-Great snip-

I agree with everything this stands for apart from: "[snip]Well, I'm a female player but I romanced Garrus/Kaidan and they were great so I'm okay with this." Thanks for letting us know that you're willing to let discrimination slide because you were distracted by a piece of candy[/snip]". That was unnecessarily venomous.

Still, nice poster.

It isn't even just the inequality in choices that makes me ask this question. Its how the writing when youre rejected seems specifically designed to make you feel bad or lame.

Frankly, to romance James in Citadel requires Femshep to be bit creepy and really debase herself. At the party, Femshep all but asks him at the party if he's got a big enough pair of beer goggles going to get the job done. Really the arc is like a) totally invade the man's space in creepy mc creepy person mode B) get him wasted enough and take advantage of him and then c) he slinks out in the morning not wanting to mention that it ever happened.

I am not convinced that poster really shows what happens with the game, I do agree that FemShep should have had one more straight romance carry into ME3 (such as Jacob or maybe be able to hook up with Thane before the Citadel mission).  I don't consider Liara to be straight or lesbian with either character since the Asari are only one gender and with Diana Allers and Kelly Chambers I can't consider romances, for the characters I consider romanceable have more to the relationship then what those two offer.

The Liara thing is splitting hairs, albeit legit ones since technically, Liara isn't either. However, the asari are portrayed as an inherently feminine race, referred to as she, and use matriarchal-heavy terms.

Truth of the matter is, Femshep has less options, and at end game, only has four 'real' options- Garrus, Kaidan, Liara and Samantha. So if you're exclusively het, that still boils down to two. So for people like me, who preferred Thane- and to be completely honest here, I would have taken Jacob over Kaidan if I had to choose between the two- we kind of got the short end of the stick.

Don't get me wrong, Garrus is totally my bff. We're brothers to the end. But my heart lay with Thane, and not only did he die (which I was prepared for), they completely botched his charactersation. Jacob's was even worse. I liked Jacob. He was a good, solid man with his head on straight and his priorities in order. Then they made him a cheating jerk with unfortunate implications. I understand he wasn't all that popular. That's no reason to backhand his small, but fervent fanbase.

My first playthrough in the mass effect series was as a male with Liara as the LI. All my other ones have been as femshep because frankly I prefer her voice-acting and dialogue. The romances have been either none or Garrus for all my femshep playthroughs simply because I prefer that characters personality.

And I'm a male, so I'm sure my choices may be a bit out of the ordinary. The male characters have better romances mostly. And yes, female gamers need to be better catered too in the future.
