Why are people so against holding a position?

I have noticed that it is now almost impossible to find a good Rio platinum game simply because idiots who refuse to stay near the box and decide to wander to LZ side of the map so do you know what happens when they do that? the enemies spawn all over the place and kill off the team one by one. Back before the latest DLC it was easy to find games with a volus and at least one grenade spammer so the game usually go quite smoothly and rarely take longer than 30min but now,,,,
Not sure if serious. But anyways, I find that going all search and destroy makes games go faster and more smoothly. Being mobile doesn't doesn't necessarily mean being suicidal.

It's good for bottlenecks, actually. Bottlenecking enemies for concentrated firepower is a tried-and-true military tactic. Soldiers do it because it works.
It works in the game, too. Because of spawn mechanics, it's not good to do it for an entire game, obviously, but as a temporary tactic there are many benefits.
Historically, bottlenecks (and variants) are responsible for many examples of smaller forces defeating larger ones with very few casualties.
If you're only sat there for a couple of minutes whilst wiping out a spawn meandering down a corridor ... that's not really camping; not if you then move on to find more stuff to kill once you've done. Sitting in the control room for the whole of a Dagger match and waiting for everything to come to you - that's camping.
One is a good idea, the other isn't.
I'm going to stick with theanswer that it is a good idea, situationally. Camping is a viable tactic, or people wouldn't do it.
It may take a bit longer, but it can be safer, and can conserve consumables, if it's a coordinated effort.
I don't prefer to play it that way most of the time, but I had a 100% success rate camping Giant LZ on Platinum during Lodestar, so it can't be that bad an idea.

Then again, i'm always the guy who goes in with bare bones basics to one man an army just because that kinda challenge is fun. God I miss Battlefront...

There is a difference between camping and defensive gameplay. Camping is consistently holding the same spot for the entire match, ideally never abandoning position. I can see how many people would consider that boring.
In my opinion, defensive gameplay is something between camping and all out offense. Sticking to places with lots of soft cover, waiting for the enemy to come to you. Relocating when the immediate threat is dealt with. This is less boring than camping, and well suited for the less experienced players / squishy kits. My preferred style of playing. But I can certainly see how people would rather go for the agressive approach. More exciting, match goes faster etc.
This is correct IMO.
Camping implies you chose one spot and that is "the" spot and you plan to wait there for the enemy and never seek them out.
Defensive gameplay means you locate the enemy, asses their position and then choose a good spot to attack from which also afford you cover and bottlenecks them while giving you an escape route.
Sitting in a spot the whole game is boring and only works if the whole team wants to be bored with you. Defensive play can be worked into any team makeup and is actually fun.
Also, people like the box of shamer above give your cause a very bad name.

Giant (near the LZ) is one of the few maps it actually works on as you can fall back a bit, long enough to get a breather / launch a Cobra if needs be and you can completely lock down the ladder (and therefore 2 spawn points) with 1 person... try it on Goddess or Condor (especially vs Reapers or Collectors).

FB Ghost, back ammo box still the best
Heh - I used to do that when a friend first started holding my hand into gold matches (long before platinum even existed) ... again, you've got a ladder on one side so all the "big boys" have to basically come at you head on.

If someone died at the other side of the map, I am not going to rez him if other teammates are besides me.

You're good at holding a camp and killing all, then Hold the line.
You're good Running the Map and Killing all, then Charge!
In the End, The enemy all dies, credits are won and a new match will begin.

Heh - Juggys don't count, they can lock down anything, anywhere! They can turn a whole game into an orienteering match... bit of a march, bit of a camp ... in a good way

If 95% of enemies are going to be coming straight to you and open to be shot in the head, while you yourself are relatively safe, why would you NOT take that option? The longer you're out running around in the open, the greater the chance your team is going to be taking you home in a bucket.

Anyways, yeah, I tend to bunker down in one area of the map on gold and plat (unless we have a really good team) and just mess around on bronze and silver. I have nothing against any playstyle.

I've actually successfully camped Goddess before. Held the room to the far right of the LZ with the table in it (not the elevator one). Given, my TSent's Scorpion stagger and fire explosions may have helped. Just pray you don't get a centre hack.
Also, this was against Reapers.
