Hey guys I just reformated my computer and I am currently installing Dragon Age Origins again is there a way I can get my charecters and all my downloadable content back? Thank you very much in advance your help is very much appreciated.

Your savegames are only stored locally in the \\Documents\\Bioware folder. So if you didn't make a backup and did a complete reformat of your harddrive, then your characters are most likely gone.

I do have the files but where and how do I copy them across? Like which files? A full walk through guide will be much appreciated thank you!

your characters - no, not unless you manually saved the files with each of there names in your documents/bioware/dragon age folder, your DLC's yes simply log into the game, with your original sign up (what ever email you used on purchase) and make sure the download previously purchased content button is selected under settings.

Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age/Characters - you should have folders with each characters name if you saved your original install just copy and paste all the named folders in this location

any mods will have to be reinstalled before play, same with dlcs or the saves will have issues

As you're playing on the PC, getting your DLC back shouldn't be a problem.  Boot the game, log in and go to the "Downloadable Content" menu.  Then wait a couple of seconds while it loads your profile data and checks it against your current data.  It should all appear in either "Available Content" or "Download Progress".
Reinitialised my own PC two days ago and this proved true for me.  And the listed area for saved characters is bang on.
