Well, tried the large shield and turret-less spec for a whirl. It was good, but I found it more map dependent (prob annoyed the hell outta the good spawn nuking Talon we had on Glacier w/ it one match- opps.. hard to find a good place for it there).

I dunno, I missed supporting myself and the team w/ the turret heals, and I was prob using the hex shield more often when it was smaller- just cause of its 'portability', since I move around a bunch even w/ the terrible move speed. There were a few times the larger shield was nice on open maps like facing down Cerb cross fire, and the offense options for it were actually better than I thought. But I may stick w/ the rank 3 HS build cause hunkering under a large shield w/ right-hand adv all match just isn't what I tend to naturally do w/ soft cover around. Geth Scanner was nice for seeing around the shield (and ofc killing thru walls), though.

Excellent post. But I do have two differences I like to voice.
1. Personal opinion I believe the other evolution for rank 6 hex shield is superior. Ur gonna use hex shield for soft cover and its already wide enough to cover an ally for devices or w.e. taking the 10% damage output option while hex shield is deployed is very very very good imo. But either could work.

2. I honestly believe that 3 points in the heal turret I far far far far better then either rank 6 option for fitness. Ur right you don't want 15% less damage for extra shields I agree. But your teammates shouldn't be that close to you for squad command ... Rank 6 for fitnes IMO is just unneccasry. Just slap a cyclonic crutch or w.e. 3 points for turret can be an absolute life savor. But that's just my play style though just throwing my point of view out there for discussion

Well, from my experience w/ pugs and Squad Command, ur lucky if even one teammate stays close to you for even 40% the match. Its fine to not want to take the 15% dmg hit, but unless ya play more organized games where teams coalesce around you and/or a chokepoint, ur better off putting those 6 points somewhere else, imo (assuming the 10% is additive, ofc).

That squad option at rank 6 also gives 30% melee boost. I tried to build and it frees the need for any other melee stuff ( gun mod, hydraulic joints, etc) and the melee did plenty of damage firbrestiring shields.

Also I actually liked the javelin with both penetration mods + warp ammo, raider with smart choke and hvb.

I spec the hex shield for full damage so you’re only loosing the 5% damage by going full health/shields and the same time you’re getting a much tankier Jugg. The squad command is a novelty because I found that squad mates very rarely use it. The radius is quiet small and you team can still be susceptible to splash damage and the Banshee AOE shockwave etc.

How so? Heavy Melee kills slowly, turret kills even slower... together do they outdamage a shotgun? I think not....


Its not meant as a primary offense. Just when you have to regen shields, the two combined will drain things quickly and both keeping shields up.

You and Zae are both starting to sway me into skipping rank 6 fitness for 3 ranks of turret. It makes sense...

I'll need another reset card or two first though... the troll store has been stingy with them lately.

You know what also regens shields effectively? Natural shield regen speed... which happens when you're standing on top of a pile of your enemies smoldering corpses... or standing behind a shield that's as big as a house.

not taking squad command

take Piranha as primary weapon + Arc Pistol as secondary

so the strategy is
Shoot turret somewhere
Light Melee > Spawn Shield > Heavy Melee > Shoot N7 Piranha > light Melee > Spawn Shield and so on
Gold Solo best record with it is 32 min

FWIW... I soloed Gold (Geth White) earlier tonight in sub 30 using my build... and I'm a horrid soloer.

I could never skip his passives....

That's the whole point of this thread... to get people to understand that killing enemies is more valuable than controlling enemies with heavy melee.

Godless_Paladin and I had this discussion a long time ago... and I argued against him, but ultimately... he was right.

A dead enemy is almost always better than a controlled enemy... with certain objective waves being the only caveat.

I don't stand on piles of enemies. I walk through them stalking more. Can't do that tucked behind an Asari bubble, whoops, hex shield.

Yes because... the Hex Shield is completely inpenetrable... neither players nor enemies can walk through it.
