Am I playing the same game?

The enemy outnumbers the players by 2:1 for most of the game no? They have multiple units that can absorb sustained gunfire to the head and then kill you immediately by touching you. The battlefield is small. They know where you are. The enemy recieves multiple reinforcements at multiple locations, better weaponry, magical curving projectiles.

You get speed and intelligence.

Use those and win. Use real world strategy and lose.

What did I miss?

I'm usually not much of a camper on higher difficulties (ie gold, platinum) but this one time I was camping on gold with 3 talon engineers and I was playing with the AIU. The talon mercs use cain mines on all entrances of the camp and I use cloak to finish the objectives on waves 3,6,10 and it was a pretty good game with 5 waves survived and full extraction.

Any other means of camping is for plebs.

I randomly joined a game earlier and it happened to be Rio Reaper on platinum and I was using a justicar. So three of us including a juggernaut were hanging around the boxes area but we never went in the box itself and there were this drell infiltrator who decided that having high score is much more important and kept wandering off to the other end of the map so we kept getting surrounded by enemies spawned next to us. On top of that he never helped with the objectives on waves 3 and 6 which were taking down the 4 reaper thingies both of the times and they are ideal for an infiltrator.
so laugh all you want at camping if there is no team play even a game on silver could fail

BWHAHAHA sure you just hang around the box you don't use it, riiight. Also, if you have a screenshot of him that means you were dead and he was carrying you. Stahp, Rio shamer, you are making it soo much harder for the people who are arguing for camping...

i hold a position when playing the talon merc to me that is the smartest way to play him. Actually had a guy talk smack when i held the back of rio (no i didnt box of shame it never have never will) and i outscored everyone play smart and to your taste otherwise youll bring the team down

I died trying to do the objective and yes I let my justicar bleed to death because I simply gave up when an infiltrator refuse to help out with an object that is almost made for them. Do you even know the reason why ppl hang around the boxes? ever heard of taking cover? Its easy for an infiltrator to run around in the open. If you have done the hack job at the LZ on that map then youll know what I am talking about. Also, what I refer to as camping is hanging around one area as opposed to being in one single place at all time camping. A lot of players do that because they may find the area a lot easier to defend.

What nerf? all that adjustment was , was a thrown bone to the balance crowd, with not a whole lot of meat left on it.

There's nothing wrong with holding a position, but it's not the fastest way to get things done. If you have the skill to run around and murder everything, then it'll always be faster to do that than camping in one position.

so apparently camping does pay off. big time
I managed to max out the pre-Reckoning URs in less than 400 hours
mostly using a Krogan soldier with fire grenades and a low level N7 Pirana doing Rio/Reaper Platinum...

and now I keep camping either using juggernaut or justicar on mostly White and Giant

In my experience, there are a mix of strategies and play styles that unfold throughout any given game. Most games open with a solo rush for points, then wave 3 objective pushes the group into a rabid pack of death-dealing N7s, and as waves progress and difficultly increases, a few downs increases the necessity to play near each other, where the team begins to fall into a main holding area or will move as a group. By wave 8 or 9 the pressure increases, holding areas become overrun, and everyone begins the classic retreat and kite method.

Most games seem to be a fun mix of aggression, holding, retreating, teamwork, and selfish solo play.

i found them boring and tedious. its alot of running around and i got bored of it.
And what good am i to the team sitting in one spot when i can be speeding up the game by wiping everything ot. Its not my job to "babysit" or "synergize" with what other people are doing. I don't play PUGs that much at all and me and my friends take random kits and playy whatever w/o an issue. no plan, no synergy, just running aorund shooting stuff cause its fun.

Camping is a legitimate way to play the game. When I tank as a juggernaut and attract the attention of the enemies I try to funnel them into a killzone. Where this killzone is depnds on how much of a stroll I want to take, and if my squishies are willing to scorch earth around me, then we'll have a 5 waves survived, or even an epic 10 waves survived on platinum all with games roughly centered around 18 -24 minutes.

You can't deny that's effective, but then again that's being a juggernaut. Camping is a valid way to play. This, of course, applies to me playing a juggernaut.

But seriously.  It's my habit to find a good defendable position, with an escape route, then hold up there fighting the incoming hordes (Objectives aside, obviously) until i'm forced to move.

What is "bad" about that, exactly?  Are people just too impatient to hold still for more than 10 seconds, or what?  It's not like it takes any longer to kill enemies, now they all funnel straight to you rather than having to run around chasing them as they scatter. 

Now I mean, I personally don't like constantly running around the map, but if other people do, so be it, i'll just factor them in and keep tabs on them.

But that tolerance doesn't seem to go in the other direction.  I've had pugs run up and start trying to shoot me for staying in one position, yelling "stop camping, scrub" or some noobish comment like that.

Your thoughts?

They might be getting annoyed because you're in an area where enemies would spawn sometimes to make stuff simpler. And it isn't bad exactly, but it's super boring, for me. I guess that is garden variety impatience, but fast-paced is funner for me.

What's fun about waiting?

like when randoms camp the basement on glacier?
