Is it wrong that the only thing I came away with from watching that was a reminder of how beautiful Jodie Foster is? I don't think so.

Ha, more evidence that the ending is generic and has been done many, many times. Weak sauce.

Solid movie.
And yeah, the idea of an "ultimate conversation/decision with an ethereal or digital authority figure in a surreal environment" has been done many, many times before in science-fiction, as have the Asimov-like options.

I, for one, wouldn't be so annoyed by the ending if the Catalyst took the form of David Morse instead of that stupid kid.

The Catalyst should have been Avina. It would have made so much sense.

Agreed, if they were absolutely wanting it to be a neutral party. Little bit of rewriting to explain how Avina has been "observing" galactic life on the Citadel, and boom.

Yup I've said in the past this would have been perfect. And very much in the spirit of what I loved about the ending of ME1. That something you've been seeing all along turns out to be the thing you're looking for.

We've had this conversation before, Jack.
The cycle continues.
