Is Bioware trying to alienate their female players?

Because majority of ME3 players are male and they also play as Maleshep, there are some
minority that play Femshep and many of them just play as her for lesbian romance.
From that combine with the another fact that Bioware got limited resource for ME3, it's not
surprise that they choose to go with more lesbian option for Femshep.

I think they simply decided using resources on him wasn't worth it. Fair enough too.

I'm sorry, but no. If BioWare would only take their male fans into account, then we probably wouldn't have ever seen a Femshep at all and there would be no male LI in the game.
BioWare knows they have female fans and they're trying their best to make them feel welcome (at least I feel appreciateted as a female) Yes, they screwed the straight femshep over, but I think that was a mistake and not done visciously to alienate the female player.

Reducing Garrus to 'bird like alien' isn't exactly doing the character justice here. Great character, fantastic as either a bromance or a romance, a badass in combat and one of the sexiest VAs in gaming, but unconventional in appearance is more accurate, I think

ME already is the most tolerating game in existence with the ability to play as both genders and have half of all characters lesbian/gay or bisexual. Just accept that you straight female gamers are a minority in gaming and as such, it might happen that you don't get as much options as the straight males. Deal with it.

In all seriousness, he's a bit one-note and has no real character development.
But then, most characters don't really progess, instead they make leaps to where the devs thought the players would want to see their favorites. Especially the LIs.

You keep saying this. I don't think it means what you think it means.
I romanced Jacob, and I was sad and disappointed at what was written for him in ME3. I found it outrageous and completely against a romanced Jacob's character in ME2. His father had that awful harem, and he despised him for it.
I'm not the only one who romanced Jacob either, I have several friends that did. Once you got past FemShep's cringe-worthy flirting and "the prize" I found his romance incredibly sweet and satisfying. My FemShep thought it was true love...until the writers decided otherwise in ME3.

Hey, that is totally not true! Mostly!
I'd argue that there is character development there, of a sort - from Shep's naive and impulsive squaddie to somewhat embittered vigilante and failed leader to one of the leaders of the Turians' fight against the Reapers, and more or less Shep's equal - there's a natural, believable progression there, especially since it happens over a couple of years. Unlike, say, Jacob, who goes from apparent good guy to total wanker in a matter of months. Though I appreciate that I'm looking at it through the lens of someone who likes the Garrus character
Regardless, I certainly wouldn't say that quality-wise either Kaidan or Garrus were any worse than the M/F options. And while it's true that any player who didn't like either was guaranteed out of luck in ME3, a M/F romancer could find themselves in the same situation - if Kelly, Jack, Miranda, Ash and Tali are all dead (or in the case of all except Ash, unromanced in ME2) then the options are Allers (surely no romance at all is better than that) or Liara - if you don't like Liara specifically or Asari in general then straight guys are pretty much out of luck as well, heh.

I give you credit for coming out about your jacob romance. I'll come out and say I sacrificed samara for morinth and wouldn't have it any other way. Seeing samara's citadel segment really drove home how boring she was too me. SHAME we didn't get any morinth interaction....writers deciding otherwise im sure

EDIT: A little context, I think that male players don't need to be into aliens to romance Liara or Tali because they look almost exactly like humans. Paint your girlfriend blue and get her a weird tentacle wig and she's an Asari.

Yeah, I think it was definitely a case of trying to account for too many choices/not enough time/not enough money to do them all justice. Honestly, it's why I prefer a single, stand-alone title to this trilogy. I think it's just too hard for the game makers to do the myriad of branching stories that lots of choice over several games demands. I feel it's better not to offer it in the the first place than to promise something that you ultimately can't deliver.

That's great, but you're very, very heavily in the minority. From what I've seen, the overwhelming majority of players consider a serious romance with Jacob unappealing at best and often downright comical or cringeworthy.
I'm also a lady gamer, so I'm used to living my life in the minority. Perhaps it doesn't matter to you, and maybe we aren't worth BioWare's notice, but we Jacobmancers do exist.
Jade Shepard says hi.

I haven't had the heart to finish her playthrough and may never.

Which, while it is a reason for the minimal Jacob content in ME3, is not an excuse for the ******-poor way they handled the romance.

Mostly because I find Garrus' romance extremely satisfying and well written. For me it's simply the best video game romance of all times. I'd be a hypocrit if I said that looks doesn't matter. Of course it does but only to a certain point. If you're in it for a long haul you'll need more then good looks. In Garrus case I found it a bit awkward to begin with but in time as he grew on me as a character I think it kinda fits him, gives his badass image a certain edge. Now I simply can't imagine him being a human. Wouldn't have it any other way!
Now, call me crazy but I thought most of the people love this series so much because of how it reflects on real life. Well, at least this was my reason for the mild obsession with the game. You can blame Bioware for being lazy or messy in many departments but lack of diversity when it comes to romances male or female is not one of them. I simply can't get why people can complain so much about the aspect of the game that basically made them like it in the first place.
People terminally ill die. People cheat. Drunken one night stands ending with awkward silence and horrid regret happen all the time and let's be honest, a default setting for those is "fail". Happy couples born from such events are rare. These things happen in the real world so why is it so surprising that they take place in the game? Would you really prefer that all characters were equally great, handsome and flawless? The game would be boring as hell and even then people would still complain, because then it wouldn't be realistic enough. Sure, it hurts that Thane dies, it sucks that Jacob knocked up some Cerberus hag and it sucks that James has been reduced to a one night stand but I still think it all fits with their characters. It's not like they didn't worn you. You knew Thane was dying from the first minute you met him. I knew Jacob was trouble when he said that Miranda deserved a better man, but somehow he was supposed to be good enough for Shepard? And James is exactly how most of the flirty types are. It's all for lols on their part. Seriously, if a guy needs to drink himself under the table to be able to sleep with you, it's hardly surprising that he'd rather forget about the whole thing when he wakes up in the morning
It's impossible to satisfy everyone but I think Bioware did an awesome job in romance department.
If you must insist on heterosexual options, Kaidan and Garrus are really far from that bad that you need to be offended by Bioware not adding more to the list.
Oh, and Kelly and Allers don't count. Kelly killed my fish and Allers should be shot on sight for the crimes committed against professional journalism, not let onbord the most epic ship in the history of the Gallaxy ;-) Just sayin....

I don't understand straight guys who come into topics like this to tell straight women they shouldn't feel it's unfair. Say a man and a woman go to a diner for pie and the man gets eight different varieties to choose from but the woman gets two (say, apple and cherry), then the woman complains and the man says, "Hey, what are you complaining about? Apple is good."
It doesn't really matter if you like apple, because not everyone likes apple. Some people might have killed apple or forgot to start dating cherry in the last game, and where are they now? Pieless.

Oh, I was soo pieless in ME1!
I hated both pies but it felt kind of pitiful to leave the restaurant without having one so I chose to go for apple.
That was the worst pie I ever had. Made my stomach turn upside down and then some.
Luckily found something more tastefull in the second game
