I'm looking for some advice on weapons people like for casters.  I have a big long list of weapons available, and I use very few of them because I want to keep my cooldown as close to 200% as possible.  To date, these are the weapons that I use and like:

M7 Lancer
Hurricane (rarely, because the others feel more accurate and deadly)
Wraith
M11 Suppressor

So 50 some weapons in the game, and I'm using 4 of them.  I really feel like I am missing out.  Are there other weapons I should try out?  One of the things I'm loving about the arena is it gives a way of trying out weapons in a realistic setting.

Depends on how I spec the caster. I have used the Claymore on an Engineer (twice), and I plan to use it on an Adept at some point.

- Blood Pack Punisher SMG is awesome.
- Venom Shotgun is overpowered, even on a caster.
- Viper is good if you have Ashley for Squad Disruptor Ammo. Works best on an Engineer or Sentinel.
- I have used the Vindicator. Good all-round gun.
- Scorpion is good for staggers.
- I also like the Raider.

Good to know, I'm planning for a Sentinel on my NG+ so will keep these in mind.

Harrier also isn't too bad. Vindicator and Mattock used to get more love, just because there weren't many alternatives.

Paladin would be on the list, but the Suppressor is about 100 times better in SP than either of the Carni twins.

Seriously, what happened to the vindicator ? It has such a low weight at level 10, couple that with a deacent ammo power and you've got a weapon that weights about as much as an unmodded smg, packs a deacent punch, and procs often. I was able to use it with a heavy sniper rifle and an SMG ultralight and still maintain a +100% recharge bonus on my infiltrator.

The Avenger doesn't get much love either, but it's pretty light and upgrades nicely.

My Engineer uses either the Mattock or the Harrier pretty much exclusively. Funny that BigBad mentions the Avenger, since I've been thinking about a playthrough using only the Avenger, Katana, and/or Predator. At least then my cutscenes will match what I'm actually carrying.

The avenger does lack a bit in the damage department, even with upgrades. The lancer is superior in every way IMO.

Reager X doesn't weigh too much. i had somewhere around +180% with both the reager and lancer (with no weighted mods or ULM's).

The Assault Tuna (aka Avenger) is just bad on any class.

Some decent lightweight weapons:

Assault Rifles - Mattock, Phaeston
Sniper Rifles - Matis, Viper
SMGs - Tempest
Shotguns - Eviscerator, Disciple
Pistols - Talon, Phalanx

None of them may take the title of "Best in class" but if you want some variety they'll do the job. And most of them are acquired before the end of Tuchanka.

Also, 200% recharge speed is over-rated. There's very little difference between 150% and 200% so don't think you HAVE to have it. Don't be afraid to play with the system a bit, and remember that you can get some significant CD bonuses from the research terminal and the armor you wear.

It's ok on a caster if you're not playing Insanity. I did at least one run with it as my only weapon. Wouldn't rely on it for a weapons class, though.

You could probably do more damage with it if it was a real tuna and you threw it at the enemy.

I am finding it very very hard to leave the Suppressor behind.  I love everything about this gun, especially the silencer sound.  I should probably figure out a sniper rifle to carry for a long range option, to be fully balanced.

Good to know.  On my Sentinel I'm keeping Tech Armor active with the level 6 cooldown bonus, and I wear the Cerberus Spirit armor.  Am ok at 150%?  120%?  How high can I push it and still be effective being power centric?  With travel time for power attacks, I don't seem to really notice cooldowns until they get to be over 3 seconds.

I'm running the Mattock on my AdeptShep with no CD issues at all.

Yeah, especially if frozen.

With Incendiary Explosive Burst it wouldn't be completely bad... but most casters would have to take James for that, which isn't desireable to me, unless you were a caster Vanguard in which case you already have it.

Huh. I've had pretty good results with the Avenger and Cryo Ammo. Of course, I play with all the guns upgraded to X, and very few things outright suck when upgraded that high.

What weapons "outright suck" when upgraded to level X?
