I agree with Devi's suggested age range. It would be easier for me to relate to them on a personal level. Fortune willing, it might also make for interesting story dynamics. Persona 2: Eternal Punishment remains my favorite entry into that series because most of the main cast was in its mid-twenties or higher. Their personal hangups, goals, and fears didn't feel like high school wish fulfillment stuff.

I don't think DA needs a fresh out of her formative years protagonist to work.

I'd like to say age is but a number, but still.

I think I need to know a bit more about the protagonist before I decide. I mean I played the Warden quite young (and made them look quite youthful in my CC), although technically the Warden could have been of any age. However, I made Hawke a bit older, being the oldest child I thought he needed to look a bit more mature and responsible. I couldn't make him look youthful in the CC as it just didn't look right at all (I had to restart the games because of this).

If the protagonist has a bit of history behind him/her I am more likely to put them at early 30s onwards.

Old enough to not have those annoying teenager emotional issues, I want someone focused. But also not too old, we need a spot for a grizzled old badass veteran, someone like a medieval Zaeed or Canderous Ordo.

Even still, the protagonist may be a character from previous games. We don't know enough to guesstimate the age yet.

No, the protagonist isn't going to be that set.  We'll still be making our PCs, if within stricter limits than some would like.

(Or are you just confused about what a protagonist is?)

I think it should be able to be ambiguous, say from 20-something to 40-something, with the only indicator being their appearance. Harder to do if you include family and friends to be sure, but not impossible. I'd certainly like my Inquisitor to be older than my Wardens and Hawke. Perhaps in her mid 30s.

Hawke was given a set age, and the Wardens all had to be young, with the possible exception of Aeducan, who I think just had to be younger than his/her brothers. All the others are specifically referred to as being young (like by family) or it would make no sense if they were much older (like Amell/Surana).

Most protagonists tend to be young in Bioware games. Hawke was around 24 at the start of DA2, Shepard was only 29 in ME1. I think it would be cool if they let us play an older character for once. Like someone in their early 40s. A badass veteran with decades of experience. What do you think?

"Only 29"!?!? In what universe is 29 a young age??? Image IPB I dread the dayImage IPB

I think they will stick in 20-30 range. As others have said any older would require a detailed backstory. Also I think it would feel strange that all the NPCs would send you on errands when your char is older and experienced.

I like it that way, I'm old enough in rl thank youImage IPB

True. It just feels like you do Image IPB

I'm joking, but really I wouldn't describe 29/30 with "young". It's not old, but I wouldn't exactly use the word "young". I mean 30yearolds are adult people. And "young" to me are teenagers and earlytwenties college students.

lolno

There's just been speculation by several people that perhaps one of the other two games' previous, imported heroes will be the main character, if imported. If not, then perhaps a new PC. We just don't know, so we can't say for sure DAIII will have a totally new character. Even then, it may be a companion from one of our previous games. No one knows.

Around middle 20s is good. Teen is too inexperienced, and 30s+ starts to lose fappability.

How old are you? It all pretty relative. I'm 22 and that would have seemed old to me at 16. I've seen sports commentators call men in their early 30's 'kids'. This kid, or 'this young man'.

Shepard being 29 still seems young to me, especially in such a prestigious position, a famous commander and the first human spectre.

Good point! I, for one, would like to play an adult. So 30 it is. Image IPB

I'd usual prefer the character's age to be open for interpretation, that way I can create grizzled old warriors who are not 20 years old. Like in Fallout New Vegas until I got called a youngster.<_<

I voted "very young (18-22)" because I read YA and am into stories about young folks, but I can understand some wanting a change of pace!

Yep, same here.
I felt like was sort of able to interpret my character's age in DAO and DA2, and I'd prefer for it to stay that way.

Given that one of the few things we know for a fact about the game is that it will have a new protagonist, no, there hasn't been speculation about that.  Not for a long time!  You know, since they straight out said "It's not happening.  Protagonist is new."

Since this is an rpg, it would be nice if they let us determine the age of the PC.

They should just eliminate any dialog that alludes to a certain age.

That way...our character can be whatever age we want.

Now that I think about, I actually agree. It seems like the simplest and most effective choice they can make. Although, it would be nice to have family members in the game like the last two games. If that happens then they will probably have to give the PC a defined age. Still, it would be nice to finally be able to make an old character and not look older than your mother like in DA2...

So yeah, I think that not mentioning or alluding to the character's age is probably the best choice.

30 years and up for me. All the cool heroes like Indiana Jones, Han Solo, John McClane, Dirty Harry Callahan, Ellen Ripley, The Bride (Kill Bill) are all over thirty in the movies they debuted in.
