I've found sweeping the map to be MUCH faster, but only when the team actually moves together. Most games I see 3 teammates with 3 different attack directions, which basically leads to spawns all over the place and which leads to longer games due to lack of focused fire and people going down. Camping is just an easy way to keep the team together.

as for Slayin, my 501st Destroyers are original name i came up when Socom 4 came out. so, it's ORIGINAL name that i came up with, not yours. everyone can be original regardless of circumstances that might concern the old school names and new school names with same names. my 501st Destroyers were created in June 2011 compared to your own 10 years old brand name.

its not original if i made it 10 years ago. now stop harassing me about it and drop it <_<

Oh no upinya! He's harassing you!

I think you should report him, he's being mean. :crying:

Well, you'd ideally want to camp/sweep when the situation called for it.

When I'm playing a Krogan with a shotgun, I'm going to do beans for damage unless I'm running into their faces. Some classes just need to run up to properly do their damage. In a sense it's actually not a bad strategy - what with respawns, it prevents you from being flanked when you're constantly moving forwards.

However, when I'm playing anything with low durability, you can bet I'm sitting in the back. Trying to shoot a sniper rifle from 3 meters with a class that has virtually no shielding is stupid - you'll get more points camping a spot and not dying.

Know your role. Some classes physically can't stand being in the center of enemies, while others have large shields or point-blank AoE abilities with the explicit intent of being detonated in melee range.

...Though I admit, it IS fun to switch up roles sometimes. I was playing a Juggy with a Kishock the other night, and holy crap, I've come to love that setup. Not such a fan of Juggy+Javelin, but that might be because I can hold a whopping total of 6 shots. Yeah, trying to get up close when you don't have an omni blade or a weapon that can stutter reliably is tough...

the only position holding i'm against is the LZ on extraction. I learned my lesson the hard way and cost my entire team extraction credits because I got the LZ swarmed with everything and got them killed. granted, we got the wave 10 credits and everything, but still, full extraction is pretty satisfying after an intense gold/platinum match.

Oh look, another thread dedicated to lots of hand-wringing over camping. I've never seen this on BSN before...

Depends on my loadout.
Never seen a camping fury.
Some classes and loadouts are just incapable of camping.
Got nothing against it really.

Every player should be entitled to their play style, so long as it falls within the bounds of intended gameplay as decided by the developers (sans glitching/exploiting/tampering). When I play, if a teammate simply sits on the other side of the map 'camping', and doesn't provide any relief for myself or the other two teammates, I'm less likely to play with them in the future, but the same goes for any teammate who finds themselves sync-killed every round due to recklessness.

'Camping' is good for players who like to hunker-down in one spot for as long as possible. I'm too mobile - I have to keep moving. So much so that when teammates retreat to the box of shame, I unplug my mic and go 'super-kill-everything-focused mode'. At least, until I die.

The more you're aggressive against enemy the easiest will be your match.
Wait too much and enemies will flank you.
Hit them fast and hard and enemies won't be able to flank you.

It depends entirely on the map.

Giant, Reactor, Dagger, Rio? Sure.

Glacier, Jade, Condor? Hell naw.

Yep..it depends on the map...you can go rambo all you want, but on certain maps it'll end up with you pushing up daises....I'll camp for a little bit to clear out some of the enemies numbers, but i don't camp for a full wave...

Depends on the class and the Map. If I'm running my favourite class, a GI with a Black Widow X, and I'm on Giant, Dagger etc. There's no reason for me to move from a certain area, outside of objectives. I have the range and power to reach out and hit almost anywhere on the map.

If I'm on Glacier with the same character I'll move to several positions, lining up down hall ways and aiming at door ways so they have to come at me, with little cover.

Why I think holding a position is much more fun:

1.You work much more as a team. Holding a position allows you to focus on enemies much easier. It allows you to use your powers on specific enemies. It also allows you to easily revive teammates easier.

2. You make the enemy come to you. If you are running and gunning, you can just do the former if in trouble. Holding a position means you must stand your ground and it is much harder to leave when the exits are flooded with enemies.

3. It allows me to use melee much more. I am more likely to use my heavy melee when I have teammates right there to pick me up if I am knocked down. This makes using the shadow, krogan, batarian etc. much more fun.

4. Unloading on the annoying enemies. There is nothing like 4 guys just unloading bullets, powers, and melees on those enemies that we all hate such as the Banshee or the Pretorian.

That is what I can think of off the top of my head.

I agree that running and gunning can be fun and difficult, but imo, that is what the lower difficulties are for.

As Captain Kirrahe said, "Hold the Line."

Weird - half of that I'd say is better not camping...

1: You work as a team running around the map as a biotic murder squad (for instance)... camping is not required.

2: Sticking to one spot and getting overrun is a good thing now? I suppose if you want the challenge of playing a "hold the line" kind of game for some sort of RP reason maybe.

3: No, sorry, but no - a melee specced kit should NEVER stand still, that's what gets you killed - I reguarly clock up 150k points on gold with the 75 kills, 50 melee kills and 25 biotic kills medals using a Krentinel by just charging ALL THE THINGS (then running away again if it's a Banshee ... *ahem*) - and I'm by no means an "elite" player. The odd times I screw up... TECH ARMOUR! (or medigel/ops pack)

4: Again, you just need to stick together for that, camping is not necessary.

So, I guess, if you want to camp for some sort of "themed" game - go ahead - but if you're just credit farming it's not the best strategy. Personally I quite like taking a squad of Krogan on Giant... or Turians on Condor vs Reapers... or Asari on Goddess... or Volus anywhere - those are my kind of themed games ;)

Hmm, maybe I should see if anyone is up for some Bloodpack games tonight... Krogan and Vorcha using only Graal/Claymore/Striker/BPE/BPP type weapons... might be a chuckle.

Heh - that would explain why I've never completed a game with the Demolisher since the challenges were released... Charlie might not surf but I certainly don't grenade camp. ^_^

The Bad Rep Camping has comes mostly from the days of goldfarming Geth/White. It was annoying for UUG people to land 90% in lobbys with grabcamping Salarians. This was adresssed by BW with introducing Bombers (which add to the overall Geth Annoyance) and ungrabability of Pyros.
Besides: "Holding a position" became obsolete when the Collectors were introduced.

1)  Kay, first, don't necro a thread, especially when you are necroing with a post totally unrelated to thread.
2)  I'll save you the time.  I said you can get multiple headshots easily by just aiming at the body, due to the spread.  This was to counter an argument that you can't get headshots due to spread.

No spread makes you miss the body, not get multiple Headshots.

But you probably won't believe me.

I fail to see how shooting 100 bullets at something and having only 1% of said bullets hit said target be effective.

Here, let me explain something to you.  When the gunfire spreads, it spreads outwards from where you are aiming.

Aim at the body, it will spread out and hit the body and multiple extremeties.

The head is an extremety.  The sheer rate of fire from a light machine adds up to multiple headshots.  This can be taken advantage of to get occasional headshots on multiple targets close to each other by aiming at the center body, then letting the spread take care of the rest.

It's not the same percentage of headshots you'd get from a focused fire weapon, but it is still getting them.

But you probably won't believe me.

When your goal is to hit multiple enemies with said 100 bullets, and you DO with nearly 97% of the bullets, with another fraction of those being multiple headshots, its effective crowd control.  If you just want to drop each person as fast as possible, no, thats not the best approach.  But for hitting multiple opponents with a constant wall of bullets?  Best approach.
