Depends on my kit.

Destroyer with a Revenant on a fairly open map? Yep, I'll set up shop in a spot with decent cover and provide suppression fire for everyone else without moving much until the bosses start getting personal.

Batarian with a Raider? Not so much.

how well you can handle it? i mean on hard setting like Gold?

"Stop camping!"

God forbid the team use a little strategy rather than just running around all the time, with teammates usually getting picked off as they get off on their own and get flanked.

But seriously.  It's my habit to find a good defendable position, with an escape route, then hold up there fighting the incoming hordes (Objectives aside, obviously) until i'm forced to move.

What is "bad" about that, exactly?  Are people just too impatient to hold still for more than 10 seconds, or what?  It's not like it takes any longer to kill enemies, now they all funnel straight to you rather than having to run around chasing them as they scatter.

Now I mean, I personally don't like constantly running around the map, but if other people do, so be it, i'll just factor them in and keep tabs on them.

But that tolerance doesn't seem to go in the other direction.  I've had pugs run up and start trying to shoot me for staying in one position, yelling "stop camping, scrub" or some noobish comment like that.

Your thoughts?

A large chunk of the community seems to think that the game quality is solely determined my match duration, and that people who make the game take longer by playing defensively are therefore anathema.

Personally, I think that if you're rushing spawns and killing enemies before they can spread out or attack you, you're defeating the purpose of the game, but this kind of belief isn't exactly popular on BSN, where the prevalent attitude is that anyone who won't nuke spawns doesn't deserve to play Silver, let alone Gold or Platinum.

I'm curious, what do you think determines a good match?

If you say 'team work' without any elaboration I'm going to ignore you.

Why I think holding a position is much more fun:

1.You work much more as a team. Holding a position allows you to focus on enemies much easier. It allows you to use your powers on specific enemies. It also allows you to easily revive teammates easier.

2. You make the enemy come to you. If you are running and gunning, you can just do the former if in trouble. Holding a position means you must stand your ground and it is much harder to leave when the exits are flooded with enemies.

3. It allows me to use melee much more. I am more likely to use my heavy melee when I have teammates right there to pick me up if I am knocked down. This makes using the shadow, krogan, batarian etc. much more fun.

4. Unloading on the annoying enemies. There is nothing like 4 guys just unloading bullets, powers, and melees on those enemies that we all hate such as the Banshee or the Pretorian.

That is what I can think of off the top of my head.

I agree that running and gunning can be fun and difficult, but imo, that is what the lower difficulties are for.

As Captain Kirrahe said, "Hold the Line."

Camping bores me. I don't care if other people do it unless they never help with objectives.

Aggro play would not be popular if it was not effective.  I have no problem with this camping you speak of as long as everyone does the objectives.  Fact of the matter is that you either play to your teamates style or you die.

people are stupid and think they're above a sound strategy. if you're camping a position that makes the game take longer than 25 mins for a platinum, it's not a good spot to camp though

Putting your halfhearted attempt to antagonize me aside, I find that a good match is one in which there is a challenging and unpredictable battle betweeen the team and the enemy forces. When players start utilizing spawn control and spawn nuking, it makes the game too controlled and formulaic, as the enemies have no opportunity to fight back, and if your opponents are getting killed before they threaten you, there's no battle, just a methodical and calculated slaughter, and I don't find crushing my enemies without effort to be entertaining.

I enjoy the chaotic nature of ME3's gameplay, and thus I like to adapt and make up a strategy as I go along in response to how the situation changes rather than stick to a optimally-efficient and formulaic gameplay pattern. When I play a few consecutive matches that are either too easy or too controlled, I quite literally fall asleep at the controller.

It wasn't actually attempting to antagonize you, I just wanted your opinion and didn't want a one-word platitude as a response.  Now, I understand your position.  To an extent I even share it, which is why I seldom play with 3 friends unless we are speedrunning.  Randoms make everything random and interesting.  I don't see what that has to do with camping, tbh, but aside from that I understand.

I see. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

I'm not a big fan of camping either, but I'd much rather play a defensive game than a highly agressive one.

I used to think so too, but I've done fine on games where everyone else was camping, and campers tend to be indistinguishable from leachers in games where there's me and a friend or two. At some point of experience and manifest completion, teamwork just stops being overly necessary a lot of the time.

  • If the team decide to Hold then i hold
  • If all go Rambo i go Rambo too
  • if 1 decide to Rambo alone while me and 2 other decide to hold, don`t expecting me Revive specially if the dude far across a map (i`ll leave the Rambo to bleed out or he can use his consumables).
  • If i see boss monster while team on objective like 1234 i usually do a lone wolf mode to draw out that thing out from team.
  • If you see me do a Lone Wolf mode then KO don`t expecting me to use Medi-Gel in the middle of Sync Killer horde (so please to all Infiltrator, don`t do TC and Revive me in the middle of Sync Killer-->Happened a lot on pug, but in other situation please do so.)
  • That`s how i play.

Honestly? Waste of time. Camping a position means be able to hold back camper busters which is a waste of time. You're far better off learning when to camp, how to camp, how to run and gun, and move dynamically. Two praetorians and three (possessed) scions opposite your camping position? Good luck.

Camping always gives me a sour taste in my mouth. Few teams can do it and its too map/position dependant. Why subscribe to a failing strategy when there's better ones out there?

If I wanted to camp I'd play mass effect 2.

This. Unfortunately people seem to love running around like maniacs on Giant anyway. It annoys me.

I will keep doing this when I need the credits:

yeah... and here is the score of a juggernaut "holding a position" around one of the ammo boxes in the middle of the map most of the time. It was a quite strong team too and I didnt even had to use a single missile.

Depends on the kit, I guess. Infiltrators w/sniper rifles, I'll sort of camp, as in stay in a spot for a bit, then move to a new position to do the same. My Shadows and AIUs, krogan, vanguards, etc. will move around the map, though they do use cover while plotting out the attacks to make.

The closest I come to stay-in-one-spot camping is when I use the Demolisher w/Scorpion. I'll pick a nice spot where I can send grenades into the path of oncoming enemies and then watch the explosions. I still tend to move if needed.

That's cool, not on Rio though, which was my point.  I wasn't disputing your skill (I saw Lonewolf x6 so I assumed you had some,) just the claim that Rio/Reapers/Platinum is a good strategy for credit farming.  I think we more or less understand each other, even if you don't agree with me.

as for Slayin, my 501st Destroyers are original name i came up when Socom 4 came out. so, it's ORIGINAL name that i came up with, not yours. everyone can be original regardless of circumstances that might concern the old school names and new school names with same names. my 501st Destroyers were created in June 2011 compared to your own 10 years old brand name.

its not original if i made it 10 years ago. now stop harassing me about it and drop it <_<

there is nothing wrong with camping i like 2 try and c what the rest of my team mates r doing most time running round like they have no heads but when some one is camping i like 2 stay around things get rough and exit stage and so what if it takes a little longer it gets boring when missions go so fast there over b4 they start
