Solid movie.

And yeah, the idea of an "ultimate conversation/decision with an ethereal or digital authority figure in a surreal environment" has been done many, many times before in science-fiction, as have the Asimov-like options.

I, for one, wouldn't be so annoyed by the ending if the Catalyst took the form of David Morse instead of that stupid kid.

Agreed, if they were absolutely wanting it to be a neutral party. Little bit of rewriting to explain how Avina has been "observing" galactic life on the Citadel, and boom.

Yup I've said in the past this would have been perfect. And very much in the spirit of what I loved about the ending of ME1. That something you've been seeing all along turns out to be the thing you're looking for.
