but now,,,,

I say same thing as other in the thread, staying in one placer is boring and it draws out the game to much, I rather go where the action is.

There are times when holding a position is a better idea than keeping on the move, and vice versa.

However, "camping" usually indicates not moving either when one is being overrun (i.e. dying a lot in the same exact spot) or staying in that spot even when there's nothing to kill there (i.e. games get dragged out because at least one player isn't killing). Camping is a little different than holding a position against an enemy and making smart use of escape tactics, IMO.

Some people say that in order to achieve maximum combat effectiveness, they need to get into the zone. Campers never get into the zone.

I "live" on the zone. One of the reasons why I dislike campers.

And yeah, that's a SWRC quote xD.

It depends on class-map for me. Playing an Infiltrator? Take my shot, confirm a kill, move to another position. Engineers? Find a defensible position where I can cover my more agressive teammates.

There are some maps where it's fun and reasonably efficient. On most it's boring and unnecessarily extends the game. I'd rather get my killin' done, take my credits, and get some shiny new Cryo IVs.

I very rarely care if anyone else does it, provided they're not screwing up spawns or dying constantly and forcing me to run back to the same spot to res them; after the fourth or fifth time of the latter, I'll let them either figure out that they need to find a new camp or start using their gels (odds are they weren't contributing enough to be worth the continued effort to go save them in most cases).

Camping is good for only two things, getting you flanked and getting you overrun... neither of which are good things - therefore, don't camp.

In my experience, on difficulties other than Platinum, it's just as easy (and more fun) to run 'n gun, and camping seems to slow my times considerably.

Not if you have the DPS!
